I was watching Rocky and eating chicken. She finally came out. I gave her a piece of chicken and she sat with me for the whole movie eating chicken off my place. 4 years later, she's still glued to me and eating off my plate.

fun facts: the budget was so limited that every single scene was shot on one take. Sly was offered $600,000 to have a bigger name celebrity to play Rocky. During the running montage in the italian market, the orange thrown at Rocky was unscripted; one of the vendors decided to be a little fresh. During Carl Weathers’ audition, he had no idea the guy he was sparring with was Stallone, the writer, so he didn’t pull any punches; so the creative team started looking at him funny like he was committing the world’s biggest faux pas; conscientious of their reactions, Weathers finally spoke up and said “I can do better, I promise. I know I can make it look better if you brought me a better actor.” Sly and the others broke out laughing and Sly said, “Him. I want THIS GUY to be my Apollo Creed.”
Couple of notes: The film was actually directed by John G. Avildsen, who directed the first three Karate Kid films as well as Rocky V. Fun fact: Avildsen won an Oscar for best director for this film then won a Razzie for Rocky V. The film was actually released in 1976, but in December. And Aaron is right. @@gerstelb It wasn't the city that blocked the motions to place it at the top where it was in the movie, it was the board of the museum. Most of the city was behind moving it there, both the population and a lot of elements of the government over the years. It's been a while but I remember reading that Ed Rendell - both as mayor and governor of PA - supported it. A board of... 5? 6? people decided not to. It wasn't until most of them retired in the 00s that a compromise was reached IIRC.
Aaron asking "Who names a dog Butkus?" It's the same as people naming them "Brady" these days or "Jordan" in the 90's... Dick Butkus was the most feared man in Football during the 60's and 70's... so not a strange name back then. ;)
I have been to Philadelphia and run up those steps and lemme tell you, you are PLENTY winded by the top if you are out of shape! There's also the footprints of Rocky cast in the cement at the top that you can put your own shoes on.
The thing I liked about Rocky is that it does a really good job of playing up the drama of a boxing match. Even if you don't understand the rules of boxing, the actors' portrayals make it easy for you to figure out important moments intuitively (like the part where Rocky has his eye cut during the match).
I hate how people don't get the relationship of Rocky and Adrian from the beginning. The entire film is a love story and how they are perfect for eachother.
This is arguably still the best underdog movie made. I loved watching your guys reaction to this and I hope that you do reactions to the rest of the Rocky movies.
im from Philly, That Rocky statue was relocated about 3 times, first top of the art museum steps, then in a grotto near the old Spectrum (before they demolished it) and now in a grotto at the bottom right of the art museum steps
The scene with the girl also shoes he's a really good guy, and just like when he didn't break the other guy's thumb, everyone dumps on the guy for his efforts. He's a lonely guy, and no one appreciates him. Everyone thinks he's a loser. Adrian is a lonely woman, and her whole life she's been told she's a loser. When Rocky calls her beautiful, she tells him to stop teasing her. The movie is first and foremost a live story, but it's a "there's someone out there for everyone," story, and humble man does good story
Slight correction. This movie came out in 1976 but because movies used to be in theaters for longer and people used to actually care about the oscars, it did still end up being one of the top grossers of 77 lol
In my head canon...a few years before this movie takes place Rocky was walking home from the gym one night and comes across Gazzo, who was collecting what he owed from a guy, only Gazzo underestimated him and the guy had friends with him and it was kind of an ambush on Gazzo. Rocky comes in and defends Gazzo enough to get them both out of there. Since then Gazzo looks out for Rocky.
Henry Winkler had a big role in getting the rights back to this movie so that Sylvester Stallone could star in it. Stallone wrote it and sold the rights to a company, but they didnt want Stallone to play Rocky. Winkler went back to the studio and was able to get the rights back to Stallone so he could star in it!
I remember watching these with my friend who never seen the Rocky movies. We went through all of them before Creed II. This series is close to my heart, so down to earth and a feel good story. ❤
The fight takes place on January 1, 1976. Although July 4th was technically the bicentennial, the whole year was celebrated as such. There were commemorative coins and memorabilia that was produced and sold throughout that year. This was incorporated into the movie as a boxing promotion used by Creed that he references a few times in the movie. It's also why he came out dressed as George Washington.
