    When changing wiper blades, I always put a magazine or newspaper on the screen where the arm would touch it, just in case it snaps back, as it WILL break the screen. I saw this happen to a mechanic a few years ago and I have done this as a precaution ever since.

    Just a heads up Matt,
    The horseshoe clips are definitely better when they are fully put in first
    Then push the hose into the housing afterwards, it can be quite hard to push the pipe inside but you'll get a satisfying click when you know its fully seated
    The pipe you have actually looks like it could be the lower hose.
    Its the one that comes from the turbo to the intercooler as I assume the beetle also has the side mounted intercooler like the rest of the Mk4 platform!
    You need to remove the drivers side wheel, remove a few clips / T25 torx in the wheel well to access the hose.
    I assume it's either split or like alot of the PDs has the issue of the hose blowing from the turbo due to the horseshoe clips being put in after the pipe!

    • @BazAdams-
      @BazAdams- ปีที่แล้ว +1

      Added note,
      I had a quick look through a parts list for the PD beetle
      The intercooler is sidemounted
      It's on the drivers side,
      The part you have supplied with the car, the code should be 1J0145828AD
      If my cross reference is correct,
      If not just punch the Part no into Google & it should tell you which pipe you have
      As previous mentioned however, I'm pretty sure it's the lower hose from turbo-cooler
      You can also tell if one side of the hose, the metal part is smaller internally one side as that's what sits against the housing of the turbo!
      Best luck mate, fab little engines!

    Good job, Matt. Glad you didn't wreck the factory wheel trims. They are worth a bob or two and are getting rarer by the year. The headlamps look ever so much better. I have been using McGuire's PlastX for years. The 33 year old headlamp lenses in my 90 Volvo 240 are still as clear as the day the car was built. Some day I will get a set of the glass E-Code headlamps to replace the North American polycarbonate ones.

    • @Morgans_Miles
      @Morgans_Miles ปีที่แล้ว +1

      Pretty sure they *aren't* the factory wheel trims... when I owned that car, I researched them and the closest I found were some Amazon specials. They are utterly horrible and on a sunny day with the window down they do rattle... I just hadn't got around to binning them!

  • @tonys1636
    @tonys1636 ปีที่แล้ว +1

    Time to clean those steel wheels up they look cool bare. Cable ties on wheel trims is compulsory here whether they have a tendency to become airborne or not. A pain when changing a wheel when coming down in buckets and pitch black. Manufactures should have stuck with glass for headlights. Plastic may have saved a couple of quid and a few grams of weight but cause owners hassle.

    Check the part number on the hose matches the paperwork. Googling the part number on your paperwork, it says that part is the intercooler to intake manifold boost pipe.
    Also there's no need to buy a headlight kit. Just rub them back with some 2000 wetndry until all the yellowness is gone, then buff with some compound and a DA polisher, then apply a ceramic cleaner to stop them yellowing quickly again.

    I’ve never known why some wiper blades curve (Mk1 Galaxy/Sharan/Alhambra do the same)! I think they’re supposed to curve upwards when parked (they looked to be curved downwards currently). I think they will overlap better that way, but probably no other difference to performance.

    Could be wrong but I think those wiper blades are curved the wrong way round. Think they're meant to cueve upwards as opposed to both downwards. If that's the case swap the plastic clips the other way around to allow the blades to curve up the screen. Think the new Boost hose sits under the front of the car coming out of the Intercooler. Unless the top hose you took off originally is split (you'd need to check!) then that the other bottom hose. Check the part number on Google and check any images, might show where it's situated. 🙂

    • @robinevans8475
      @robinevans8475 ปีที่แล้ว

      @@furiousdriving the original blades were curved, some VW like the Golf/Bora/Passat had a curved passenger side blade only but I think the Beetle had two curved blades. Obviously the curved blades were more expensive than the normal straight universal type, so that is why you may have had the non curved fitted?. As the poster above said, I think you've got them on the wrong way round, the curve should be on the bottom to follow the scuttle panel

    Those wipers are horrible. I would have replaced the wiper arms & blades in one hit. I absolutely hate old ratty wiper arms.
    Also I don’t know how number plates work in the UK. However in Victoria Australia where I am all our number plates are issued by Vicroads
    (our DVLA equivalent) you cannot go & buy number plates in the shop. You must go to a vicroads office & get them.
