Such a cool guy. I actually love his youtube channel more than the tonight show. No script to follow here, it's himself just a cool guy who loves fast cars.
All those bad comments about "heavy" V8 in light European chassis... I'm from Europe, and I just love cars. No matter if the engine is a V8 or a flat6 or a V12, the real point is, will it "talk" to me? And with this one, answer is yes, of course! Well, the sound don't really match the appearance, in my personnal opinion, but this is a real beast, and it seems to be a good sports car. Even with a V8. And, well, for those who don't like American V8: what are you doing here? It's an American show, with an American Jay Leno (you don't say...), and obviously, with American cars and engine! So try to be tolerant, or go watch... I don't know, Top Gear, you won't see so much Chevy V8... Oh and, by the way, remember of the origins of the tremendous AC Cobra...
Even Clarkson (ex-Top Gear now) appreciates a big, powerful V8, regardless of whether it's American or not. Getting blinded by nationalism is always an ugly thing. Far too many fall into that trap.
The idea that US V8s are big and heavy is just a matter of ignorance at this point as it has no bearing on anything produced in the last 20 years. The GM aluminum LSx engines are around 450 pounds dressed, and around 400 with out accessories. The mighty Toyota 2jz inline 6 is nearly 600 pounds. The 2.0 liter f22c in a Honda S2000 is often viewed as some kind of paragon and it fully dressed with it's transmission is only 170 pounds lighter than a 5.7 liter LS1 dressed with a T56 six speed. A engine that can easily make 500hp and last 200k miles adds the weight of a passenger to a S2000. People seem to under estimate how heavy small displacement engines are, and over estimate how heavy large displacement engines are.
anyone who knocks a v8 engine has obviously never been behind the wheel of a well built muscle car, you just don't go fast you get pinned to the seat fast.
Jay, I love you man...your a mans man evident by all the coolest stuff. I hope we're gonna see more of you after the TV gig runs out. peace... can you say...flat spot?
Thanks for another great episode. Don't know how I missed this one in April. Love to see you go over to La Cañada Flintridge to talk with Lynn Park about his Cobras!
Hello Jay. Love the car power to weight is everything your right. I build reverse trikes in SLC UT and I run a Hayabusa 1300R in my unit. the total weight turn key should come in around 1000+/- lbs the motor is putting out at 179hp. But anyway I just wanted to say that every time I see you when you where on the tonight show or any time you give a interview for anything. You are just a so down to earth guy, just a reg Joe this is a very rare thing .Love to see your show some time.
hey jay congrats on retiring. tv died longtime ago few years from now so will combustion cars. i hope you will keep your virtual museum alive on the interwebs
i think you should do a full tour of your garage. all the cars from your favorite car to your least favourite car and why i think that that would be awesome and so fascinating
Jay mentions how cars are getting heavier for safety reasons while there are those going in the opposite direction with lighter cars. The funny thing is your survivability in a crash with this car's welded tube chassis is greater than the majority of all those heavy cars.
Hey Jay, I got ya beat. I prefer mechanical linkage to cable for the gas pedal, much more feed back. Back off or modulate your gas pedal and you can actually feel how the carburetors) are reacting through your foot. You can feel the vacuum and the communication helps you drive better. I had a 66' Chevelle SS 396 L-78 with the 3 two barrels set up from the L-89. M22 w/4:11s That mechanical linkage spoiled me. The next car I got, a 64 Impala SS 327 4 spd had cable. No comparison!
Wonderful car for the summer in north or south Dakota. It is amazing that you can buy this much performance for under $100,000. as long as you are willing to risk your life. When you are well above the speed limit no car is really safe no matter how many airbags it has.
I wish with all my heart they would rent cars like those that you had a chance to experience. Not a day rental or anything way out of price, but say for 100 or 100+ just for a quick ride, whether it's someone giving you a ride or you taking it out for a few minutes, half an hour, that would be a dream. For a regular person to experience his passion without having to be filthy rich and purchase every car. Most people just want to experience them, can't afford to own them, and too many to own.
Not entirely sure about the styling. Wouldn't say that it's wrong, exactly, but wouldn't say that it's right either. Particularly the nose cone. But the concept and most of the execution, this is what a modern sportscar should be! Start with a Corvette and turn it into a gokart, but do it professionally, properly. Or slide a 5ltr V8 into an Arial Atom. Or a Lambo V10 into a KTM Crossbow.
Kneedragon1962 a v8 in an atom and lambo v10 in a crossbow... my god the fun that would be.... probably need a really fancy expensive traction control system or awd system.. or like 24 in wide tires lol
