Eine Interpretation, die Beethoven sicherlich gefallen hätte: Die Tempi- und Dynamikschwankungen, die fast schon unheimliche Durchsichtigkeit und Klarheit und nicht zuletzt die Verdoppelung der Piccoloflöte zeugen von Fricsays tiefem Verständnis für dieses Werk. Fricsays früher Tod war ein großer Verlust für die Musik.

Un principio, en todo arte, dice que "para impresionar o conmover, se necesita ser comprendido. Y para ser comprendido, se necesita ser claro". Resulta insuperable esta version de la 9a sinfonia, por su claridad, acentuación, tiempo y discurso macizo, coherente. Una enorme virtud del maestro Ferenc Fricsay, es que, en 1958 imperaba en el mundo, y por largo tiempo después, el peso de Arturo Toscanini. Lo suyo era como reglamentario. Pero el gran maestro húngaro desarrolló su idea, su concepción de la 9a. Y hoy, 66 años después, nos parece nueva, siempre moderna, inigualable. Lograda, por supuesto, con una monumental orquesta. Muchas bendiciones. Desde Chile 🇨🇱.

Nobody will ever know what the great composers really meant - it's just a subjective thing. Barbirolli took this symphony at about half this speed but he would have been every bit as convinced as Kubelik that his way was the right one.

i usually take to Kubelik's brisker tempos but the first mvt does seem hurried to my ears. Had i imprinted on this version as a teenager i might well feel different!

Superb Wingassen. He'd be even a better Erik, though ( the best possible Erik ) in 1955, with Knappertsbusch.

On l’appelle la Symphonie inachevée alors que pour moi elle me semble parfaitement achevée. Je souhaite le bonheur le plus parfait qu’il puisse exister à Ludwig et je crois qu’il l’a trouvé. En écoutant dans sa tête en partageant tout son amour qu’il a occulté en nous par sa musique, je crois que c’est le plus grand bonheur q’on puisse lui apporter.

THIS is a Marvel! 1959 recording?!!! Jesus! Not only is Dorati's interpretation resplendent - full of detail, and nuance...the Recording is full spectrum, opaque, and yet unfailingly crisp and precise. This opened up the work for me in ways others have not. Bernstein...meh..., and Boulez? Muthafucker buried it in snail snot!

One of my favorite works for orchestra. This version was rated highly by Penguin Guide to classical CD's and I had to listen. It is excellent! Thanks for posting! I will have to get a copy for my personal collection.

La lectura de Fricsay es suya propia y no es mezcla de ninguna interpretación y mucho menos de músicos como Toscanini o, Szell que no están a su altura. Esta ejecución esta a la altura de las de Walter, Furtwaengler, Klemperer, Bohm, Celibidache por el rigor, la claridad, la energia, la coherncia; se aprecian tods los detalles, la afinacion perfecta, la tensión interna del sonido y de los contrastes y además Fricsay no se precipita en los finales,, es excepcional cómo marca los silencios. Todo en en él es la señal del gran director que fue, malogrado por una muerte temprana. Pero con nostros queda su música y su ejemplo. Gracias.

Not only is this a fantastic piece played by some really talented people, but this is a brillianlly recorded piece. A serious marvel considering that it was done in 1959. Likely 3 microphones across the front of the stage. I believe it's a Mercury record. Yeah, there's a bit of tape hiss, but the stereo field and dynamics are nice and wide. Beautiful presence, deep low end, clear midrange. And the edits are astounding considering they were done with a razor blade. Can hardly do them better with a computer. thanks for posting this!

Je voudrai dire que je partage entièrement le commentaire de Mr Jose Asensio. Il y a quelque chose de terrible, et de fascinant dans ce passage central du premier mouvement. Quelque chose d'indescriptible qui nous renvoie au destin , à la violence, aux forces négatives de la vie. impression qu'on retrouve dans les dernières mesures, sorte de marche funèbre souterraine qui, loin d'apporter un quelconque apaisement, renforce le caractère énigmatique et terrible de tout ce mouvement qui, à ma connaissance, n'a d'ailleurs pas d'équivalent dans la production de Beethoven.

Why Oh Why has it taken us over 60 years to realise this is the supreme rendition of the LvB 9.

Un phrasé exceptionnel, chaque pupitre est identifiable, le tempo est vraiment très serein au regard d'autres tempos trop rapides ou trop lents, la prise de son est clinique, la remastérisation est une joaillerie ! Je suis sous le charme !

There are many fine Mahler recordings. For me, this is the only one I need.
