Thank you! And you're welcome! :)
Thank you so much for uploading this video!
As a Chinese speaker, I think we barely have the concept of “rhythm” in speaking, which makes me so confused about why it sounds kinda weird as I speak a long sentence in English, although I can pronounce every single word well…
You just showed me what the key point is, thanks so much!! I’m gonna use this method to analyze the sentences and practice~❤️
Hi Cathia - That's great to hear! I'm so glad this video helped you :)

I'm going to be very honest about your style of teaching English. It's amazingly good, not only that you aren't making fun of any foreigner way of speaking or mispronouncing words. I really appreciate you. You rock, from now on you're my favorite teacher.

The rhythm, intonation,, connected speech, and reduction are for me subjects that the non native speakers must be consider if they want to become a fluent english speaker (C1 adavanced level). Because C2 whoa, hold your horses !!!
Hi Julius - Thanks so much for your comment! I appreciate your perspective on becoming fluent in English as a non-native speaker! :)
nice
Hi! Thanks for your comment. I'm glad you liked the video! :)
You re beautuful in this video
very good way to practice. I appreciate it. Can you please recommend any tool or app to help practice rhythm?
Thank you! I don't know of any apps that are dedicated to only English rhythm, but you can use any audio sample of a native speaker talking (anything on TH-cam or Youglish.com), and listen to a short portion of it on a loop - maybe 10 seconds of speaking, and listen to it on repeat 5, 6, 9 times in a row. Once something is looped on repeat that many times, you'll start to hear the rhythm of their speech! And you can find a free metronome app to download onto your phone that can keep the beat while you practice your speech. Thanks for the question!
I hope my answer was helpful! Let me know if you have any other questions :)
in this video you said ( HELPING ) like helpn with n not with ing .
can i say Good mornn ( Good morning ) when can i say n instead ing. Thank you
I would consider the NG ➔ N as another reduction that you can use in spoken English, and yes, you can reduce "morning" to "mornin" if you want, like maybe when greeting your friends/family in the morning. However, this particular type of reduction may sound too informal when used in certain settings, like maybe in a formal business meeting. So I would recommend that you still use the NG pronunciation for the "ing" spelling in most cases.
Hope this helps!
@@SanDiegoVoiceandAccent thank you so much.

Hello! Could you use this rhythm for dialogues, news reports and films? I don't think they talk like that. And also to explain these studies.

Hi! Thanks so much for your question! It's difficult for me to give detailed answers within a comment, so the best way for me to help you is if you joined my live English class at Julie's Conversation Club (courses.sandiegovoiceandaccent.com/courses/julies-conversation-club). I could answer your question during the class! I hope to see you there :)
which one is more accurate /əz/ or /ɪz/ for plural nouns as in pages /ˈpeɪdʒəz/ , /ˈpeɪdʒɪz/ .Thank you.
Hi! I use the /ɪz/ ending for plural nouns that receive an extra syllable. :)
@@SanDiegoVoiceandAccent Great.
Hii.. How we can know which words we stress on the phrase ?
The words Who are stressed are obviosly spoken louder ?
Hi! Thank you for your question :) Stress can be difficult to explain because the speaker can decide which words to stress in a sentence depending on the message he or she is trying to convey. But, there are a few general rules regarding which words to stress and destress:
1) Reduce the vowels of function words (e.g., for, can, do, you, etc.) and destress them
2) Pick one content word as the main focus of each phrase and give it the most stress (content words are nouns, verbs, adjectives, adverbs, etc.).
3) Reduce the stress on most (or all) of the other content words in that phrase.
I hope this helped!
Ha ha, I do this activity too and it always blows their minds. I got the idea from a channel with a rabbit teaching English and it uses a similar set of examples: rabbits eat carrots. the rabbits are eating the carrots, etc. I'll definitely recommend your video to those students that can access TH-cam. Do you upload to any platforms Chinese students can access?
Hi Martin - That's awesome! This exercise can be so helpful, so feel free to recommend the video to anyone whom you think would benefit from it. As of now, the videos are only on TH-cam, but in February 2023 I'll be launching an online community called English Pro, and the videos will be there as well. Hi, san diego i really need your help. I am an IELTS aspirant. I wrote it two times. I got 6 and 5.5 band that equivalent to a B2 level in speaking and writing. How can i improve my scores to 7 in both these skills?
Un abrazo,hermosa.

Haha - nice! I hope you found it valuable! :)
Hi why do you keep the e in takeing and bakeing ??are they correct ?
Hi Khaldieh - Thanks so much for your comment and your question! I think you're asking about the spelling of "takeing" and "bakeing"? You drop the letter "e" in both words - they should be "taking" and "baking". If you have questions about the pronunciation of the words, it would be easiest if I could hear your speech and give you feedback about how you sound. I have a live English group class called Julie's Conversation Club (learn more here: courses.sandiegovoiceandaccent.com/courses/julies-conversation-club) , and during each class you can practice your English pronunciation with me! I hope to see you there :)

Hi. Thanks for the video. I have a question regarding to the content words. How do we choose content words to stress? For example, in the sentence 'I bake a good cake', I is a noun, too, then why we dont stress on it. I'm confused by the idea of stressing this word, not that word.

I is a pronoun.
@@ambermarie211 Hi Amber - Yes, I is a pronoun :) Thanks for your explanation!
This is a wonderful exercise, but I disagree with "I wanna" and "I'd like to." I stress both of these, and so their inclusion in the sentence added a full beat.
