I used to go with my father to a gamestore in Vlissingen. That was in the early 90's, lets say 1991 or 1992. That's a ride of 20 minutes by bike. We go there to rent this Robocop-game. It was a hard game, but I enjoyed it. When I saw this again, it remind me of that; the nice bike-rides with my father to rent this game. Really miss those days, but now I make some of those memory's not with my father, but with my son. Peace from the Netherlands
Sertor84 same. It took me several tries to get passed level 4 and *BAM* finally passed level 4. It even got harder in later levels. Not to mention it took me several tries to beat the game.
I can't stand the criminal ID level. It's interesting, but you only get 40 seconds to match 6 facial aspects. Some of them look very similar, and on the GBA-sp/GBC, the original and the picture you are building are different colors so it makes it even harder. I wish they would have just given unlimited time for that part or at least 2 minutes or something. Why only 40 seconds?!
I am impressed how closely this follows the movie but also how accurate to the arcade this is compared to the not so arcade faithful NES port. Go Robo!!!
@@Renzo-cn4zw this game has nothing on Battletoads. You just have to draw out enemies before you go down elevators. They don't respawn here so if you take them out ahead of time it's much easier.

Yeah this is a very hard game. It took me a long time to beat this game. This is when I was a kid & when it 1st came out on the original black & white Gameboy. Now I can beat this no problem in 1 sitting as an adult. You're that much better as an adult when you go back to replay these retro games.
This Game Boy port was developed and published by Ocean of America. This port is the NES port of the 1988 Data East arcade game, based on the 1987 movie of the same name, with stages/levels inspired by those from the coin-op, but also new gameplay elements, with a few spites of the arcade version thrown in.
13:51 It's like robocop flips the bird after getting that awkward guy. Plus a lot of the elements of this game are very similar to Batman the Movie that followed. The platform design. The diagonal shooters. Ducking shots. Punching and body checking. All pretty much the same. And the ID fit part is also in the Batman game.
Oh, the memories. I remember playing Robocop on my Gameboy when I was in the Army. Just paid for Robocop Rogue City Alex Murphy Edition for the PS5. It releases 48 hours early (10/31/23).
I remember that gun 19:44. I also remember that I figured out some kind of lag when you equip the gun and continue to punch enemies, you’ll all of a sudden end up with 99 ammo.
I finished the game, but it was really difficult !! Most particularly lvl 4 (identity lvl) (difficult to switch with the parts of the face) and the lvl 9 (in the junkyard) (there is no Power in this stage to help you...) PS : you have a super hint on this lvl 9 !! At the end, use the big weapon dropped by the ennemy to shoot on the robot Dick Jones at the final end !! It will kill him in only one shoot !! XD
@@HllywHulk91 lol In that case you might have the wrong face. When you have the last facial feature chosen and confirmed, submission is automatic, unless one or more features are wrong. Do note that some features such as ears and chins, can be quite similar.
I remember I had this game but sold it I think. I also remember being disappointed that you couldn't shoot through the woman's dress (afaik?) in that hostage segment.
This is one of the American games I played as a kid. (Other than that, Turtles, Batman, etc.) I remember getting nervous during the phase of creating a criminal montage. So, as everyone says, music is excellent.
Was that vertical transition at 0:59 ever used in any of the trailers for the movies? I very distinctly remember seeing a trailer for (sigh) Robocop 3 in the theater and being thrilled by it using that particular transition. However, none of the trailers you can look up have it. It was a short teaser. I think they actually modeled it after this game, which seems like such a strange thing to do, but trust me, it was awesome!
To be fair Codedtestament, it is a Gameboy game, and only two buttons are used. One thing you failed to mention is just how difficult this game really is.
For anyone wondering about the voice samples in the game: Its only on the Japanese version that you hear the voice samples. And the game does freeze on stage 4 of the face recognition if you use an emulator. Or you could buy the Game, its requires a lot of dedication and time if you wish to finish the game this way.
I just sat down with this game using my super Game boy on a 37" CRT and was able to play through it in one night. This game is absolutely brutal! The face match scene was very difficult and I failed at a few times. The later stages are just agonizingly hard. I almost gave up several times and I actually made it to the last boss once and died and trudged through the last level again and finally beat him only to see a lame ending. Decent but not great game but I am happy to say I have finished it.
In all the years I owned this game I could never make it past the facial reconstruction stage. For whatever reason I could never seem to get the exactly right match. Crappy dark monochrome screen often made it impossible to tell the particular details - particularly where it came to getting the right nose and ear shape, and I couldn't figure out how to go back to a section to change it.
I can't get a working ROM of this game, it always crashes at the start of level 4 (identity level). What ROM are you using and from where? It's also missing the speech.
Xyphoe I used to play this game as a kid. I ALWAYS lost at the end of level 4, the identity level. I got the two faces to look equal, but no matter what I did, I always lost. Do yo know why that is?

hi
awesome story. This was a blast of nostalgia for myself as well.
That is sweet. It's things like that we need to restore hope and culture in this world.
I never knew you could rent GB games.
Game was waaayyyy harder than it looks!!
Why did you press start. I was listening to that
😂😂😂😂 I think we’ve said that once back in the days

I used to leave it on the music for ages when I was a kid. Great piece of music
Shut up
yeah I’d leave it on … and on … and on …

yeah boy because this game was very hard like battletoads and contra

Up there with 1942's one white word on a black screen: "Congratulation"
Had this on my Original Game Boy back in the early 90's.
This music is even better than I remember, damn- drop those beats!
Ha
The music is illegally good for a game boy game haha
