Very good vid, informative and entertaining, nice air filter mod. Have subscribed. I've never owned a Bantam, always liked them though, I started on Tiger Cubs in the 60's, passed my test on my mate's D14 though, it was brand new, I thought it would impress the examiner more than my ratty Cub! anyway, the screws and fasteners in those days were Cadmium plated, but that's been outlawed now, bright zinc is close enough....cheers, Dave
Thanks Dave and welcome aboard, thanks for sharing your memories, always interesting to hear how these vehicles were used when they were everyday transport.
Nice walk on part from your brother MrT!. Also good tribute to the late Ian Lavender the last of A platoon. Excellent fettling too. Thank you for posting.
I had a D14-4. some years ago. I padded the flywheels. Ported the chambers & fitted a George tod head. A 376 monoblock carb. I made a expansion chamber exhaust. The bike was quite fast but ended up snapping the crankshaft. After that i fitted a Villiers twin 2T 250 engine & it ran great for over a year. Thanks for sharing Mr Twed. Steve.
It sure was. I got a few admiring comments with that bike. Brakes coped well too, as did the suspension. I used to have quite a few 2T & 4T engine back then. I wish i still had them. @@TweedsGarage
I have been wondering what happened to the Bantam project......Yes love your air box mod Mr Tweed....very very neat. Great to see another Bantam vid from you Sir.
Mz made basically exactly the same air filter setup as your conversion and having owned several I have never encountered any issues with oil contamination. The smaller mz's are basically metric bantams anyway. Edit, actually bantams are imperial mz's given dkw designed the original engine and they were metric.
It really is excellent having the equipment to make just about anything. It fills you with warmth, joy and good feelings. Then the day comes where you need unobtanium screws. And you know you want them. And you know you can make them. The first one is interesting.........................and so you grit your teeth and go at it. And later on, after it's done, you declare it was fun. And it was. Sort of. Certainly an achievement. Well done sir!
It's true - running a process can actually be very rewarding and soothing. It's time at the lathe - and you know that YOU MADE THOSE PARTS!!!! Making things is so cool.
Looking forward to your plating attempt, please show us even if it doesn't give the desired results, I'm about to attempt plating my self, oh and you have a great back side for camera, thanks for the education and entertainment.
If you don’t have access to a mill an old engineering trick is two fine tooth hacksaw blades together in a hacksaw and cut your slots that way ( a bit tedious I'll grant you )
Oh, Mr Tweedy, star of stage, screen and television… brilliant air filter work, nice video, good looking screws! I think I have a set of Bantam side-case allen bolts somewhere deep in my sock drawer (don’t ask!). Are you coming back up to Cheshire this summer? Les
sorry Mr tweed to question your wisdom, but to fanny arround with an air box, when my dad rode endless miles to and from work on his bantam over many years with a hit and miss steel mesh air filter that doubled as the choke ! paper fiiters are a waste of money here. a two stroke engine chucks out 65 % of its fuel and air intake. so lets just let it breathe.
That's fine question away 😁 any old excuse to fire up the lathe and come up with a solution is all part of the fun.....mind you the old filter wasn't doing anything and I've never seen such a worn set of piston rings.
Very nice airshow! If you are going to fly the jets you better bring your wallet... way out of my reach. My only complaint with this episode is I didn't see you beat anything relentlessly with a big hammer.. How are people going to learn? Cheers from the shed
yes its a very expensive carrier bag to bring home when you get it wrong and fear not, the hammer beating episode is the crank assembly saga is coming soon.
Would not use silicone inside the motor on stuffer plates.....petrol will soon have that off and may loove the plates loos. Petrol kills silicone in no time.....turns it to goo. Would have thought.....main air gap taken up by just the plates sitting on there mating faces.....yes a tiny bit of air may leak.....but not volumes. I just left mine out on my B175.....would like to try with and with out.....but goes fine with out....and the cant fail if not there. I just used alan bolts for my cases....chromed.....I think?....but look great.....easy to get out when needed. Amazing models about these days.....that F16 was stunning.
No, sir, we do not like your adaption! Your adaptation, however is a perfectly elegant, non invasive solution to an otherwise insuperable problem. Though you only need an air filter for two months a year in this sog forsaken country. Dust? i dream of dust...(I've been cultivating anybody I can find called Noah just in case)... Onward and upward! Brilliant, sir, as always. A less on for we more ons...👍
Yes I think you'd be wise to stock up on timber Bill, there's been so much rain that the drive and the vehicles on it are covered in moss and they are used regularly !!!!!
You need to go back and restudy your Allo Allo before attempting Ze German accent again. Or better yet, Dr Stranglove! I think I will need to split the crank on my Velocette so that is most useful to see. And jet engines you say? I am trying not to get distracted from my Riley (don't mention the Coventry Climax Randahl!) but I might have a little jet project in the works. Nothing flyable but it should make the right noises!

