Great video! I like to shoot some challenge shots with my 8+! Would love to see what you could achieve with the portrait modes and lighting!

Sir what you did in the video that's nice but it's a normal think for me because I shoot with my redmi note 4 a way cheaper phone than the iPhone 8 but it is ok because I should landscape mostly and I know the power of the end is because you talk about Raw versus jpeg and make lots of videos to explain after that I started clicking pictures with dng files and it's also challenging for me because I can't afford a camera but I want to learn about photography more and more so I started with my phone as a amateur mobile photographer.....

Top stuff, Jared! Love how you managed to cram a phone camera review, a camera app tutorial and a photography guide into a quality photo challenge video, which is basically a mobile screen recording. Hats off to you Sir!

Great video. I would like to see you using a micro four thirds camera in a concert, but not a top model, maybe a 4 to 6 year old one with a kit lens

Interesting video Jared. it was cool to see how regardless of the equipment, it is the photographer that makes the difference. The fact that you were able to get a couple of keepers is a plus.

A little more here than I needed tbh, but very much appreciate you showing us you getting out there and actually doing it rather than just yammering from behind a desk (which has its place, but...you get my point).

On the Iphone camera, if you hold the down on the screen you can you can lock your focus then drag the exposure level. It's a pain but can be done.

  • @UllasPV

As I've heard many times in photography videos, the right camera is the one in your hand. If a phone is what you have then that's what you take pictures with. If you brought a better camera then use the better camera. In any case, the goal is to get the best photos you can with what you have.

Very nice job and yes ever since Apple came out with raw on ios10 I've been taking photos in raw never JPG ..... but yeah it's always kind of hard to find the sweet spot for low light photos because you need to be on higher ISO which gives more gain and can mess up a photo but too low and end up with blurry photos
When I take photos I stay 25-100 sometimes I go to 160 and move the shutter speed

I love taking concert photos! (Instagram: lieserose_toronto) I don't know why I didn't think to use Lightroom mobile camera, so thanks for that! Being as this is an older video and I'm in the market for an updated iPhone (Still rockin' the iPhone SE), do you have any suggestions taking into consideration I'm looking for a phone great for concert photography?

    About the horizontal word...
Actually it's one more Greek word , our word is ¨οριζόντια" or orizontia if you cant see the Greek letters.
The emphasis (yep another Greek word "έμφαση") of the orizontia its on the second "o".
Usually the english word is just the Greek word and simply change the emphasis.

Ok, so I challenge you! (again)
Shoot some sport action with 35mm film camera. Use 3 rolls of 36 exp film, and one color, one black and white!
    Looking forward to see this!

Love it! You're my photography idol! Lol and I wanna ask?!? Does keeping the screen recording on affect photos? Coz the camera is writing on the memory and the screen recorder is also writing on the same memory at the same time?!? I don't really think so but just a question I thought about looking at the video... 😕

I like the LR app because you can shoot and quick edit to do a fast post on the fly then when I get to my computer the photos are already in LR Classic to edit better.

It looks like the pictures taken with the phone (when you darkened the image using the slider) were just darkened JPEGs, sort of like if you took a picture in JPEG, then went to lower highlights too much.

2x zoom often uses the wide angle lens if the light isn’t sufficient. In the native camera app, at least.

      What do you mean?

    • @Adi-vq2ek

Jared Polin I meant to say that there was a spelling mistake. It's horizontal and vertical, not Horizontical. You see, -cal and -tal..... Your video is awesome though. Gave it a thumbs up 👍

Nice video .. hmm low light with a pinhole to a smaller than half a pinky nail sensor. These cameras are fine for anything day light and close up flash photos. However, no doubt the camera and video capabilities have gotten night and day better than just even a couple years ago, it's the SoC processing and improved small sensors. I'll also add the battery life has also similarly improved. Both Apple and Android are over all improving their smartphones.

So when you used the iPhone camera app, did you shoot jpeg or HEIF (the new Apple photo format that is more compressed than jpeg and is turned on by default)?

My old phone, the camera firmware wouldn't even let you adjust settings manually. With the phone I just bought, I actually have full control over all settings, and it's SOOO much better.