Jeff Rose What would you need? Well, a twin engine superkart doesn't have traction control, and you can drive them. It does get a tiny bit exciting. A ZX14 (2009) doesn't have TC, and it's actually quite easy to ride. What do you need? Some common sense. A desire to do it, because there is risk, so why would you do it if you didn't want to? And on the subject of risk, you need some cahones my man... A good tightly worded deal with your insurance company might also be desirable... Sometimes your cahones are bigger than your skills or luck.
Jeff Rose Relax. LOL. I wasn't taking aim at you. Vehicles with extreme power to weight are extremely exciting, but they take some skills, and they take some courage. That's all.
bigzepplin Well, there's nothing wrong with that. That's where some of the best and greatest cars have come from. (Pun intended.) My objection to this one is simply the styling. It might be a whole lot of fun to drive, I don't know.
i think that too. its like when a tv show gets canceled after 5 seasons, eventualy you either run out of ideas or just get tired of doing the same thing and want to move on to something else. there's a reason Bon Jovi has done country and Snoop Dog is doing Reggae music, something different. even after just 4 years of a fast food job i had years ago, i could do it in my sleep (and did so several times).
I love this car and also would love to see the side by side comparison with the sector 111 drakan that he tested a few months back. same ls2 with Porsche transaxle but with that patented bell crank push rod suspension. Either way we love you jay can't wait to see the next restoration blog
Just like the top comment, im not into cars AT ALL, but I know which cars I like - and the way Jay is talking about his posessions makes me excited! Jay, you're awesome - and recently I found out you're on TV also, didn't even know that when I subscribed :D
Power to Weight is great Jay... but you still need to be able to put that power to the road. Just because you can put a large engine in a chassis doesn't mean it will be fast, but it definitely means you can make a great noise trying to be fast.
Yo Jay, I love this show!!Beautiful car, thanks for taking me on yet another virtual test drive.I too think you should have your own Automotive T.V. show. You were great on the tonight show but that was all scripted and made for the masses.Everyday I check TH-cam to see if you posted somthing new. Thanks again Jay!
Jay, can you do some videos on some of your more modern bikes? those two hondas in the background look awesome, RC30? and something vintage and RC. Lets see em !
Tremendous little car. Jay Leno is right about power to weight. For an economical alternative at 60 mpg....the Brabus 452 Roadster at 800kg / 1760lbs pushes out 105+HP off a tiny Mercedes Smart 700cc 3 cylinder engine. It holds the road like a go kart on rails and is so much fun to drive. However...who wouldn't want a Deronda or mad British beasts like the Westfield Megabusa, Grinnall Scorpion or Dax Raptor?
The Roadster wasn't sold in the US. I was floored when I saw one in Scotland. I thought "Wow, a Stupid (my name for the Smart) that I would actually consider buying".
It has an F1 inspired look to it and is different from the norm. I enjoy cars that are outside of the box and get back to the basics in certain elements. There are alot of cars being made today that are taking away from the overall experience of driving in the name of chasing numbers. This is not one of those. Kudos!!!
I think its pretty darn good. Does the car have anti-lock brakes? With the bias controle I am guessing not. Surprised the rear tires are not larger but concidering the gvw it makes more since the way it is. How much do I have to save for this?
These types of cars are my absolute favorite. Nimble handling and you don't need a million hp to get the speed you want. They just make sense. I wish major manufacturers would build more things like these so they weren't so expensive though. They should be the rule, not the exception. Cars are just getting bigger and bigger, and to drive all that extra weight we need more and more wasteful hp. Big heavy pigs on the road, which somehow pull over a G on the skipad because we're putting more ridiculous tires on them. I DO wish these had a slightly more significant roll cage though.
There are some people whom always seem to be angry and looking continuously for a conflict. You are such a person. Best to deal with, is to be the mature one and to walk away. As I am not the troll and as you are incapable to answer the even most simple question. Good luck with the rest of you life...You will need that.
I hope we see 10x more videos on here. Everything to do with cars. Anything you may have. Even when you're just in your garage do some work on a car, tell us all, Video it!
Such a cool guy. I actually love his youtube channel more than the tonight show. No script to follow here, it's himself just a cool guy who loves fast cars.
Jay seems so down to earth. His head never got so big. Well maybe lol Uncle Will
Jay's wife must be a very special lady.

