i usually take to Kubelik's brisker tempos but the first mvt does seem hurried to my ears. Had i imprinted on this version as a teenager i might well feel different!
Nobody will ever know what the great composers really meant - it's just a subjective thing. Barbirolli took this symphony at about half this speed but he would have been every bit as convinced as Kubelik that his way was the right one.
