So fun as a swede that was a conscript and used these vehicles to see them finally become popular outside of sweden, they are really great off roaders and pretty reliable for what they are. Keep the content coming!
Mixed feelings when i watched this when i slept in, ate in, froze in and lived in that vehicle many times while doing my army service back in the times. Good luck to you. 😄👍
Sweet! That bring back some memories. I converted a c303 , T11, into a mobile home/adventure vehicle in the 90s. Took it through north america, canada, alaska some 40000++ km adventure trip. Kept the original volvo B30 engine, so lots of lead additives was used. It had a PTO winch. Replaced the radiator for a bigger one. Mounted a 230liter extra gas tank to get some decent range. 😅 the thing had really shitty gas mileage.😂
My truck ❤ for a year when I was in the army. You will be amazed what this car can do. Lock all diffs and if that dont work, add chains on the tires and It's unstopable. I had the ambulance version. Only difference is a higher top.
We towed a tank once. The tank was stuck in a swamp. We arrived, gave them our winch cable and tied a chain from a tree to the back of our tgb13 ♥️. With our help they crawled up onto dry land.
Great to see you back! Can I make a suggestion... Turn the Volvo around and keep it in the front of the shop, do projects at the back half... Easy to roll it out if needed in the future!
Im not sure what it is but i find your videos so watchable! Thank you for the entertainment and loving the family aspect now - its cool to watch you "grow" over the years and feel like i nearly know you after a few year of following. Keep up the good work you three!
What a fantastic machine .Chris you have your work cut out for you ,but after the mog build you will breeze this in .The van also a fantastic pick up .I bet you are really feeling the cold .Crank up the diesel heater. Also Ange i hope you were spoilt for your birthday as well.stay warm stay safe .really looking forward to this new build and adventure
Chris is going to be a busy man that's for sure but he's already accomplished a lot this past week, I'm so proud of him! Thank you as always for your support David and we look forward to sharing more with you :) Hope all is well for you, send us some sunshine from WA!
Congratulations on the new purchase and the next chapter for you guys, very exciting and can't wait to watch this build series unfold. Quick Word of advice on those drum brakes chris mate, should really spend the money on having them machined rather than hit with a sander or wire wheel. You do run the risk of brake shudder consequently as the surface needs to be smooth as when making contact with the pad
You very lucky mate... Iam from Malaysia. Our army using it circa 1970-1990. After their service are terminate, not many can being seen on the road now days.. Most of them being scrap and the axle were the most valuable item to 4x4 extreme enthusiasm.
Hello Chris and Ange! So excited for you! Can't wait for the build, you have a big job ahead. Glad you could purchase the Rv as your temporary home and little Oakley seemed to enjoy the play box! Stay safe and warm ❤❤❤
Awesome guys - what a set up and I can’t imagine what a beast it will be with a more modern (I expect??) driveline swap. Not sure if it’s an old wives tail but I’ve always been told to keep batteries off/isolated from concrete floors for longevity (a bit of pallet will do).
Thank you so much Shane for watching and for subscribing to the channel, it means a lot! (Writing this comment on the car park of Biltema because we forgot it opens at 9am on Saturdays ahah)
Really enjoyed this video. Exciting times. Looking forward to seeing your progress. Chris’s smile and enthusiasm is wonderful. Ange will be very busy too. Best of luck.
Just had a thought , look for second hand shop you might be able to some snowmobile or ski suits .Something like this would be a game changer in the battle against the cold . On that older camper please put a carbon monoxide/ gas detector in there and if it has a gas fridge don’t use it . Find a second hand electric fridge to put in there . The gas ones have a bad habit of catching fire .
Awesome to see your progressing folks.. onwards and upwards. Things will fall into place after the initial learning process, no doubt you both have the skills. Really keen to follow along with your progress. 👍
Fantastic to see you guys back, looking forward to the build and your travels in Europe. Hope your Birthday was good Angie. The cold must be driving you both crazy
Good to see you made it safely, summer should be on it's way by now,the coldest i have been was in Magdeberg,East Germany,a couple of months before Winter,it was bitterly cold.