i'm by no means a car person or a fan of jay's work in the entertainment industry but i could watch this man talk about cars all day.
Jay, I love you man...your a mans man evident by all the coolest stuff. I hope we're gonna see more of you after the TV gig runs out. peace...
can you say...flat spot?
I have no negative criticism for this TH-cam channel. Jay, your producers and you are a godsend to TH-cam.
Jay is right on....this is the way to go if you're looking for real performance in a vehicle you'll take to the track from time to time. What a blast!
Summed up in one sentence: "Formula 1 car for the streets!" Cool to watch, sounds (roars) great, would love to take it for a drive!
"Nanny State" I love how Jay tosses things like that in from time to time
I am a 'car person' and a fan of Jay's work, and I feel the same way...
"I'm gonna go get my jacket" which is also denim! Amazing!
This is by far one of my favorite channels on TH-cam!
Jays garage is what I imagine heaven to be for us gear heads
Thanks for another great episode. Don't know how I missed this one in April. Love to see you go over to La Cañada Flintridge to talk with Lynn Park about his Cobras!
Dam Jay, ive been watching this show since the start, and the shows have really gotten better over time, a lot of information in 10 minutes. Hats off

Thanks for the ride, Jay! Gotta get to work now
I saw this at the British Motor Show in 2004. Hadn't seen it since but I can't say I'm surprised it disappeared
i think you should do a full tour of your garage. all the cars from your favorite car to your least favourite car and why i think that that would be awesome and so fascinating
From the the windshield back, it looks great. Front, not so much.
Funny coincidence: De ronda means "so ugly" in hungarian. :D
That's funny. In Portuguese it means the honda
Jay mentions how cars are getting heavier for safety reasons while there are those going in the opposite direction with lighter cars. The funny thing is your survivability in a crash with this car's welded tube chassis is greater than the majority of all those heavy cars.
im sure you haters would take back what youre saying if you got behind the wheel. thanks again for sharing jay!!!!

That's not a car, thats a drivable toy for the weekend. Where do I sign up for one?
What a sound track! As Bryan Adam's album said: 'Waking up the neighbours'....
I would love to visit Jay's garage and get a history lesson on the cars. Of course a few test rides would be cool too. Keep up the good work Jay
Building a car for enthusiasts is a total 180 from convention. Everybody exhale and appreciate it for what it is.
I don't think I've seen Jay drive anything on his channel this hard before
sweet new ride. Glad to see machines being built without all the added bs.

Love that V8 Rumble!!! I wonder if under the right conditions it could accelerate 0-60 in under 3 seconds.
this car is awesome, i absolutely love it!

