Thanks, this was enough for me to replace a screen on m MacBook Air. I had initial trouble with hinge screws loosening, but I put a tiny bit of penetrating oil and a few light taps and they came undone easily.
Worked PERFECTLY i bought a broken mac book air 2020 on offer up and followed this exactly and everything worked! Thank you sm and man those screws are FRAGILE! The keys light up the screen is perfect, there is no serial number configuration its just replace and use. Thank you for everything, i got my new screen for $310.

2018 and 2019 displays are not fully compatible because they added True Tone in July 2019. A 2018 screen on a July+ 2019 or 2020 model will work as a display, but the camera and True Tone won't work.

Outstanding video. Thank you. This was the second time I replaced the screen on this particular Macbook Air 2020 with the A2179 screen. Unfortunately, this time we had a microphone related problem after screen replacement and I don't know if the two are related. On video sessions, the remote party (not on the Macbook) hears an echo of their voice consistently. We've tried calls on multiple devices and the problem is consistent. Wondering if you have any idea if the microphone problem is related to the screen replacement in any way?
Just wanted to confirm that this worked for my 2020 a2179. Had to buy the rose gold version of the a1932 from eBay and no hick ups

Hi, what screw drivers do I need? especially, T3?
A tiny clear bead had fell onto my MacBook Air keyboard without me knowing and I had shut the lid. It wasn’t till I opened it that I saw all these vertical n horizontal lines and was confused as the outer screen looked normal. Then I found the bead. Turns out this has cracked the lcd screen which costs a lot to repair. I am unsure wether to go third party or Apple as I know Apple will have the right things but they will charge me a fortune. Honestly it’s so annoying bc I’ve only had it 2 months and have been super careful with it so for something so small to damage it this much I feel like it was out of my hands litterally

Does the brightness work correctly? I saw people saying that without reprogramming the serial number of the screen the brightness will only go to 50% and possibly other functionality may be lost. just wondering . not sure if any of that is true. Also, thanks for the current content, I've always been everyone I know's go to tech fixer so I'm jumping in and starting a repair shop but I'm currently increasing my knowledge base and any current content is priceless and very much appreciated. You do not need to reprogram anything for the brightness setting. It will work normally after replacement

Hello, I have a 2020 MacBook Air, A2179 in the video you stated you can use 2018-2019 screens. Is that okay for long term use or would you recommend buying the 2020 lcd screen?

Yes, the difference is the 2020 screen has true tone, the 2018 and 2019 won't have it

@@lapfix the 2019 models DID have True Tone starting in July 2019. It makes it tricky, because pre-July models need the old screen and post-July models need the newer screen.
Is the screen replacement for MacBook Air M1 (A2337) the same as in this video?
It is very similar, we just repaired a liquid spill m1 air a2337. We replaced the lcd and trackpad in it! The video will be uploaded very soon so look out for it!

@Jovi Horst From the review of this repair, you need the TRUE TONE feature to retain the keyboard backlight. This is available on the original display assembly. Offshore you can find OEM display assemblies and also the original (higher costs).
I have the 2020 macbook pro 13inch. My stupid nephew took a heat gun and heated up my screen. Is there a possibility it could of melted the screen? Are the displays plastic or glass?

Has to be M1 2020 a2337 only. The intel ones will NOT work

LG makes great IPS displays. One with a USB-C connection (for charging and display) would be optimal

Can I just replace the screen glass with a heat gun? Not the whole lcd? I’ve got a tiny crack in the top left corner in the black part of the screen
Yes, be careful as it is very easy to damage the screen with that method
@@lapfix Are you able to do a video if you find one with cracked glass? It's not an M1, it's a macbook air Intel 2020 A2179 - I haven't seen any videos with this 2020 version.

Thanks! I used this video to replace my screen twice (yep I broke it twice, doh!), and it worked perfectly for the display. However, I haven't been able to get the inbuilt camera working after either replacement. The macbook says there is no camera connected when I go to facetime or photo booth, any ideas what could possibly be the problem there?

The camera module is part of the display assembly, most likely it is defective
I'm hoping to get my screen replaced because there's 3 dead ants stuck in my lcd screen :( I'm thinking of reselling my laptop when the 2nd m1 chip macs come out so I really hope they could fix this. I asked a couple of third party repair shops, and they all declined my repair because apparently it would be difficult to replace the screen. ;/ Thank you for giving me hope that its still fixable >.<

@@lapfix I had this checked by Apple already, and there were no signs of food or liquid damage inside, the techs/engineers were thinking that the ants may have just been 'attracted' to the warmer temp / light from the laptop. Unfortunately this isn't covered by the warranty anymore so I'll have my laptop checked again tomorrow to ask for an estimate for the cost of the repair.

Same thing happened to me, a tiny bug died INSIDE the screen, I pressed it thinking it was just dirt but no, it wasn't, so it's there, dead and squished right in the middle of the screen... Warranty has just finished on mine, and I'm unlucky enough to live in Brazil where customer support basically doesn't exist... Never have I been so mad at a laptop, especially one made by Apple, worst purchase ever. :(

If the connection looks ok, most likely there is a bad camera in the replacement you got

Hellllo, those are the front camera/backlight connectors. There are one on each side. They are unnecessary to remove as any replacement will come with them already attached to the lcd board anyway.
@@lapfix thanks, I was hoping it was the keyboard backlight. Do you know if there's a cable for that too? I somehow disabled my backlight when I replaced the display.
Great video. My only critique is that you should put the microphone closer to your mouth. Where you have a naturally nasal tone (not knocking you, I have one too) your speech already sounds muffled... add to that the distance between the mic and your mouth, and accounting for the pop filter on the mic tip, and yeah... it's just really hard to understand you at normal audio levels on a desktop, home theater setup.

Apple is going to charge a fortune unless you have AppleCare. Your best bet is to find a compatible screen replacement online and have it repaired by a repair shop near you.

I just tried a A2337 on a A2179 and it doesn't work can anyone else confirm as well ?
a1932 screen will work on a2179; the a2337 is the m1 version and it won't be compatible. Even though it is almost exactly the same looks wise and dimensions -.-
