Having owned several variants of the original beetle.. Since 1982, unfortunately ages caught up this year I sold my 72 Super Beetle And finally my bad back and needing heating and air conditioning etc I finally succumbed to getting a 2002 New Beetle model 1.6 5 speed manual delivered in Australia, badged as IKON , German for iconic. After having a beetle in my life since 17 yr of age..a few months. I miss that quirky car and have now have this new beetle, which is now old! I was lucky the car was sparingly used and looked after very good and rare example here. I just do the maintenance on it and enjoy driving it. It’s a lot of fun the then new Beetles sold about 10,000 in Australia. It really was a pretty good nod to the original being the last production with the large dash- in Australia it was called the L Beetle. After 40+ years with the old car, I am now championing the new beetle, They too are getting rare especially in good condition , because mine is red with a factory sunroof I get a lot of comments bypasses buys in car park , service station etc just like I did with my 72 model. I think if you have one hang onto it in 10 years time. There will be resurge in interest after everyone sick of these EV s and SUV all same shape, designs. The new beetle is pretty unique given Wolfsburg Germany, commissioned Californians to design it and it was produced in Mexico so it is truly a World card. And the sales figures of the second and third generations have contributed to the original beetle tally