Ah that was my second cousin Heinrich Von Tweed.....a prickly fellow

my pleasure Steve, a Villiers 2T 250 Bantam sounds interesting....

Very nice, coming right along. Cheers.
thanks Crusher
What a brilliant mod for the airfilter problem , make it look stock for all the rivet counter, Hat of to you Sir
Thanks Andrew, turned out not too shabby
Lovely work, Allan. Many thanks for the video.
Cheers, Peter.
Glad you enjoyed it Peter
Great video as usual. They don't like it up them you know. May see you at Popham this year. Cheers.
Cheers Terry, I do try and get to the autojumble/car show, bike show and fly in weekend.
I have been wondering what happened to the Bantam project......Yes love your air box mod Mr Tweed....very very neat.
Great to see another Bantam vid from you Sir.
yes its all still going on and being documented on video, it just depends on workload when I get time to edit them and get them out. Thanks

That's handy to know, I know MZ cranks have been used in Bantams ( they can't be any worse )

once you work out the work process and get into it the time just flys by and like you say Stuart a sense of achievement when the job is done.
It's true - running a process can actually be very rewarding and soothing. It's time at the lathe - and you know that YOU MADE THOSE PARTS!!!! Making things is so cool.
Excellent, the air filter element conversion is really good, and I am sure will be taken up by other Bantam owners . Stay safe! Chris B.
Thanks Chris, hope all is well over the Channel
@@TweedsGarage Very nice thank you Allan, we were up to 25 degs today, much better than the rain we have been getting. Chris B.
Very good Allan, most enjoyable!

Good to see it coming along Tweedy. Best wishes, Dean.
Thanks 👍 Dean
Mr Tweeds air filter solution better than the original! XD
we shall see :-)
Good show Allan, well done that man.
Thank you Sir.
Always a pleasure, never a chore! 👍
Thanks George, glad you enjoy them
A good video
Glad you enjoyed it Colin 👍
Great show Allan, cheers mate...
my pleasure Allen
I'm going to have to figure out how to slot those screws coming off my lathe too.

A little bit overdue for my liking 😉... but well worth the wait. Extremely entertaining as usual!
better late than never :-)
most definitely !@@TweedsGarage
Looking forward to more of the bantam and Jenkins!😂

thanks Les, well I haven't had the call yet for a second season so don't know yet.
Hahahaha nuclear bomb, l do love your sense of humour just as much as your engineering skills 👍
Glad you enjoyed it Mark
You can get anything in NewZealand apart from a good cup a tea
very true, its all bloody Liptons over there.

well wasnt the orginal a paper based filter it looks like it to me
Its a fine woven material sandwiched between a fine mesh a bit like K & N air filters

was that a subconscious joke early on ?? An air filter going "cheap" for a Bantam 😂
I´m going to say yes ;-)
Do tell Mr Tweed did you go to a grammar school
nah.....run of the mill comprehensive mate :-)

German?????......that was my best Belgian accent!!!!!!!!
In the later part of this video I see that the RAF have gone down a few scale sizes to cope with govt underfunding 😂......that'll confuse the Ruskies.
shhhhh keep it under your hat.......
I don't like all this hi-tech stuff. My first bike was a D1. Perfectly adequate.
With all that screwing action Mr Tweed you might fall foul of the TH-cam police. 😯
one has to be careful...
@@TweedsGarage Mr Tweed did you know there is another channel Tweedy Pubs is this a family member. He's very good. as are you.,.of course.
