    Great well thought out video. I'm just getting into fountain pens and these Chinese pens are a great way to figure out what kind of pens I enjoy without breaking the bank. With so many to wade through online I appreciate your reviews very much. 👍😎

      I've heard that some people having trouble with the ink leaking by wingsung 3008, did that happen to you? i really like the pen but Im so afraid of getting ink on my finger

    • @JavierArellano
      @JavierArellano 6 ปีที่แล้ว

      Hello! No problems with leaking. Only problem that I had with original model was (like described here) the rust on the screw inside the cap. Other than that, this pen is a charm, smooth nib and high ink capacity. I vouch for this pen!

    Pens from BAOER are good.The 388 is a grest pen its not scratchy if you use it regularly.Once i bought an inexpensive plastic pen fron Inoxcrom,at first the iridium nib was scratchy,but using it regularly,became a great pen ..! The same stands for BAOER pens.

      I'm British and have been using fountain pens on and off since secondary school (age 11) now 27. I just think every country has different appreciation for them. Definitely going out of style. I'm finding it harder to get a variety of affordable fountain pens off the shelf.

    I subscribed for your beautiful accent. I do love inexpensive fountain pens. I have several Jinhaos, mostly the big heavy ones. I want to check out your new sources. I’m in the USA, so I usually shop on Amazon or US retailers. I do not like scratchy nibs so I’m leaning toward medium nibs. I love the Kakunos as well. You present so well. 💝

    I just received the Wing Sung 7363 which is their ECO clone. It has the same filling mechanism as the 3008. The nib was trashed but I had a few spares around so no big problem there. Same balance and feel as the 3008 with a plain cap and fewer shiny bits.

    Thanks so much for your reviews. They encouraged me to but the JinHao 911, as well as the Baoer 388. The first is comfortable but a bit scratchy. The Baoer 388 is just delightful though. Beautiful pen and easy flow,and writes like a dream. I , like you have tried numbers of odd ingredients for ink like red wine, calamari sepia, boiled red onion skins etc with various but generally unhappy results. I was so pleased to see your video on food colouring. I went straight to the kitchen cupboard and immediately tried, with EXCELLENT results. In fact I had a clogged pen that would not write with proper ink, and which now writes well with the colouring!!!! I am an artist,so I have played around with the tones, and have found something I am happy with. A mixture of red and a little blue to make a sepia sort of colour, delightful to draw with.Thanks so much, you are informative, well spoken, and helpful. So nice to hear an aussie accent for a change too!

      That is my understanding as well. I'll use them to fuel my desire to tinker. I recently ground a "stub" from a Jinaho 992. Not perfect (as I removed all the tipping material) , but its fun to write with and relatively smooth.

    Jinhao 699. Hooded nib, matt black metal body. Awesome pen! For big one, check Jinhao 159

  • @paulherman5822
    @paulherman5822 4 ปีที่แล้ว

    My choices: for both metal body and hooded nib, the Wing Sung 6100 (if you can find them.) Your choice of the other Wing Sung for the metal body is great as well.
    Plastic body? Hands down you nailed it with the Jinhao 992. Another hooded nib one would be the Jinhao 51A with the hooded nib.
    Large nib would be the Jinhao number 6 nibbed pens (I'm partial to the 159, myself. I kind of need the primary crayon in the hands of a very small toddler vibe of it. 😁)
    Piston filler would be the Wing Sung 3008.

    I bought a Wing Sung 3001. It says "Wing · S" on the clip, the nib says "Wing Sung", and the band has the Wing Sung logo with the number 3001. It's a nice pen that writes very well. The only complaint is that if I open the barrel the converter has a habit of falling out. There's not a good fit.

    I bought a Jinhao 450 from the wish.com site a few months ago......quite satisfied with the smooth writing pen and 60ml Hero ink which at 6$nz was 1/3 the locally available ink. Value for money...if you don't mind the 6-8 weeks delivery time from Suzhou to NZ.

    The best fountain pen I ever had was a Waterman Phileas Kultur wich was the cheapest from waterman (8,5€ at the time). Then I tried the new waterman allure (17€) wich is not as good, and the 40€ parker IM wich was by far the worst. Since the price is unrelated with the quality from my point of view, I bought about 5 chinese fountain pens yesterday (from 1,5 to 5,5€) to know if their quality/price ratio is higher than europeans fountain pens...

    Previous owner of the Baoer 301. Definitely one of the best pens I ever had. There is a Lamy Safari with a hooded nib, by the way. Jinhao 878 with 0.38mm. I really like extra fine pens so I ordered the 911 after your review. Small and sharp pen is very much my thing. And I suggest you order Hero 9626 for giggles. It's a sub $2 fulmetal hooded pen with funky looks. 25g and 13cm. It's surprisingly heavy for its small size. Gold-ish fine hooded nib does the job. Overall a guilty pleasure of mine. Bought it for my mom but kept it because it's just great. Curious how it compares to the 911.

    • @m.o.cfitnessrolemodels3642
      @m.o.cfitnessrolemodels3642 6 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      my first jinhao 886 was amazing. it wrote like a medium nib pen. the ink flow was smooth and consistent. it was light weight and wrote well on all kinds of paper. in fact i was so impressed that i bought a 2nd jinhao 886 and it turned out to be a complete failure. way too much ink flow even on good quality paper, wetting the paper completely, rendering the other side of the sheet completely useless.
      so one success and one complete failure.
      which is still better than hero 616, four failures and no success so far, lol.

    • @MR2Davjohn
      @MR2Davjohn 6 ปีที่แล้ว

      ghalib khan That seems to be the kind of odds you get with the Chinese pens. You almost take what you get. Some work, some don't. I have the Sheaffer School pen that is the perfect depiction of a cigar pen. Jinhao 886 so much reminds me of that pain. They are so much alike. At least in writing. The Filling systems are just a little different in the way they hold the cartridge. But nib performance, ink flow, handling size, they are so much alike, and both of them are a pleasure to write with. I hope your future purchases of the 886 will give you such pleasure to write with. Happy writing!

    I recently purchased 3 Wing Sung 6359, and while I love the pen. Mine have a plastic barrel and cap! I wanted the metal version, and I am a bit weary of purchasing them on eBay, because I didn't get what I originally wanted. All the listings I saw say that the material is metal + ABS. Does anyone know where else I can get a metal Wing Sung 6359?

  • @Aquaria
    @Aquaria 6 ปีที่แล้ว +5

    I had a horrible experience with the Jinhao 911. Super dry, hard starts, skipping--it was in every way awful. I ended up gifting it to someone who was willing to tinker with it to get it to work. My favorite hooded nib pen is a bit of an odd duck. The eBay seller calls it the You 291, but if you look at the actual pen's markings, the cap clearly says Luoshi, a known Chinese pen brand. It's not only an all-metal body pen with beautiful weight and balance to it, but also an incredibly smooth and wet writer. In fact, it writes better than some pens 50 times its $2.99 USD price. It even looked better in person than it did online! Cannot recommend it highly enough.

      Hi Harriet. Yes, you are right. The 801 is a copy of the Parker Rialto actually. I have a number of 801's- they are fantastic for the money, and, in my opinion they are far superior to the Vector- which I also have several of. The 801's come in numerous finishes. I have a couple of Green Leopards and Aurora Borialis, plus the stainless steel.
