@@queensmovement9379 in 15 years of ownership the car has had its share of problems just like any car... some electrical, some mechanical... just recently a transmission and heater core... but my car is 22 years old now and almost 300k miles.. so it was due for a failure in those areas. Maintenance is a key in keeping your beetle or any VW rolling strong for long periods.... And its a VW so with the proper tools and manuals you can actually do the maintenance yourself.
I had a 98 beetle. Also had a 2001 beetle and both had so many issues. It wasn’t until I got the 2006 model where I barely had any issues with it. Still love these cars. It’s a shame so many people have ruined these cars. The ones I see are all banged up. My 2006 model still looks brand new.
I have a 2002 model I bought from my sister and she had it for 6 years prior. Not too many issues and the issues that crept up wasn't anything i couldn't fix. Its a great car and looks pretty much brand new and the paint is nice and shiny.
I know :( most people don’t take care of them and they look beat up. I own a gorgeous 2007 TDI and it still looks beautiful, even with 280k miles. I love how economical and fun to drive it is
I have a 99 Beetle GL. It has a manual transmission, roll-up crank windows, and tape cassette player. I bought it new. I even got the new beetle pin mailed to me before the car came out. Now, here in 2024 - it still is in perfect condition, and has never let me down - ever. I still love driving it. Even today, it is still is that futuristic silver pod I loved when I saw the "Reversed Engineered from UFOs ad" back then. I remember when I was signing dotted line, I asked the dealer if my New Beetle could fly. The dealer thought I was asking if it could go fast... My car still has the rose sitting in the bud vase - one of the first things I got after I "flew" the New Beetle off the dealer lot. Oh yeah - I also still have the VHS tape that came with my car as well, plus EVERY yearly service record - all 25 of them.
I love the look of this model of the new beetle - things like the oval lights on the back just add to its appeal. The new beetle that follows this one, does not have that "cute" look!
theres a reason it no longer looks cute. 70% of New Beetle buyers were women so VW mad a more masculine looking beetle to entice men with the 2012 version
This must've been a pre-production model because the headrests don't have holes in them (as noted in the chyron). Also it lacks fog lights -- those were added a few months into '98 New Beetle production.
The gl didn't have fog lights or armrest and cost $15, 700 instead of $16, 850 for the gls. I tried to buy a gl in 2000 but ended up getting a gls because that's all they actually stocked anywhere
10:55 I've been stumbling on a bunch of old videos with this actor (multiple VW "Driving Your..." videos, Rockwell Retro-Encabulator, etc.) and he normally plays everything so "straight" that this was genuinely funny. Was not expecting it.
98 the year when life never made sense to me. I was in standard 2 and i was tormented by fear shame & anxiety. Thanks be to GOD i’m free now. I came to knew such car existed in the year 2001 & it was in the supermarket magazine (where there was a toy Volkswagen new beetle picture). After accomplishing the most vague, notorious facts memorizing primary education, i came to knew this car existed in real life when i was playing the video game mid town madness on the internet cafe with my friends. So much memories. The day that i will come to Germany i will buy this car.
A family member had the 1st 98 bug in San diego.. September 97 I believe.. for a pest control company.. it was a turd bucket. Spent more time at the dealership
I swear I've seen both of these people in Jeep owner information VHS tapes... if this is the same woman in the video I believe she went on to do QVC programs on TV.
It must've been a preproduction thing. This is def a 98, flat mirror controls, small mirrors, no overhead clock, and no turn signal repeaters. No sots of the car show the VIN :(
Lots of weird things on this model • black rear view mirror • grey window/trunk/fuel cap release button surrounds • black cup holders • head rests • no clock in the headliner (98’s had a clock separate from the mirror in the headliner) Also, the 98’ specific things • only one dome light • HVAC temperature panel is red only • no “oh shit” handles on the roof • Banjo key instead of a switchblade fob • no side indicator by the mirrors • no headrests storage on rear bottom cushion • Round A-Pillar tweeters vs triangular • side mirror controls Pretty neat to see how they changed it over the years
This owners video was created because of concerns that there were going to be a high number of new women drivers hitting the road. If you notice, the video does have some elements of "Here is a car in general" to it. Great video for a great car though.
They were used up, and thrown away :( It's too bad, they are a great driving little car. They're stiffer, and have a better center of gravity than a Golf or Jetta.
i can buy one for free hahaha have a renault megane 2 and found a usa version like the one in video black on black only 123000 miles.. ice cold ac can trade it in and get like 200 euros from the dealer for the renault
My 2002 bug is still running great and has never broken down and left me stranded.
That's cool Miguel
I love my 2005 Miami edition New Beetle! It looks like the one in the video 🖤
This video makes this 98’ beetle look brand new.
Well... It was brand new back then.
I should watch this for tips as I own a 09’ beetle but I’m here for the seemingly dysfunctional marriage 👁👄👁
I have a 99 beetle, Ive owned it since 2006 and i will never let it go
Omg I just got my first one which is a 1999
Do you have issues!

2.0 or TDI?
If you can find the shifter linkage from a 2000 or 2001 A4 car it's a huge improvement over the recycled MK3 setup the 99 and 98s have.
Let the man drive the dang car lol

@@Mario_N64 id beg to differ, i mainly see men driving both the NB and Beetle around near me, the men usually have the coupes though
I watched the entire thing

Stumbled upon this and it just reiterated my joy in owning a 1998 beetle TDI!

I terribly miss my moms beetle, it was so funny to look at and drive. To bad it was riddled with problems and we had to get rid of it :(
An astonishingly comprehensive review, great!

And the fahrvergnugen it provided?

I have a 2010 new beetle. Thanks
this same house is featured in the 2000 Buick Lesabre Product Master also featuring Mike Kraft.
I just noticed the headrest are squared here. VW didn’t use that type of headrest until 2003. ‘98-‘02 had the donut shaped headrests.

Can you Please Post the 1991 Ford Aerostar Promotional Video? Because I have looked everywhere of it and I cannot find it
Do any new vehicles come with videos. (Of course in a more modern format like DVD?)

Our 18 dodge came with a dvd.
What happened to all these new beetles, they are now rarer to see than the originals

I wonder if that's Mike Kraft's own house where they recorded all these videos at?
I've wondered that too. I found and friended him on flakebook, I should ask.
compu85 Can you please post the 1991 Aerostar Promotional video

What about blockheater. Is it equipped with this ??
That was never a factory option.