Just so we have all the details Stallone wrote the screen play for every Rocky through Rocky Balboa. He directed all of them except for the original Rocky and Rocky 5, which were both directed by John G. Avildsen
this movie was written by sly, he was broke had to sell his dog because he could not feed it, he would not sell the movie unless he played rocky, even tho he was offered 100 grand, yes it was low budget, the whole movie was shot in 28 days, i hope you guys, go through the full 6 movies as they get better and better
Nasal sprays also contain pseudoephedrine which is a stimulant that is banned by WADA. There have been a couple athletes in the Olympics who got caught when WADA had updated their stimulant list and they hadn't changed their nasal spray when they had a cold and ended up testing positive for banned substances.
Rocky's dog isn't named _Buttkiss._ It is *Butkus.* He also appeared in _Rocky II._ He actually belonged to *Stallone* in real life. Oh, Rocky came out in Nov. '76 (US bicentennial).
You have to remember . This film is set in 1976.. Apollo as Washington is celebrating what was at the time the country's bicentennial. 200 years of being a country. It wasn't just Apollo doing something crazy although he is clearly very much the guy to play to the crowd.
Rocky Balboa, Adrian, and Paulie are the greatest characters in cinema. They perfectly balance each other, and are perfectly made. Rocky, is stupid to a certain degree, but he makes up for it in his emotional compacity. He speaks in simple words in every sentence, his dumb but incredibly funny humor is a prize for his character, and the feelings he has and what he has to say about them drives the entire series. Adrian, first shy, becomes the backbone for Rocky, and always has his back, helping him understand his own pain and suffering. Paulie is the best character though, after watching all the Rocky movies, you realize he has the greatest, and most devastating arc. Paulie suffers every step of the way, a true description of the working class, and the pain he feels from being over shadowed by everyone in his life. The Rocky movies are not boxing movies, and while every movie has much emotion, Rocky is superior in this concept, the Rocky series is about emotions and feelings. This is why Rocky is the greatest movie franchise of all time, ive rewatched the series dozens of times just to see Paulie. PLEASE WATCH ALL THE ROCKY MOVIES I BEG THEY ARE UDDERLY AMAZING. PEAK CINEMA.
Omg I would run Paulie over with a car if I could. I hate him. He’s like, my most hated character ever. He’s insufferable and I was so angry when he wasn’t even dead in the last movie (not the actor obviously, I’m sure he’s fine) Edit: just to clarify, I’m not criticizing you for liking him, I was just so dumbfounded cause I watched all rocky movies recently with a friend for the first time and absolutely loved them - but I honestly hated Paulie so much.
This was Stallone’s first movie. And My first date! Watching this in the theater when it first came out (1976 ). That turtle tank was typical for the 70s. Two turtles, a pinch of food. I had the same thing suffice to say turtles didn’t live long. I was in the crowd for rocky 5 and I can guarantee they filled the stands. We didn’t move. Lots of locals came out to fill the stands.
Speaking on fight choreography, Stallone revolutionized the way it was done and Rocky had the most realistic boxing scenes of all movies up to that point. He wrote out each move and then he and Carl Weathers followed it in the same way as following the script for dialog.
Stallone and Weathers were hitting themselves for real, and they both got injured. The injuries were the opposite of the ones they had in the movie. Stallone had broken ribs and Weathers had his face beat up.
Please react to the other movies as you have to the fast and furious ones. For me this is one of the best franchises of all time, I think every movie, including the Creed ones, has something amazing even if you're not a boxing fan (and if I include the fifth movie, especially if you compare the coach relationship with pupil with the relationship with Adonis). And I think Rick put it perfectly, all these movies are about the evolution of a person from being someone who doesn't think they have a future, but a lot of passion, to getting their dream by self improvement and even finding the love of their life and family that they never expected that in the end is more important that the fame and glory. And the best thing is that we see it twice, in Rocky and in Adonis, and both are so distinctive that they feel incredibly special on their own.
