Thanks everyone for coming along! Make sure you follow me on IG / Tiktok: @mathew_mckenna - I've been making content on TikTok that I think is hilarious!
Yeah a part two is DEFINITELY coming lol. Even with K12, there's still so many amazing songs from CryBaby that solidified her artistry. Mr. Potatohead, Soap, Alphabet Boy, etc. If you didn't know, her albums are visual albums that tell a whole connected story in order!
The Crybaby album tells a story if you listen in order. In fact, there's a storybook too! Crybaby- The character is born. She has a big heart, but she's already feeling damaged at a young age because the people around her don't care. Dollhouse- You hit the nail on the head with this meaning. She's still kind of young and is observing the chaotic life of her family. Sippy Cup- "What goes down in the kitchen" from Dollhouse is the main issue here. Her mom gets sick of her dad constantly cheating on her, so she kills him in the kitchen. Carousel- The boy she was with was her first love. It felt magical and amazing simply because it's her first time being in love, but it wasn't really a good situation. The boy didn't really reciprocate. To her, it feels like whenever she moves closer, he backs away. Alphabet Boy- She realizes the situation she's in and cuts it off with that boy. The whole song is her singing about how she's sick of people infantilizing her and trying to "teach" her things she already knows. Soap- She meets a new boy, Johnny, and falls for him. She's afraid she'll scare him away, so when she's tempted to say "I love you", she washes her mouth out with soap like she's said a swear word. Training Wheels- She's just like "ah, fuck it" and starts expressing how she wants more out of the relationship. Pity Party- She does go feral because no one came to her party, but what really drives her up a wall is that Johnny didn't come. She has indeed scared him away. Tag, You're It- The ice cream man that comes by her neighborhood has noticed how lonely and sad she is. One day, he kidnaps her and takes her back to his home. Milk and Cookies- She comes to in his house and sees that he's left a note saying that she needs to make him cookies. She poisons the cookies and escapes while the ice cream man is writhing on the floor. Pacify Her- She isn't actually in love with the blue boy. She just wants to play with their hearts. However, he goes with his original girlfriend because she has a better body. Mrs. Potato Head- Because of that, she's wondering if her body is wrong in some way and wants to change it. But one day she's watching TV, and on comes a frightful story about a woman who got plastic surgery and regretted it. Mad Hatter- She's convinced- she's fine the way she is! She's found friends that accept her and all of her craziness, and she's doing better now that she has someone to navigate life with.
This is so true, but I just wanna add that Melanie claims that Alphabet Boy was also originally for an ex of hers who always tried to tell her how to write her music and stuff. I really liked this explanation of the album I never knew it had a whole story! :D
I relate to carousel because once I had a crush on a boy in sixth grade and let's just say he didn't really appreciate me that much we just remain friends and I stop having a crush on him when I in seventh grade

Fun fact. Melanie is an Alto. And my music teacher told me I can’t sing well because I’m alto. My music teacher would never let people see an alto because she also does choir. So I sighed up and I was in choir. But when we had to sing Christmas carols. I had sung a Christmas carol really well. And all I got was to stand behind the piano and say “DiNg DoNg DiNg DoNg” Edit: Thank you so much for the likes! And I forgot too say that my music teacher would put altos behind the piano so they couldn’t be seen.
I literally got detention for humming in class. Not kidding. It was so annoying and my mom got mad too because I’ve always been very musical and I sang and hummed a lot so it was a natural thing for me to do. Like sometimes I don’t even realize I’m humming, and I got detention for it.
Melanie Martinez is that kind of artist that gets glued in your head, and no matter what happens and how many years have past, you will always have her songs stuck in your head. I relate her and Troye Sivan together in a way because of that. His blue neighbourhood album will forever be in my mind
I love Melanie martinez so much. Please react to her new album called "K-12". She also made it a movie so you could watch that on TH-cam if you want to
The line in doll house about what goes down in the kitchen is actually referring to another song she wrote called sippy cup. Spoiler: in sippy cup it talks about what does go down in the kitchen, murder. The mom kills women her husband is seeing and give crybaby a sippy cup that makes her forget what she just saw.
These are some songs I recommend also listening to: -Mrs. Potato Head -Mad Hatter -Soap/Training Wheels -Show & Tell -High School Sweethearts -Drama Club
@@MathewMcKenna I didn't realize I was that early but I'm impressed with myself. After watching I recommend some songs off her new album K-12, it's a concept album with its own movie but she touches on a lot of modern issues that many don't touch on in music.
am i the only one who loves the fact he was so understanding and actually listened to the songs instead of just looking at the vid and beeing like "aAa sHe S sO WeIrD aNd CrEepYYYyYy" like many other youtubers do?