Looking forward to the build. My heart skipped a beat when I saw the Brit part box. You already found out the quality issue. Oh well. Its a huge commitment your making for this build and travel in the future. This will surely grow your channel. Good luck.
Good to see you guys getting going with the new project. Looks like a good vehicle. One point o note, Chris please get yourself a decent pir of assembly gloves to wear when working - help save your hands. Granberg is a Scandanavian brand with a wide range of suitable gloves.
That wide fuel filler should allow you to rest the neck of the jerry-can on the filler - let it take the weight. Similar to older Landrovers. Best luck with the new project and future travels. Chris.
So exciting! I am also picking up my C303 in a week or so! I am keeping it pretty much stock and will be trying to use the factory Streachers to sleep on. Not living in mine but will do fun trips. Cheers!
Please get earprotection for little one as the space echo and noise is loud for him even when he’s playing upstairs. Love the new build and welcome in Europe
Massive job getting the truck sorted .. if its anything like the mog will be brilliant .. look forward to seeing its progression and your future adventures ...
Thanks a lot Thomas! Once we are properly settled in, we'll go for a little explore around and film it. Chris has been working non stop but he needs a day off :)
Nice workshop! The Cummins 2.8 diesel seems to be a popular swap for these vehicles. The temperature is probably not helping you when it comes to removing those seals. Have you tried heating the brake housing a bit so that it expands and releases the seals? All the best for the build!
I got to say: pretty darn impressed Chris. I had to pull a hub on mine, because the seal at the rear gave up and started leaking. Now I had a workshop manual, be it in Russian, which was a great help. Without it, it would have been pretty challenging. I remember being so scared to miss align anything and forget the exact position to refit. Ended up marking anything 🙄 I did have to lock the diff lock before I pulled the axle out of the planetaire gear the manual told me. Pretty much a deja vu for the rest: either banging your head against the wall or en route to the shop to buy a tool you don’t have 😂👍👍👍👍👍
This is going to be a bloody great project 👍👍👍👍. And little lady, Be careful carrying around heavy stuff like batteries 💪 I’ll be keeping an eye on this project 👀. Thanks for sharing guys. And do let the little bloke get he’s hands dirty he needs learn 🤗
Chris try putting cardboard sheets down where your working, easy to kneel on and insulate the cold floor from you. Great to see you both on the air again.
This Bjorn guy seems like an awesome fella. Super excited to follow along on this new build. Love how passionate you both are taking on these endeavours and doing it your own way.
What an amazing project!! So nice to see you guys in Europe. 🤩 About the weather. I moved to Finland (please visit it) 3 years ago, and soon the spring starts! This will change everything. 😉☀️🌲🌳🏕️
Hold on, spring is around the corner! 😉 If you decide to visit Finland, definitely go to Nuuksio National park, Turku archipelago, Tampere, Koli National Park and if possible -> Finnish Lapland!! Hey, just got this video recommended while making dinner! TGB13 is really cool, congrats! My first truck was a TGB30. And now I’ve just converted a VW T4 from 4x4 to 6x4, but it’s not inspected/approved just yet. Only bought it in January. If I’m done before you are, I’ll drive down to Malmö and say hello with it 😎
Great to see you guys immersing yourselves into another project, but gee you really like to challenge yourself 😊❤. Loved your videos when you were in Auss, now looking forward to your journey on the other side of the planet . Take care keep safe and enjoy …
Dang that’s be so cool , that’s one thing me and my 10 yr old talks about is to just go exploring full time bc he’s home schooled . It would definitely be the greatest experience to see awesome things with the ones you live only a daily, weekly, monthly and yearly timeline. Keep up the great work , this is my first video of watching y’all so I subscribed to enjoy the journey y’all have ahead.