I recently made my way through most of the Rocky and Creed films for the first time so I'm looking forward to seeing you guys do the same. This is a really fun watch.
In my High School senior year, I had a Media Analysis class (basically watch movies and write essays on them in the context of a prompt we have to answer), and this was one of the films we watched. Watching this reaction, the memories from that class are coming back and I'm remembering the notes I took 😅 Good times.
I think this is the perfect opportunity to say….. You notice how invredible similar the mandalorian theme is to rocky? The composer from the mandalorian made the score for creed also. Thats so amazing
One of my all-time favorite movies & movie franchises. Stallone & John G Avildsen introduced one of the all-time great & inspiring characters in pop culture history. The cast is also stellar: Sylvester Stallone, Carl Weathers, Talia Shire, Burgess Meredith, Burt Young, & Tony Burton. Then of course the musical score by Bill Conti(who would also do some more iconic movie scores later on for the Karate Kid movies, which was also directed by John G Avildsen). This was just the "first step in a larger world" & most of the movies from here on out just get better & better.
Lol I remember watching Rocky when I got older and realized his stragedy was to let opponents absolutely wail on his face until they get tired, then make a come back.
This was already a classic when I was a kid in the 80s, I didn't care much for it, I thought it was an old people movie. Only in my teens, mid 90s, around the 20th birthday of it, I actually watched it start to end on tv. I love it. Great movie.
Rocky is one of my favourite Movies and it was great to see you guys reaction to it! Also just wanted to let you guys know that there seems to be some sort of small error thingy with the 1:02:42 Time Stamp on the Description
There was a time where rounds kept going til someone was knocked out Then they went to 15 rounds and after someone died in the hospital following a match it went to 12 rounds.
Everytime I rewatch this movie now-a-days it makes me think about the Anthony (Creed) vs Andy Ruiz (Rocky) fight from 2019. Its almost a retelling. From Ruiz only getting 1 month to prepare for a shot at the heavy weight title after the original fighter had to drop out to Ruiz getting what many people consider a lucky shot early on which caused Anthony to be off for the rest of the fight.
I like how Eric says "I can't quote it, like...lord of the rings". He didn't go with Star Wars, because he can probably verbatum say every line in those movies.

“You need a roommate?” One of the best moments ever
Full length for everyone, since this is the first episode of a series? 😏
Love your work, guys! Thanks for your dedication to great content!!
Now you guys gotta watch all the movies, including “Creed” Movies as well 😂.. loved the reaction video guys 👍 👍
The greatest love story ever told, hidden within the greatest hero franchise.
Slight correction. This movie came out in 1976 but because movies used to be in theaters for longer and people used to actually care about the oscars, it did still end up being one of the top grossers of 77 lol
pleeeeeeeeeeeeeeeese do the rest of the series, its so rewarding and special honestly one of the best sports movies of all time
YESSSSSSSSSSSSS I just watched all these movies again and it’s one of my favorite franchises, top 5 ever, I might actually cry
I am so HAPPY you guys did this!
Director and Music Director of “Rocky” also worked on “Karate Kid”
In my head canon...a few years before this movie takes place Rocky was walking home from the gym one night and comes across Gazzo, who was collecting what he owed from a guy, only Gazzo underestimated him and the guy had friends with him and it was kind of an ambush on Gazzo. Rocky comes in and defends Gazzo enough to get them both out of there. Since then Gazzo looks out for Rocky.
The dog Butkus is named after Dick Butkus, a linebacker for the Chicago Bears in the 60s and 70s
So he sold the rights twice then? Because I know he doesn't own it now
I remember watching these with my friend who never seen the Rocky movies.
It's also why he came out dressed as George Washington.
i love these fucking movies, so happy you’re watching these
"He needs to, at least, put his hands up" Looks like we're in for some disappointment. Rocky blocks best with his face.
Not enough is ever said about how good the musical score of this movie is.
Rocky was directed by John G Alvidson, who also directed Karate Kid 1-3.
