Have researched these types of heating products for 3 months now and by far the product is Ditra. Now just have to finance this product along with either wpc or spc vinyl flooring.

In the ditra heat over concrete video at 1:59 of the video he talking about adding "something" under the ditra heat duo to get extra r-value. What type of insulation do you recommend or would be covered by your warranty. Cerazorb? Cork underlayment and would i thin set mortar that down then thin set mortar on to and set the ditra heat duo mat. I have slab in grade with no insulatiin under it. Looking for best r value and not lose my heat into concrete, subfloor. Thanks.

Hi Kevin, this might be something that you would want to discuss in a bit more detail with your local Schluter rep. If you send through your city and zip/postal code, we can connect you. Thanks!

Hey, I’m in Michigan! I’m about to proceed with Ditra heat for our main floor tile. Are there any benefits or issues with using Duo over plywood subfloor? We have a full basement. Is there a sound benefit that’s worth it? My only interest for sound isn’t the downward noise from tile impacts, but from basement noise coming up (kids playing and watching movies). So is Duo overkill or is it worth the upcharge?

Hi Nicholas, DITRA-HEAT DUO is designed more for impact sounds. It will most likely not assist with airborne sound reduction, so you would be better off to use the regular DITRA-HEAT membrane. Please give our Product Support team a call directly if you'd like to discuss your project in more detail. 800-472-4588 (US) or 800-667-8746 (Canada). Hope this helps!

👍 Do these types of membranes both require the use of thin set mortar? Thanks

Hi there! Yes both DITRA-HEAT & DITRA-HEAT-DUO require thin set to install them. We do offer a Peel &Stick option for both membranes . You can check them out here: www.schluter.com/schluter-us/en_US/Floor-Warming/Schluter%C2%AE-DITRA-HEAT-DUO-PS/p/DITRA_HEAT-DUO-PS?facets=false

Can you install engineered wood flooring over top of DITRA-HEAT-DUO or would you require a underlay between them?

Hi, Jeff! Yes, engineered wood can be installed on top of DITRA-HEAT-DUO. See the Alternate Floor Coverings section in the DITRA-HEAT handbook for more information and installation instructions. Hope this helps!

Does ditra heat duo offer more R value if used over a plywood subfloor? And can ditra heat be used as a primary heat source for specific areas such as bathrooms? Or is it better to use it as a supplement to our baseboard heating?

Hi Anthony, you may want to call our Customer Service team to discuss a particular project in more detail. But here is some information that may help for now:
DITRA-HEAT-DUO adds the same R-value over plywood vs concrete subfloors. The key is that DITRA-HEAT-DUO provides increased floor warming response times over concrete vs wood. The membrane still helps over wood, just not as significant as over concrete. See the 'DITRA-HEAT-DUO' content in the back of the DITRA-HEAT handbook for more information.
DITRA-HEAT is designed to provide floor warming, but may be able to be used as a primary heat source, but there are many factors and variables involved. See the 'Space Heating' content in the back of the DITRA-HEAT handbook for more information.
Here is the link to the DH Handbook: sccpublic.s3-external-1.amazonaws.com/sys-master/images/h4c/hf8/9300427800606/DITRA-HEAT%20Installation%20Handbook.pdf
And here are our customer service numbers if you'd like to discuss in more detail: 800-472-4588 (US) or 800-667-8746 (Canada).
      Hope this helps!
