  • FUSION 9 is here!!! I decided to make an unexpected early video demonstration of the most anticipated feature, the Camera Tracker.
    In this very basic comparison, I am demonstrating the results of Fusions new camera tracker compared to Syntheyes, using the same steps. The result is surprising!
    The footage used in this video was shot on the DJI phantom.

    Thanks for a nice comparison and fun :)
    You probably know this things, but if not I am glad to "help".... few tips based on your video:
    If you press big Auto button in Syntheyes, you get autotrack and solve. You do not need to go to solve tab and solve it again. If you press Autotrack button, the smaller one, you get only 2D track and you need to do solve with solve button on the same tab, or in the solve tab.
    Aligning with 3 point system in Syntheyes is dependent of your tracker pick. First is origin, second wide axis and third depth axis if I remember it correctly. (button is changin its name based on what you need to click). If you pick second tracker in diagonal to the first one, your scene will be rotated to align first point with second point on "x" axis. That is why Syntheyes rotated your scene in weird way.
    I am pumped for your next videos about Fusion. Good luck.

    Thanks for the comparison. It's nice to see the new Fusion camera tracker in comparison to the rock solid Syntheyes tracker. By the way the correct phrase is not "Right off the batch" but rather "Right off the bat", an old american idiom referring to baseball.

      right off the bat
      Instantly, immediately, as in I can't tell you how many right off the bat, but I can find out. This term alludes to a baseball being hit by a bat. [First half of 1900s]
      And thanks for all your tutorials

  • @Fennworld
    @Fennworld 7 ปีที่แล้ว +5

    Thank you Vito! I think Syntheyes actually does both a track and a solve when you hit "Auto", and Fusion's "track filtering" is inverted from what you'd expect in Syntheyes making erroneous point selection a little confusing. This was a great first look-thank you for getting tutorial content out before Blackmagic even has anything. And, native English speakers would say "right off the bat" but now I'm thinking of adopting "right off the batch". I like thinking of it as a reference to a batch render rather than to baseball.

    To align the ground plane and the other things you just need to select a suitable tracking point.
    Also you can set accurate dimensions by selecting a couple of tracking points, so the new world coordinates will match those int the footage.
    No need to eyeball there! ;-)

  • @ShadowMakerSdR
    @ShadowMakerSdR 7 ปีที่แล้ว +9

    Just wondering, did you know you can select points in the viewport and then have the groundplane adapt to that? Same thing for the coordinate system. Select a couple of points in a flat plane, set from selection and you're good to go. It helps to prevent sliding.

    It's long ago, but nice tutorial video. But I have a question: I had a camera track with an error of 0.4xxx. I made a little track filtering and selected "Select Tracks satifying Filters". After that I had an error of 0.6! How can I undo the obviously wrong step? Thank you!

    • @ConFusion

      Hello my friend. Press Undo. Even though it doesn't look like anything happened. If you solve again it should return to your 0.4. For faster response and better support I suggest join the Pirates discord.gg/QsUr8W

      I was inform by someone in BMD forum that the reason camera track is so slow is that Fusion take long time to pick seed frame. manualy pick seed frame will speed up the solve

    Thanks for your videos, I am new to fusion and have 8 (free version) But I am unsure if it will do what I want - I am planning to create figure animations in Zbrush and animate them in an environment with moving light and patterns. Like geometry patterns. So it would be like moving into the patterns and shapes and so on and they would move around etc.. I have not seen these kind of things in fusion and most people seem to use after effects - Id like to not use the Adobe CC if I can get away with it!

  • @johnpauldocherty9182
    @johnpauldocherty9182 7 ปีที่แล้ว

    Thanks for the entertaining introduction. A couple of questions, though - although you mention lens distortion correction you don't really clarify how it is done in Fusion, or if in fact you undistorted your footage before tracking. In my experience this is pretty important step in any 3D track. Also, I don't understand why you would manually line up the ground plane by eye in 3D space - surely you could use the point cloud to give you an accurate location and height and just match that? That's what I would do with a syntheyes track - is there a reason you can't do this in Fusion?

    • @ConFusion
      @ConFusion  7 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      John Paul Docherty hey John. you are right. as i mentioned, the lens distortion is so important that i want to do another propper tutorial. also, since Fusions tracker is new and i dint have experience with it, i wanted to see what result i can get right of the batch! the ground plane was due to my lack of experience with the Fusion tracker. someone commented that you can automatically align by the click of a button. i tried it and it worked perfectly. Again, by no means was this meant to be a " i know everything about the tracker" video. you can compare it to the stupid unboxing videos :) hehe

  • @AlenMecan
    @AlenMecan 6 ปีที่แล้ว +1

    Great video, but you are complaining about the amount of trackers in Fusion, and your treshold is really low. I think I know what bothers you :) it is the processing time. These settings that you ignore are important - I know not everyone has huge workstations and you DO get great results with most things in auto, I guess it just depends on how important the scene is for you versus the time you have to turn it.