This man needs more recognition. I appreciate if you’ve read my comment, have a good day/night.
Her first album is a concept album centered around the character crybaby so it’s kind of the sort of the thing you have to watch in a certain order to understand certain aspects of it; the crybaby album focuses in on a lot of dark stuff including complicated/toxic relationships, stalking and rape and society’s obsession with looking perfect and how it can lead to more ruin than what you started from; the k-12 album she said was meant to be darker than crybaby and I think the movie of it really achieved a much more disturbing factor than crybaby imo; k-12 is centered around crybaby as well but she’s older now and attending a corrupt school; the album/movie addresses bullying, power abuse, transphobia, only ever being seen for one thing and the stereotypes it comes with, bulimia, and manipulation
Part of Pity party’s chorus actually samples a popular old song from the 60s called it’s my party by Lesley gore “it’s my party and I’ll cry if want to cry if I want to”
Oh another fun fact, When she filmed dollhouse she wasn’t really as famous I mean she was on the voice but anyways her friends actually helped her with most of the video ( hair props etc)
Dollhouse hits close to home with me because i didnt have a great childhood but its also the first Melanie song i was ever introduced to. She makes alot of songs that describe difficult situations and her music is really comforting to the people who relate to them
I love how unique she is, from her music to her personality, and how she doesn’t just write a song and that’s it, she puts a lot of effort in the story of her songs, and in k-12 she talks about many important topics, she is sooo inspiring to me, idk, I just love her💕
Fun fact, Melanie died her hair half and half, because her favorite movie as a kid was the 101 Dalmatians so she died it like cruela devil. ( I don’t think I spelt that right but whatever) Edit: I really need to learn how to spell😐
Dollhouse. meanig. HeRe We Go!!!! dollhouse is made of how people think that celebraties are perfect. but if they make one mistake everybody is attacking them. even tho we make mistakes to. thats what she is saying. take this line: "throw on your dress, and put on your doll faces" it means that celebraties have to look great 24/7 and always have there doll face on. And if they dont people think its wierd bc they expect them to always wear over the top clothes and make-up. sorry for my English. hope you can still read it ( idk you prop can't )
This song is actually about crybaby and her dysfunctional family. The meaning you were saying is more related to Melanie’s song show and tell, and the meaning behind those lyrics is that Melanie feels how people expect her to be a certain way and people don’t get how we’re all human, imperfect and make mistakes. So she feels people are treating her differently bc she’s in the public eye and it’s the same with other celebrities. I hope you understand that bc I didn’t really know how to explain but you can just listen to the song and see what she means. The meaning of dollhouse is how people think her family appears perfect but behind closed doors everything is falling apart and crybaby is the only who notices the damage. As you hear from the lyrics “D-o-l-l-h-o-u-s-e I see things that no body else sees” and “please don’t let them look through the curtains” so her mom is an alcoholic who drinks to deal with and forget the fact the husband is cheating and having affairs with many other woman and the brother is now doing drugs. This was really long so if you read this thank you :)
Her newer album she released a movie with it on TH-cam. It was very well produced, whether you react to it for TH-cam or not it’s definitely worth a watch, I was never a big fan of her but after watching her album movie it made me appreciate the art that she produces.
Melanie was also a teenager during this album. Her voice grows so much more throughout each album❤ Edit: you should also listen to PORTALS now since it’s been released, it’s absolutely amazing💜💜
I don't know how Pacify Her didn't do it for him. It has the fiercest hook out of the whole album. The bass hits really hard if you listen on speakers.
Personally for me her voice is so soft and kind. I went to her trilogy tour recently and she sounded so more professional then she did when she released her Crybaby album
Tbh he seems to actually get it, that it's all a metaphor for often harsh subjects. Nice to see someone that does tbh and doesn't just look at the surface
Dollhouse is genuinely one of my favourite songs. It's not overly cryptic and doesn't require much of an understanding of references or anything like that, but it also doesn't just state everything outright in a way that let's the audience feel smart without having to google every other word, and the tune is one that is easily attuned to, but still stands out.
I appreciate when you share how you can personally relate to the lyrics or when the song triggers something inside you. You understand her style and lyrical genius well. I also find it amazing that you can break down the production of each song, makes your reactions gold.
