    These were basically my takeaways from this:
    Study materials:
    CompTIA Security+ 601 Exam Objectives
    Professor Messer Study Course
    Jason Dion’s practice exams & course. Make to know why a certain answer wasn’t correct.
    Things to study
    Focus solely on the exam objectives.
    Study plan
    Don’t burn out.
    Exam tips
    Skips PBQs until the end of the test.
    Don’t spend a long time on any given question.
    I hope this can help others prepare as well.

    Hey man, currently studying for Sec+, about a month into studying and i'm pretty comfortable with lots of the material, however the only thing I am worried about is memorizing ports and protocols. I understand they aren't on the exam objectives, but have been told it could be important to remember some common ones for the test. Did you run into any ports questions on your test? How did you go about learning ports/protocols?

    • @watt4098
      @watt4098 ปีที่แล้ว +4

      I actually learned those while studying for the Network+ cert. I literally just got a bunch of flash cards and wrote the port on one side and what it is and does on the back. I studied between 5-7 cards for about an 30mins before going onto the next 5-7, then I studied all those together before adding more cards. Hopefully that’s helps a little

  • @gilfernando7623
    @gilfernando7623 8 หลายเดือนก่อน +1

    I passed my exam today. 770! I followed the advice here. Flag all PBQs and do the questions first. However, you can still read the longest questions more than once to better understand what they are asking you to do so you can choose the best answer. I read the longest questions twice before choosing the right answer! Because of flagging the PBQs, I had enough time to finish them. My exam only had 76 questions and three PBQs. Also, I advise not to study on your test or exam day. Your mind should be relaxed on that day! Also, it is way better to take your exam at a testing center than in your house! To flag the PBQs, on the screen, right underneath the time or clock showing the time as you progress with your exam, there is " Flag for Review". so you have the PBQs, you want to flag, you simply click where it says, " Flag for Review" and you are good! you can flag as many questions or PBQs as you want. However, I advise not to flag many things. You just wanna flag PBQs. Try not to flag questions. Just read at least twice and you should be able to pick the answer!

    • @ImCyberJames
      @ImCyberJames  2 ปีที่แล้ว

      Hey Chelsea! My overall IT experience is around 8 years (although not in a professional setting, so very minimal.) When it comes to Cyber the only cyber experience I have is my current college but I also finished up a 3 month Cybersecurity internship last month that i'm meaning to make a video on. When it comes to studying it really depends on your critical thinking (since a lot comptia exam questions regard critical thinking) and knowledge retention. Since you're currently enrolled in a Master's of IT program I would guess you have a pretty good idea on what works best for you when it comes to studying. Also the thing with Cyber is that in a way everyone is new to it ;) it's always changing and the field is so broad. Hope this helps!

      Hey Jeff sorry for the late reply! The total would be around $30 give or take for the training material. $14 for prof dion full course and $14 for his practice exams which are both on Udemy. Also here on TH-cam are the professor messer study groups which are free. I highly recommend them. The exam costs around $392 USD from CompTIA but you can google "professor messer security+ discount code" and he'll save you around $50 if you buy direct from him! Good luck!

      Appreciate it! I have more videos planned. I'll be taking my SSCP tomorrow in-person so i'll made a video on that. I have Pentest+, CySA+, and CCSP planned for the next three months. I'm also currently a Cybersecurity Intern and I plan on making some videos about my experience. Thank you for the sub!

    so these tests are not a reflection of how much you know, but how well you can take a test. they are meant to second guess yourself. i passed, but honestly, i know nothing, i just know how to take a test. i bought a bunch of practice tests and learned to associate acronyms together. i'm still trying to learn in school, and going to start looking for a job so i can actually learn stuff

    Hi Cyber James, what type of book do you recommend to study CompTIA security+? My upcoming exam is 2 weeks from now.

    • @ImCyberJames
      @ImCyberJames  2 ปีที่แล้ว

      Hey Asrin! I didn't use a book, but Jason Dion's full course comes with some nice notes to study. Professor Messer also has Security+ notes that you can purchase. Good luck on your exam and let me know when you pass it!

      Are you asking when i took the exam? I had about 5 minutes to spare on the exam but i spent a good amount of time trying to fix a performance based question that wasn’t working correctly and i had to end up skipping that question altogether.

      I see what you're saying. Professor Messer recommends using his information as supplemental studying and not a complete training solution. At the end of the day his business is created around this material and I'm posting about what I used to to help pass. Thanks for the comment!