      M Khan cant say it, but Nukes tracker can create geometry. it is probably not fair to compare as Nukes tracker simply had more development time.

    Nice demo,A couple of questions I was wondering what your system specs were and as I am just getting into fusion is it very complex to setup the shadows and reflections for the robot?I use Lightwave 3d and it has a node you just apply to your ground plane called shadow catcher that is mostly automatic but has tweaked for reflectivity and such.
    Thank you

    • @ConFusion
      @ConFusion  7 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      Hey Michael, I used the Alienware 17. It is getting old but is still doing a good job. My Ryzen sytem is double the speed. I hope I will get the time to do that speed comparison between those machines. The shadow and reflection setup is super easy! In fact the reflections are not done using an inverted camera like many techys recommend. I will do a video on that too!

    Bist Du schon dazu gekommen den CameraTracker etwas mehr zu nutzen? Die Szene war ja zB recht simpel, wäre spannend zu hören wie er sich bei komplexen Shots (wo man auch mal was maskieren muss) schlägt. Da ist dann ja auch das Setup deutlich wichtiger, ich meine die Brennweite zB bringt einem ja überhaupt nichts wenn das Filmback (in diesem Fall die Ursa) Quatsch ist, usw :)
    Beste Grüße aus Berlin,
    Lucas

    • @ConFusion
      @ConFusion  6 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      hey Lucas, ja der Tracker in Fusion erwartet präzise Camera-Informationen ( mit der footage von der Drone isses ein Ratespiel ). Wenn ich mit der URSA aufnehme, ist der track auf anhieb nahezu perfekt! Wenn ich mit meinen angefangen Serien fertig bin, widme ich 100% CG integration.

    • @LucasPfaff
      @LucasPfaff 6 ปีที่แล้ว

      Alles klar, gut zu hören. Ich überlege mir privat einen Fusion Dongle anzuschaffen, eigentlich nur für den Fall dass ich mal für Spezialanwendungen was daraus brauche. Ich arbeite eigentlich im Nuke, der CameraTracker ist ja aber gerne mal etwas daneben... :) CG mache ich jetzt gar nicht, aber grundlegend einen soliden Track (und die paar anderen Dinge die der Fusion für mich besser kann) kann man sich ja auch was wert sein lassen :) für reine Tracking-Software bin ich privat nicht ausreichend motiviert, und für die Firma ist es nicht so sexy.
      LG,
      Lucas

      @LucasPfaff 6 ปีที่แล้ว

      Ah und wo wir bei sind: eine DJI Spark war das? Weil die Daten listet DJI ja ganz ordentlich auf, Brennweite liegt bei 25mm (ergibt ja Sinn dass es in diesem Beispiel beim deutlich größeren Ursa-Sensor 9mm als Schätzwert ausgegeben wurde). Nur den Sensor geben sie wieder so blöd mit Diagonale an, da es ein 4:3 Sensor ist muss man halt a wenig rechnen, na ja :) wenn man aber Wolfram Alpha und meiner Mathematik vertrauen will, ist der Sensor knapp 8,83x6,62mm groß.

    Lo trovo deludente.Quanto davinci è curato e sempre sorprendente, tanto fusion è paralizzato da almeno 4 anni.Soprattutto se sul tuo sito dichiari "il miglior software di vfx e animazione del mondo".Lasciamo perdere le evidenti critiche che si possono muovere alla velocità del software, ma perché introduci nuove funzionalità senza nemmeno preparare un video esplicativo o un tutorial su internet?Per tutti gli altri software presentati al siggraph succede, e la stessa blackmagic lo ha fatto per davinci.Probabilmente non son convinti nemmeno loro di quello che fanno...

      There's a lot out there on the eyeon / Nuke history but short story after Apple bought Shake people had to find a new compositor. Nuke and Fusion were out there but Nuke was vastly more skilled at marketing and more "Shake-like," hence its adoption rate skyrocketed. And it was really good. Eyeon was also solid but it had atrocious marketing for years and a poor UI, which you can still see in places (connnecting nodes in Fusion is a pain, etc) so w/o the dev resources to keep up, it fell behind. Ironically, Nuke is now quite bloated and getting long in the tooth in some key areas (scanline renderer, etc) so the competition may even out again.
