Guys, your previous experiences building your rigs is paying off brilliantly. Ange is such a great helper. She is intuitive, strong and a joy to listen to as she calls out the moves. Little Man pushing his car with Mom on it, priceless 😂. Stay safe Lou
Thank you so much Lou for another nice and supportive comment! We really appreciate reading them :) Hope you enjoy next week's episode, the reveal is going to be epic!
Regarding the cabeling... It is very important that you have solid connections in the end of the cables. Large gauge cables don't mean much if your connectors are bad. The connections need to be crimped on to the cables and it doesn't hurt if they are soldered too. The screw-crimp connections you can buy at the gas station are not solid enough and they will start to loose contact as soon as they get a little corroded. Having the cables made for you is the way to go, unless you want to invest in a really expensive crimping tool. You can also get pre-made cables in different lengths, and even if it is not optimal, it is better than having the perfect length cable with a badly crimped connector. Great work as always!
If you want to cut aluminium use a small skill saw with an aluminium negative rake blade. Aluminium is to gummy when cutting with grinder or jigsaw and if you want to clean the edge up just use an electric wood planer with hardened tip blades. There is a lubricant you can get for the saw blade to help stop it jamming.
To see the Tgb 13 followed by the Bundutop and at the end the playground in this garage , shows that this is for sure a family thing 💯👏👏👏 Looks good all the way from the Westernharbour in Malmö 😁
Ahh epic time guys, the Bundutop is an excellent addition. And your pronunciation is super close Chris - it’s “boendoe top” rather than your “bundoe top” 👍 So exciting, getting so close now
Use methylated spirits aka denatured spirits or rubbing Alcohol to lubricate milling or saw blades just dip them in every minute or so it stops ally from melting to the blades a ally fabricator welder told me and showed me it works a treat and fairly cheap as well
for the bedding, make a collapsible box (that compresses and un-compresses the bedding ) out of the t-slot for the base, fabric for the sides and plywood for the foot-board and head board. it should slide over 2 of the memory foam pieces and only other issue would be the pillows.
Positive rake circular saw blades, with teeth facing forwards, are not as safe for cutting aluminium as a negative rake toothed blade. I learnt the hard way😳 I got a massive kick back cutting 6mm aluminium plate, threw the plate across the workshop, bent the saw fences, stuffed the saw blade and destroyed other hardware on the compound mitre saw 😵💫🇦🇺
You might need to weather proof your tent for all season protection, especially when you go to South America and USA where there are some places where it is extremely cold like Patagonia and Alaska.
@@TheOutFit Hi Guys, i think he is refering to insulation rather than waterproofing. It could get quite uncomfortable in a roof tent in colder climates depending where you are planning on going. Love the content your truck is looking great!
I build the roof rack on my Defender with exactly the same parts. Love those polish brackets. It looks great, works and is so much cheaper than buying a finished roof rack. 👍
Great content as usual. Re lifting the windscreen. I would be concerned of raising the glass and the additional wind force pushing the windscreen upward.
Having had a VW Kombi with Safari windows, they use a wing nut with a flat channel bar, this allows you to crack it open a couple of inches or fully open. An important thing when driving as they can't bounce out of a latch. They make kits for all VWs so the weight of the glass has been hippy tested. We made a bug screening using the wire from a collapsible laundry basket so you twist it into a figure 8 and fits into a pouch behind the seat. It's sewn into a squircle with magnets that hold it in place. We made another set of black out curtain fabric for the cab, these were useful as it kept the sunlight out and prying eyes. If you keep a squircle shape you can leave the curtains corners open on a hot night, but still have privacy. Although we had strip magnets in the edges, Office magnets are the key to customising it, as the wire holds the shape and having an extra couple of cm overlap seals it. Don't use suction cups like they have on infant sun shades as it messes up your glass each time. 😋
Weiter so, Chris und Ange 🙂 In the 60s, there were stories in the 'Mickey Mouse' magazines with 'Gyro Gearloose' and his 'Little Helper'. The phrase "You can't outsmart an engineer" kept coming up. Too bad I don't know how to translate that into English without losing the joke. Rock on, Chris and Ange 🙂
In cutting the roof from the top, access through the hatch would have been ideal. Make a first cut across laterally to the side then down either side to the first roof support, then cut across the width; then repeat on the other side of that first support until you get to the rear. Even if you were generous in not making the cut to the full length it would be easy enough to finish off. Doing it that way, smaller sections means easier handling in terms of getting it off the top of the truck. Need to buy (or hire/borrow) one of those aluminium adjustable steps, much better than standing on a chair, even one that looks sturdy enough to take your weight and whatever it is you're lifting.
MaxxAir has a product called MAxxDome and MaxxDome plus, it needs only 6 inches, you could install those either on the side of the TGB near where the stove is in kitchen or on the roof, you could also install a couple of them on the roof near where oakley’s bed is and one near the stove on the side of the TGP, it is very stealthy.
@@TheOutFit Well, if you have any amount of experience with driving forklifts then all you need is a few hours of practical driving and to pass the theoretical exam to get your certificate :D But i promise i won't tell on you ;)
Great job. I think it would have been easier to cut the roof out from outside, nice flat surface and gravity assisting you. Also haven’t used those polish brackets by self but have used others, from experience getting a bit of rubber tube to put on the bracket where it contacts the gutter will save any scratches/ rust with any movement of the bars.
Cutoff wheels don't work so well with aluminium. The alu melts and fuses to the disc, clogging up the abrasive surface. Jigsaw or sabre saw with the right kind of saw blade works best in my opinion. For cutting profiles, a mitre saw works well, but I wouldn't try a circular saw free-hand.
if you put cheap acoustic panels in your garage it will not ECHO i would do this if i was recording all the time in there - easier for my audience to listen 😉
Awesome video ! Doing this as young parents is really hard and glad you are making it work. Wish I had listened to the others about the roof rack brackets as I ended up using Yakima roof towers and bars. Not as strong as you are using and not as easy to mount. So the Anderson power item ?