Welcome to Europe. I have reached that age when I have invested in a rattle gun for christmas before I did my Defender head gasket ( not for the torque tightening ) more for the undoing and doing to a point. Looking good. Screwfix, Mmachine Mart and tool station good for tools in UK not sure if in Europe. Vevor also seem to be up and coming have had some bits off them . Expawers may be worth contacting as they are in process of converting a van but in Spain, would think you will have seen them on you tube. All the best, should start warming up from now on ( just thought another suggestion Eva Zu Beck vids currently Sweden and Arctic circle). No doubt you will have a lot of other suggestions made. You have probably already found Lidl / Aldi etc. People laugh at some of my parkside tool purchases but if you only want to do it once they are usually reasonably priced tools and I have generally found them better than single use and live in my tool kit. Heavier more often used stuff I have gone to Machine mart where spares can be purchased ( for example with welders and pressure washers ).My first landy was a 2a diesel short wheel base. when you picked that cylinder up I thought that looks familiar. still have a leafy trialler but havent used it for four years. was going to sort it last year but life got in the way try again this year. Cant complain had a good 20 plus years of competing at trials with it to date. If somebody wants something to do while the wheels off , whizzy wheel wire brush and brush / aerosol paint the wheels while waiting to go back on. God I am full of good ideas must gget back on with my own motors. Hardest part getting off the settee (sofa) Ha ha all the best. Last add on the camper might relate to Talbot (for British market at time, may be of use). At least there isnt to many electronics about just lighting and charging if Lucas somebody else can relay those tales.
Super projet !! Il est magnifique et j’ai hâte de voir la suite. Pour le moteur je pense au 6 cylindres 2,5 litres diesel avec turbo. Bon courage à vous 3 À très vite Guilhem
Haha I’ve just found your channel and paddocks is in my home town, looking forward to watching all this process, personally I’d have just rebuilt the brakes to get it through the inspection process then stripped the vehicle to clean and replace everything? Good luck
Hi guys don't make brake lines from copper ,copper work hardens and can crack ,not legal in Australia i believe. Warm the wheel slave cylinder then the steel brake fitting should screw out. I hope you can achieve this over haul it is very ambitious with the amount gear you have and experience you have on this type of vehicle. Good luck guys
excellent engin adopté par de nombreuses armées , donc logiquement un bon choix !!! de belles aventures à venir !!... j'attends les vidéos avec impatience !! je vous suis déjà depuis un bon moment !! que du plaisir !!
Gear hubs: look in the oil if there is any signs of metal in them. With that amount of rubbing it should be a lot of metal visible. No metal = older damage. If a wheelbearing was bad many years ago that could have happened then, but it should not be an issue now.
Ooof... that's a bit of a project. The rules are different in Sweden compared to Finland, apparently. In Finland even 'museum' vehicles need to be inspected I think every two years, and they need to keep being original in order to pass it. I just checked and 50+ year old vehicles in Sweden don't have to be inspected. That's amazing. Granted, it first needs to pass an inspection in original form to get there, but still. I suspect there may be some trouble ahead if it's registered and inspected as a truck and then re-built to be a camper but officially still a truck and something happens or some bureaucrat or policeman decides to start looking too closely at it... probably good to have that discussion with someone, AFTER you have the final inspection done :P
There will be no issues converting it to a camper in Sweden. Just as long as the weight isnt exceeded its max-capacity and they don't add any gas lines for heating.
Not "in the Volvo community" but am in the Merc community and I'm suggesting the OM606 as one of the most swapped engines :) Think that would suit too - unlike say a Cummins swap, which would be awesome but overkill. I've a OM364LA in my Merc 814, love a Merc engine for reliability.
There are some newer Volvo diesel engine at the market and they will turn a little bit more then an old OM thing. All of this is worked out and will be shown to us later on I guess.
@@rvarsigfusson6163 aye, but its a 50yr old truck, and they have "an old OM thing" back in bowser, and want simple and reliable for round the world travel without ULSD requirements. Could be a Cumins, but I still think OM606 is a good call for this truck, although I'm currently on a OM364LA and my next (very slow) build has a OM904 - and even though a OM904 is epic I still think the OM606 is a better match for this build.
