    Can you do a video breaking down throttle input during these turns? That’s the one thing that I can’t quite figure out and it’s difficult to tell when you are pressing forward vs backward vs strafe only. Thanks!

    This is one of those key elements of dogfighting that a new player just wouldn't know, so I'm really glad you're highlighting it here. Just another example of why so recommend your videos to everyone who wants to improve in space combat!

    Excellent video and explanation on each step of your dogfights. That poor Retaliator was a proper bullet sponge =D

    Classic 45-45-90 triangle mathematics for why pitch+yaw rates combined are a tighter turn. Both pitch and yaw are at 110 deg/s each, but combined they are ~155 deg/s.

    THANK YOU so much! This detail did a great difference for me! I’m still quite the rookie pilot, but this helped me a lot in my dogfighting!

    Nice, I didn't know when you should 45 degree vs full pitch. Now I know the idea

    just what i was hoping for, a new video :D
    Very nice fight. hopefully we will see more atmo fights soon since players will be doing bounty's in them more hopefully people get more comfortable with it and we see more atmo content (its my favorite)

    This is true not only for gimballed mav thruster ships like the Sabre, but also fixed mav thruster ships like the Talon. If you don't believe A1, go into free flight, and try fully deflecting pitch, and time how long it takes you to rotate 360 degrees 10 times. Then compare how long it takes to do the same thing with a combination full deflection of pitch and yaw.

  • @louhodo5761
    @louhodo5761 3 ปีที่แล้ว +8

    This depends highly on the ship you are flying. Some ships you definitely dont want to 45 trans in them. Because your yaw thrust is so low that it hurts you more than it helps you to just fight in pitch. *cough* Hawk *cough*

    Great tips man. I like my Sabre but it's really not stealthy as no matter how low your IR or EM gets, cross-section is still over 9000 which is detectable pretty far out. From a top profile it's as big as a tennis court so you have to be on top of your game to not get lit up

    45 kinda feels more of a given, since fighter aircraft in atmo turn at a 45 bank
    But I've also just in general discovered on accident if me and an NPC are doing circle ballet I turn to an angle and can put rounds on target where before they were just outside of it

    • @bastiandoen2583
      @bastiandoen2583 3 ปีที่แล้ว +2

      that was my impression as well, but I just had a hunch that it kinda worked well. Good to see someone with knowledge and skill analysing it!

    • @Power5
      @Power5 3 ปีที่แล้ว

      I feel this is incorrect for aircraft. They need to use their lift vector for fastest turn rate. That is just how aerodynamics work on planes. Put the wings in orientation so the lift vector is directly at the target, not at a 45. You would end up just barrel rolling around your target with 45 degree vector. Yaw is used to fine tune the point of aim, but yaw is much less effective than the lift vector in atmo flight.

    • @Anvarynn
      @Anvarynn 3 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      @@Power5 I'm not talking about in dog fighting, I meant purely that whenever you for instance see fighter aircraft break off they always bank 45 and rudder yaw + pitch

    • @Power5
      @Power5 3 ปีที่แล้ว

      @@Anvarynn that is called a coordinated turn. The yaw is just used to keep nose coordinated. If you bank an aircraft and pull back on stick to turn, the plane will want to nose towards the opposite side of the roll. This is called adverse yaw and is due to aerodynamic differences between the lift of each wing.

    • @Anvarynn
      @Anvarynn 3 ปีที่แล้ว

      @@Power5 Oh I know, but it's incredibly effective, and efficient

    It's funny how all of the tactics used for modern-day flight sims like aligning your pitch angle to the opponent's vector to maximize turn rate just isn't applicable in Star Citizen.