I love that little buggy sitting at the back of the garage :):)
o.0 i wish they had some stats for this thing but god lord that 1 - 3 with the throw on that must be AMAZING
Hear that sweet....SWEET buzz in the background noise?....damn utility shop lights.
best reviews of cars we've never heard of
Best series on youtube
Love your garage! Jay Leno. Thanks so much for sharing . Oh but those to die for Jaguars ,, loving this site very much ,,.
Interesting headlight placement I don't think I've ever seen anything like that before.
That looks like something I would definitely drive in a video game.
Really enjoying your videos Jay. I am now subscribed and going through your collection. Look forward to your next one.
Jay said no fenders, but in fact it's one of the rare cars that do have fenders. Most cars replaced fenders with quarter panels.
Just like the top comment, im not into cars AT ALL, but I know which cars I like - and the way Jay is talking about his posessions makes me excited!

and i know that thing has gotta be fast, my 02 LS1 Camaro was a rocket after just a few easy mods
Jay's great isn't he! Good show! Enjoyed it.
Jay, start your own car show!!! You will succeed for sure!
lol I was thinking the same thing the whole video, would have never guessed anyone else would pick up on that!!!
the addictive sound of an American V8,,,,,,,,more please
Now that you have some free time coming up you can put this show on the TV. I can't wait. The Tonight Show on wheels.
NOW...I know how to drive it
Yes Jay leno is going to have way more episodes.
Jay, can you do some videos on some of your more modern bikes? those two hondas in the background look awesome, RC30? and something vintage and RC. Lets see em !
lot of folks around here put that engine in their dune buggies and sand rails, you see alot of em up at Little Sahara in Oklahoma
Horse power will put a grin on a man's face any day. You go Jay....

Designer of the king of nannies and a car that does the driving for you.

Well, I AM a car person & Thanks Jay sharing for your toys and time.
Btw, if you didn't know, the Toyota FT-86 is a lightweight sports car.
Jay needs to do a show on Rotary powered vehicles!
Like the old saying goes..."If more is better, then too much is just enough".
This car comes equipped with a BBQ grill on the back end. Nice touch.
i like how Jay is reminded how old he is getting with nearly every car he reviews
I like it! Very cool Jay! Wish I could get one.
It fills good to know they make this in my city. I'm a big atom fan but this has a vett engine. I need it lol
Jay Leno is the best!
That looks like a blast to drive!
I was gonna say its ugly but I changed my mind, I really like it, even more then the Atom.. really cool! Awesome as allways Jay! THanks!
I Like This Show Better than the tonight Show.....Great Job Jay Five Stars *****
Jay Leno for Top Gear USA
There are some people whom always seem to be angry and looking continuously for a conflict.
You are such a person.
Best to deal with, is to be the mature one and to walk away. As I am not the troll and as you are incapable to answer the even most simple question.
Good luck with the rest of you life...You will need that.
Thank You,Sir.
I wish I could thumbs up this a billion times.
When Jay is driving I just see normal cars all around the Deronda
From what I saw of the higher horsepower Ariel Atom on Top Gear, it was virtually uncontrollable with 300+ HP.
I hope we see 10x more videos on here. Everything to do with cars. Anything you may have. Even when you're just in your garage do some work on a car, tell us all, Video it!
Another great show
We need something like this with a hard top . For when it rains
That’s awesome! Thanks jay, very entertaining. I want one, very cool.
King of Denim: Jay Leno
The LS2 is the same as an LS1, an LS is an LS is an LS. They're all literally the same block with slight variations to the heads, headers, etc.
Jay,
Now that you're done with the Tonight Show, please host Top Gear USA.
- Every gear head in the US
This is one of the coolest cars out there!!
Jim shull Sacramento, I think your Deronda is perfect.
Give us a tour of the whole garage. I want to see what else you have. What you've had the longest. And the last thing you bought and why...thx
Very very cool car. I wonder what it would look like, changing the red to blue and the black to white.?
i dont know about other people, but that was one of my favorite looking cars
You guys need to do a video on the BAC Mono.
Man that sounds good.
Such a beautiful sound!
Thanks Jay, my new favorite affordable car.