Loving the Ippo shirt!! And loved this reaction video 🤩🤩
Now I need the rest of the Rocky and Creed movies 🥊🥊
Nasal sprays also contain pseudoephedrine which is a stimulant that is banned by WADA. There have been a couple athletes in the Olympics who got caught when WADA had updated their stimulant list and they hadn't changed their nasal spray when they had a cold and ended up testing positive for banned substances.
If Rick is happy I'm happy
Stallone purposely didn’t want to add a lot of blocking because it’s entertaining when two boxers are fully going at it
FINALLY!!! Excited to watch you guys take the whole ride.
OH MY GOD!! I just Realized that the Victor Running Scene in Arcane is Modeled after this scene 38:55 in Rocky!! including running past the boat.
Rocky's dog isn't named _Buttkiss._ It is *Butkus.* He also appeared in _Rocky II._ He actually belonged to *Stallone* in real life. Oh, Rocky came out in Nov. '76 (US bicentennial).
John Avildsen was the director and won the Oscar for it. (He also directed Rocky V and Karate Kid, 1, 2 and 3.) Mr. T was in Rocky III.
And now the wait begins for the best Rocky film....Rocky Balboa 🎉
Um not in any universe. The original Ricky is always the best. Period
@@Michael-tj5bk it's number #2 for me. Balboa is top 😉
Can’t wait for y’all to watch the other films!!
Stallone still own those turtles!
I always forget that Mickey also played the Penguin in the Adam West Batman series! So great!
The music in that entire final sequence though !
The Normies synergy with Rocky and Always Sunny is crazy. The more the merrier I say!
Really hope this leads to a creed reaction. One of my favorite movies of all time and is a true love letter to the rocky franchise.
Gonna be awhile. Like with the DC animated movies and Bond.
He’s insufferable and I was so angry when he wasn’t even dead in the last movie (not the actor obviously, I’m sure he’s fine)
Edit: just to clarify, I’m not criticizing you for liking him, I was just so dumbfounded cause I watched all rocky movies recently with a friend for the first time and absolutely loved them - but I honestly hated Paulie so much.
Who has a greater story than Bran... I mean Paulie.
I’m sorry, did you say PAULIE had the best arc? Paulie is a jerk and overall a terrible person
Paulie is awful & takes zero responsibility.
@@dylancooper4993 He spent his life abusing his sister. I could do without him in these movies.
Beyond stoked that they’ve started this group of films, what a ride they’re in for, if they die, they die
he still actually has the turtles btw!
Stallone was in Death Race 2000 in 1975 and that was absolutely awesome
The Rocky statue is actually down below, to the right of the steps. They do have the imprints of his sneakers at the top, though.
Such a great franchise
IT'S ABOUT TIME! I remember buying these for you and you opened them in mailbag. I believe Calvin took them LOL
This movie is about people feeling good about themselves. About hope, and putting in the work to achieve their dreams.
1:06:36 Rocky's turtles WERE in Creed.
Yup; the scene where Donnie and his girl are "sparring" in Rocky's apartment. The camera pans away from them, and focuses on the turtles.
One of the best movies!! Loved seeing this reaction, and Rick's joy of it is infectious.
I remember my dad had a copy of an old MAD magazine with the rocky parody ( ROCKHEAD ) and Apollos name was changed to APPALLING GREED lol
Burgess Meredith will forever be The Penguin.
I hope you guys do all of them!
Dude Rocky is my favorite movie ever! So awesome you guys chose this to react to. Please do the crow soon 🙏
Rocky was released on November 21, 1976.
There was a time where rounds kept going til someone was knocked out
Then they went to 15 rounds and after someone died in the hospital following a match it went to 12 rounds.
I watched this series for the first time about 2 months ago and fell in love with it. So good.
Such a classic
Everytime I rewatch this movie now-a-days it makes me think about the Anthony (Creed) vs Andy Ruiz (Rocky) fight from 2019. Its almost a retelling. From Ruiz only getting 1 month to prepare for a shot at the heavy weight title after the original fighter had to drop out to Ruiz getting what many people consider a lucky shot early on which caused Anthony to be off for the rest of the fight.
I like how Eric says "I can't quote it, like...lord of the rings". He didn't go with Star Wars, because he can probably verbatum say every line in those movies.