welcome to sweden,,the iconic military volvo is a great machine but they use a LOT of gas, like 6l/10km so you should consider a engineswap to a diesel ,Mercedes 300 engine whas popular to put in them back in the days but today a modern turbo diesel is a better choise,
No the b30 engine is perfectly fine if you take the time to set everything right and don't drive over 80-90km Mine draws 1.5-2 liters per mile (10km) But a big problem is the old "pil" tires, when I changed to new quality tires the petrol consumption was halved
Thanks for a great video, just a fact correction, you compared Perth over 2 million population with Malmö city population on around 340000 but Perth is Greater area like metropolitan and Malmö is much bigger than if you use those numbers with 770000 people, still almost 1/3 of third 🙂
You can have the engine in but the gearbox is so integrated that you will ruin the truck...... almost as difficult as putting a new box in Unimog ...... I do think so yes. I love this Sweden's military trucks. Do anybody know where they are...... I have seen some of these trucks but never as much as there in a same place. I guess it is in Sweden.
@@rvarsigfusson6163 In the 90s there was a big auction of military vehicles and they were being sold for nothing. They are still pretty common in sweden but no one really drives these. The reason being that it is more or less impossible to get any parts for it. The engine is often an earlier redblock so components for this is easy. But for example you need to replace wheel bearings incredibly often on these. And I think 5 years ago one wheel bearing would go for around 400 dollars? It's the same for most of the other parts and it isn't getting cheaper. The negative thing about people buying these old trucks and driving them as camper vans and etc is that the already limited supply of parts is even lower. Perhaps new options will surface as they become more popular, but I doubt it. It's a real shame that people are parading to buy these old trucks only to convert it to camper vans for some instagram influencer lifestyle. They could've done the same with any other truck out there that is easier and cheaper to maintain. But I guess these people wish to pretend their life is all about off-roading and such, even though all they do is drive through some snow once a year.
I see now that still in order to get something such as wheel bearings for this vehicle you need to order incredibly expensive ones. One front axle was quoted at 1000 dollars 8 years ago. Cheaper if you go directly to the manufacturer at "only" around 500-800 dollars. And they do not last long at all. Imagine 6 wheels. Thats around 3000 dollars to replace wheel bearings.
@@heartobefelt I would help you if I could. All I got was some info from old swedish forums early 2000s. If you need more concrete info go to swedish volvo forums and ask for dimensions, then take it to your supplier.
You DO know those are really thirsty, I drove a C303/TGB11 for almost a year (10 000km)in Northern Sweden, it used 28 liters per 100km driving it at mostly 90km/h, I reduced the consumption to "just" 20L per 100km by reducing the speed to 70km/h. the engine, and downtuned B30 same as in the Volvo 164. The TGB13 uses even more fuel and the military set an max speed for it to 50km/h when I last did my military service about 30 years ago. Also, the engines needs 98 octane and ledreplacement fluid to keep the valveseats lubricated. I had to reduce the advance on the ignition timing or it would have detonated it's pistonheads to kingdom come. It is a beast in terrain, that is for sure, with it's vacuum actuated locks. Watching the video while I type I see that you are changing the engine, that should make up for some fuel economy. If you install a turbo engine, don't forget to add avacuum pump or your locks will be on all the time. This is also how it manages with one parkingbrake on the outgoing shaft of the gearbox, as when the engine is off all locks makes it brake all wheels.
The standard tires on these are good in terrain, but seems to be made out of erasers as they grinds down fast. I hope you'll find some others, quieter and good. The standard size is a bit odd 280/80 16". Getting slightly larger might reduce the engine revs.

Really interested in this build. Your mog was amazing but huge. Why not keep and rebuild the vehicle Volvo 6? Likely a very reliable and easy to fix on the trail. Looking forward to see how this goes and your tips. Did you consider a pinzgauer? Wishing you all the best on your European adventures.

Just a quick one mate. Keep the battery for the heater off the concrete as it will drain the power from it.
Just put it on timber etc
Thanks for the tip!
That hasn’t been the case since battery casings started to be made by plastic. You can store any modern battery on concrete with no problem.

It would definitely be the greatest experience to see awesome things with the ones you live only a daily, weekly, monthly and yearly timeline. Keep up the great work , this is my first video of watching y’all so I subscribed to enjoy the journey y’all have ahead.
