I just love how Atari is spending the time to properly revisit their past. I’m looking forward to the 7800 and hopefully Atari keep up the focus on the past and release new versions of their other consoles as well!
Also not sure if they have the money to mass produce them but I would love a universal wireless Atari joystick controller that can connect to android, switch and pc to play some of my fav Platformers and Top-Down arcade games, similar to the Xbox controller.
@@BeingADik_Jacob The wireless classic joystick released with the VCS would work with all of those. It works great with Neo Geo schmups on the mister fpga.
I bought a 2600+ - I love it! Being a 70’s/80’s ‘kid’, I hesitated to buy, because I am all about the original stuff. One day, I said, why not?! It’s now or never…
I think it would be cool if Atari would take their classic library and make high resolution remasters, including the Jaguar games. I was gonna get a 2600+ but didn't have the money, but I'm gonna get this one. I have the VCS, it's in the box being saved.
Got the 2600+ so while the 7800+ looks really nice I don't really need it. Will be getting those cartridges though (provided they are available worldwide or on Amazon) as they are a really good value as well as a nice showing from Atari to not only acknowledge the homebrew scene but reward these developers by re-release there game sin an official capacity...... Imagine seeing Nintendo do something like that.
Very interesting. Hopefully the engagement with 7800 will allow a new wave of homebrew and we can see what the system is really capable of, such as homebrew has revealed Amstrad is a fantastically capable system.
@@TheLairdsLair true there are some good ones. I'm just thinking about the incredible stuff that comes once a lot of people are focused on an old system rather than just a handful 😁
Apparently the wireless controllers work with the 2600+, and includes a DB9 adapter for original systems and USB adapter for PCs. That sounds like a good deal all around.
It's intriguing, especially with a proper set of 7800 controllers. The cross platform support on the 2600+ was kinda pointless without them. Wireless is certainly a cherry on top, but I'd still wait to see. I am curious what all they have planned for this release. Rikki & Vikki would probably be a tall request, with the different sound chip and all. The only thing that was stopping other devs from using a real chip back in the day was Atari's authentication scheme.
Given the 2600+ doesn't play all my 7800 games (which work on my 7800), I'm concerned about quality control. I'd rather have a simple firmware update for the 2600+, tbh. Still, we'll see. It might be worth the purchase
Hopefully after the 7800+ has run its course, instead of trying to re-release the Jaguar, Atari tries to make a proper successor system. Will be interesting to see if they can
I was disappointed with the 2600+. There were problems with common PAL games like Pole Position displaying the wrong colours. I dont think it was tested enough and the furmware update was still in beta the last time i looked
Is it worthwhile? 🧐 not sure yet. The Bentley Bear game looks great! Other new games are coming out. The joypad is wireless which is really cool. But AUD$200 for pretty much an Atari 2600+, I’m undecided. I’ll need to get drunk to justify the preorder.
This is not a new console. It is a 2600+ in a 7800 shell, with a wireless controller. If a 5200+ with re-engineered analog controllers was announced, they we could have gotten more exiting news.
Just my personal opinion: it's a 2600+ with go faster stripes and wireless controllers. The controllers themselves aren't going to be enough to push the average 2600+ owner to buy one. For me personally: my nostalgia is for the 2600, that's what I owned as a kid and by the 7800 era I was well into my Commodore phase. This is still going to be a good console for most if they were fans of the 7800 or they are just getting into it and like the wireless. Just not for me, I would have preferred a 5200+ Side note: so is Retro Games making a 400/800 Maxi? Or maybe an ST? We had a full size C64, a full size Amiga has been announced and there is a 3rd "full size console" listed as well.
They are doing a 400 Maxi apparently, which is still the wrong move in my opinion as it should be an 800. I think Retro Games really botched the Atari 400 Mini, which is why I didn't get one.
@@TheLairdsLair They definitely dropped the ball on the 400... If they are committed to a Maxi 400 I hope it doesn't drag them under. 800 would definitely be better, or even dare I say a XEGS! (Although maybe that would be a good Atari project, a XEGS+ 😉) I think the real savior for them will be the Amiga. It's interesting that they just said "full size Amiga" and not "Full size A500" I prefer the A500, but I'll take an A1200. Assuming they do that right (ie full Workbench 3.x) it could be awesome.
They might copyright strike you but that would be counterproductive. You are POSITIVE about the product and reporting their video for them.... It's great they are coming out with new stuff like this, those who don't like it don't have to buy it.
I haven’t watched the video yet, and I’m gonna make the mistake of posting beforehand. Why would anybody trust Atari, or whoever owns a target at this point, to do anything right?
Nothing I can't get with an emulator, and I'm not willing to give Infogrames my money. No one in Atari nowadays is in any way connected with the people who made the console and the games.
@@TheLairdsLairthat's interesting. I thought there was zero connection too. Thanks for the info Mr Laird, you're a gentleman and a scholar to be sure.
This nothing more than an emulation box, like the cheap Android TV boxes. A Rockchip 3128, first released back in Jurassic 2014. If they wanted a more realistic cash grab, then bundling hundreds of original games on something like a CD/DVD for the purposes of legal emulation on any hardware would likely have many people buying at a £$10 kind of price.
Think you're missing the point. Yes this is "emulation" but it's a box that allows you to utilize original cartridges on modern TV's. There are hundreds of thousands of 2600 and 7800 cartridges out there. These consoles let you use them (even if it is just dumping the cart rom to ram).
I'm interested, but I was kind of hoping we'd get the 7800 complatible controllers that I can use for my 2600+. I never had a 7800 so I might get this, but there needs to be more than just 'wireless' to make that happen.

I wish Atari would run that video as a TV ad, especially with a thumping tune.
I considered getting the 2600+, but never pulled that trigger. I'm definitely going to have to get my hands on this one.
me too.

I LOVED Bounty Bob Strikes Back on the 800XL... trying to mess with cheat codes and it teliling me off haha what a childhood fun times ;O)

The 7800+ and the 2600+ are the same system. Just different cases.
7800+ is getting firmware update on release , no mention of 2600+ firmware . Because Atari is holding out.
I still haven't unboxed my 2600+

Sad. Without keeping the quality up they lose their separation from AtGames.
Didn't you try it? Beta v1.1 is supposed to fix PAL issues.
Was fixed ages ago. Works great now.
Fixed now.

Ooh I've played a demo of the Bentley game, it was formerly a homebrew they've obviously signed. It was, not bad.
I think Atari may need to make a completely new console but using cartridges for a modern unique console
If Atari makes an actual Jaguar controller (usb) and or bluetooth for emulation that would be nice and I would be happy with fake Atari for once.

Does it have the high score card for the 9 games that have that ability?
Hopefully, we don't know all the features yet.
just pre ordered it for 129 us dollars.
Is the Intellivision+ next??????
I do wonder this myself.
How about a 5200+ add on cartridge adapter that's compatible with 2600+ & 7800+
The problem is you'd need new controllers too
It's the 2600+ with a 7800 shell and different controllers. There, saved you 18 minutes.
Can you use other wireless controllers
No idea, it's not out yet!
5200 please
Its just a new shell pretty much.
But... Is it not just the same product as the 2600+ but in the 7800 case? Cause both do the exact same thing....
Not quite, as this supports wireless controllers.

its a 2600+
