    It is so fascinating to hear about the original creator of the story and what she actually wrote as compared to how we hear the story now. And how sad that the women writers got forgotten for so long. Thank you for sharing your passion with us.

      Yes it is very sad that most them have been so long forgotten! Thank you for stopping by Marilynn!

    I loved your explanation of the English version has "will you marry me?" rather than "will you sleep with me?" I love the old fairy stories so I am in heaven watching your films. I especially love the stories when you become old enough to realise the deeper meanings, that The Beast did not have to become beautiful, as Beauty already loved him, and the same in the Perrault story of "Prince Ricky of the Tuft", Red Riding Hood isn't wearing red by chance, and as for Sleeping Beauty and the drop of blood? Well! Though of course, it does not work the other way around! As I'm sure you know in the tale of "Sir Gawain and the Loathly Lady", the lady has to become beautiful before Gawain can love her. So sad that many people cannot/will not see the beauty in these old stories

      Thank you Helen! yes these fairy tales are so much deeper and as interesting to read and enjoy as an adult. A funny thing in french also is that la Bête has 2 meaning beast and dumb ,we use the word for both, and in Madame Leprince de Beaumont 's version she focused on the fact that he had to be dumb and forget his wit and and instead be kind and generous. For little red riding hood there are a lot of different theories about the color, the most realistic is historical: children were red aprons and dresses at the timeso that the parents would see them from far but there are many other theories, thats what make them so rich and interesting ! Thank you for sharing your thoughts on the subject!

      Thank you Diana!You will see him in his costume in the next video of this series :) The hot chocolate was just the basic but high quality cocoa powder and a bit of sugar , with agood lactose free milk which Im happy to have found , since I adore hot chocolate but milk was always a problem, now I can enjoy a nice hot cocoa to prepare good dreams like Belle and enjoy this treat 18th century people adored :)) Big hugs to you, hope you are safe and cozy in your own Kingdom !!!

    How very intriguing the history of the story of The Beauty and the Beast. I never knew there were 2 writers. And how sad that they are forgotten now. I wish I could read French so I could ready the original versions. Your beast is so perfect in my eyes, I think your art is always very well thought out and lovely to behold. Hope you stay well!

    • @Merveillesenpapier

      Thank you Carol! most french would probably ignore the original writer too..., Madame Leprince de Beaumont was smart and her adaptation has hidden for a long time the real author , I guess in the 18th it wasn't seen as copyright infringement, but Madame de Villeneuve died 1year before the famous version was published....It's sad! Thank you, stay well too!

    Hello Laetitia, wow what a wonderful wealth of book knowledge you possess. I so appreciate and cherish all your sharing of it all. Hmmm, what a difference from the English to the French version. Wish I could read French...lol. I will look Madamede up and see if I can find her. Your beast is so excellent in his character, the soulful eyes speak just looking into them. The Roses are so beautiful as well. Beauty and the Beast has always been a fave of mine. I had a French DVD version once, (wish I still had it). Love your outfit and esp your dress pattern and color. I today just recieved a copy of The Devils Cloth, and love what I'm reading so far. Thanks again for sharing.

    Great video and really interesting to learn the history of Madame de Villeneuve. The Beast you have created is stunning. How different is the original Beauty and the Beast to the Disney version (which I have actually never seen as I'm not a fan of Disney).

    • @Merveillesenpapier
      @Merveillesenpapier  4 ปีที่แล้ว

      Thank you very much Katie! yes the story is pretty different,Disney always adapt and recreate their own fairy tales , and most of the famous parts and characters in the disney films even the ose as it appears in the film has never been in the fairy tale.... Thank you:)
