The thing is this - for me - I once played a week with a former Jazz Messenger - who assumed that I knew all that repertoire. I didn’t. It’s a ‘niche’ repertoire too. I was embarrassed by my playing. And I grew to hate him. He never ‘accommodated’ me at all. I struggled but I made it eventually. A huge learning curve for me. He was a b*****d. A very well known messenger.

You also can practice to play wrong on purpose. It's broadening your skills. You know which way to avoid: been there done that

There seems to be like a contradiction to me.
If you sound good when you're practicing then you're doing it wrong. Ok, I get that. But so many people also say "slow down your practice, make it slow enough you can't make any more mistake!" I must say i'm a bit confused.

There is never one single answer to anything. There are always nuances. But the point in this situation is that it's not the best use of your time to work on things that you can ALREADY play well. You want to practice the things that don't currently sound that great - and the point of practising them is to GET them sounding great (which may involve slowing down etc etc)