Just Sick, Wow! I love it, can't wait to see it in action 🤙
Thanks a lot for watching! Unfortunately we won't be able to drive it for some time but we are keen to take it for a spin at some stage too :)
@@TheOutFit Hey Chris, let me ask, are you planning to put a pop up roof or something similar to that?
@@treetime3043 There will be a roof conversion yes :)

Watching from the Netherlands 👌 my dream is to take my C303 down under and travel around. Best of luck with your adventures
Wish you good luck with this project, please 🙏 keep safe and warm this is cold place not Australia😀🤞
Thank you so much for following along Victor!
You guys have guts. A LOT! I am looking forward to this.
We wanted a challenge, we got it 😅
Congratulaciones......(desde ARGENTINA) Sud America....🥰😍🤩😘
Super projet !!
Il est magnifique et j’ai hâte de voir la suite.
Pour le moteur je pense au 6 cylindres 2,5 litres diesel avec turbo.
Bon courage à vous 3
À très vite

Great to see this project lifting off. Best of luck from Melbourne.
Thanks a lot for following along, it means a lot!
Nice. I so want one of Those things. The 4x4 or the 6x6. :) live confidently and peacefully
Haha I’ve just found your channel and paddocks is in my home town, looking forward to watching all this process, personally I’d have just rebuilt the brakes to get it through the inspection process then stripped the vehicle to clean and replace everything? Good luck
Congratulations guys! Looking forward to the many new adventures to comes! ✌️❤️🤙
Thank you so much for watching and taking the time to comment, much appreciated!
Do odważnych świat należy . Dużo szczęścia z tym 6x6 ✌️👍
Interesting for a Swede that done millitary service in the 80s so i subscribed.
Thanks for subscribing, hope you enjoy the build series! Episode 2 coming out on Thursday :)
excellent engin adopté par de nombreuses armées , donc logiquement un bon choix !!! de belles aventures à venir !!... j'attends les vidéos avec impatience !! je vous suis déjà depuis un bon moment !! que du plaisir !!
WOW unreal guys just watching this is blowing me away and its just the first video thew !!!!
Thank you so much David for your nice comment, very motivating!
Welcome to Sweden! Really fun project. I'm jealous. 😁
Tack! Thank you for watching :) hope you enjoy the build series!
FYI.. put a chunk of plywood between your new battery and the concrete floor. the floor sucks the voltage from the battery and you will kill it.
Looks cold ! why not make a plastic tarp shelter/room with in the workshop? Great video ..
Good luck with this. Be safe and keep the vids coming !!!!!
Thank you for watching Alexandros! Hopefully we can release weekly videos again :)
welcome to sweden,,the iconic military volvo is a great machine but they use a LOT of gas, like 6l/10km so you should consider a engineswap to a diesel ,Mercedes 300 engine whas popular to put in them back in the days but today a modern turbo diesel is a better choise,
No the b30 engine is perfectly fine if you take the time to set everything right and don't drive over 80-90km
Mine draws 1.5-2 liters per mile (10km)
But a big problem is the old "pil" tires, when I changed to new quality tires the petrol consumption was halved
Thanks for a great video, just a fact correction, you compared Perth over 2 million population with Malmö city population on around 340000 but Perth is Greater area like metropolitan and Malmö is much bigger than if you use those numbers with 770000 people, still almost 1/3 of third 🙂
My guess is: Om606 with the corresponding Mercedes Benz Gearbox.
Get a 230VAC to 12VDC converter instead of emptying you starter battery 👍🏻 keen to see the end result
The rust is likely caused by salt on thw winter roads, so yes, essentially salt water. :D

Thank you so much for watching! As long as Oakley is happy, we are happy too :)
B21 engines have hard valve seats and do not require lead proxy additives. But the ethanol in Swedish petrol is damaging the seals and rubbers.
It’s an inline six
Really interested in this build. Your mog was amazing but huge. Why not keep and rebuild the vehicle Volvo 6? Likely a very reliable and easy to fix on the trail. Looking forward to see how this goes and your tips. Did you consider a pinzgauer? Wishing you all the best on your European adventures.
Excited about the new build. Could you use your new ryobi impact on your gear puller?!