Melanie's first album "Cry Baby" is a concept album that revolves around her character of the same name, whom she describes as her alter ego. The songs are ordered chronologically and tell the story of Cry Baby (the character). Her family life, love life, story of abuse & killing her abuser, her relationship with beauty standards and cosmetic surgeries and her struggles with mental illness. Melanie has made it clear that she hasn't experienced some of the stuff she talks about in her music (i.e. being kidnapped and abused), and that she simply wants to tell a story in order to raise awareness. Her second album "K-12" comes with an accompanying feature film that she wrote and directed herself. It's based on school, which in the movie's storyline & song lyrics stands as a metaphor for life. The topics she tackles are broader than Cry Baby, and Melanie doesn't hesitate to get a little bit more personal in this record; talking about celebrities being idolized, overworked and then thrown away, the importance of mental health and keeping your head space clear, abusive authorities and inconsiderate people who only use artists for money. Perhaps some of the heaviest topics she talks about in the album are the story of abuse involving a student-teacher relationship in the song "Teacher's Pet"; the sexualization & objectification of women who show and are proud of their bodies, and yet the condemnation surrounding women who are unsure of their bodies in "Strawberry Shortcake"; and lastly, the topic of bulimia and self image in "Orange Juice".
Melanie: were always this close me about to say: almost, almost... Mathew: *Interupts* IM SO UNSATISFIED NOW. (nice vid btw and uhm i cant believe this is your first time listening to her:0)
For someone who is a huge fan of Melanie, tbh I was kind of jamming out through most of the vid. Also if you didn't know, there's a story behind each song and they follow Melanie's character Crybaby through her life. I really liked the video tho😁
OMG I WAS WAITING FOR THIS. you should definitely do a part 2, mel is amazing honestly, her music has always been like a safe place for me, anytime i felt like i I couldn't handle anything, i knew i had her music
Fun Fact! The song Carousel was actually used in teaser trailers for the TV show American Horror Story and its season at the time Freak Show, which makes sense cause her music video relates to the season of AHS
I love how he acknowledged the actual music, and lyrics instead of just paying attention to her style- also I believe that two songs in the album are kinda connected?
So this is my first vid of his. And i love how much he digs into it. Melanie uses her art for it to he cathartic and what kind of parallels in our lives from a childish stand point. I LOVE MELANIE. And i love your honesty with this. I highly suggest k-12! I would love to see your break down of it
Welcome to the CRYBABY fandom! :) I saw Mel in the title and got so excited that someone new is listening to her songs. So, I clicked on the video. I see you have a video on Conan too and I'm heading there rn. I suggest listening to her K-12 album as well. But if you'd like song recommendations: For crybaby, my favs are Pity party (you've already heard it), cake, dollhouse(you've already heard this), SOAP, 'tag, you're it', crybaby and mad hatter. For K-12 (I honestly like all the songs but these are my fav) : OJ, Class fight, lunchbox friends, detention, nurse's office, strawberry shortcake, copycat... and drama club! YAP! (don't bash me forgetting some songs, but as I said, these are just my favourites) Y'all crybabies reading this can suggest other songs for the newbie. :) You know what, just listen to all her songs. They're so good!
Suggestions for part 2, 3 and 4: 2. - Sippy Cup, the sequel to Dollhouse, what goes down in the kitchen. - Alphabet Boy, the sequel to Carousel - Mrs. Potato Head, her best song periodt. - Teddy Bear 3. - Soap/Training Wheels double feature - Tag You're it/Milk and Cookies double feature 4. - Bittersweet Tragedy - Show and Tell - High School Sweethearts - Copy Cat
No her mum kills her husband and her husband’s girlfriend/person she is seeing and crybaby sees it so get mum gives her a Sippy cup which makes her forget everything that she just saw it’s the song Sippy cup
If someone would react to Melanie, always start at the very beginning. All of her songs are placed exactly in order, starting from her song "Crybaby". Her new album is a movie.
i love melanie martinez...here’s my story so i like artist but i never stay to like them i usually move on but when i started listening to her i was hooked. every song has a strong meaning and it all connects to this persona “crybaby” so i think she’s the best person i’ve ever seen making music
So this girl releases a whole ass ALBUM and a MOVIE FOR FREE in September 2019... for this dude to watch songs from 5 years ago.... I mean you could've switched it up a bit? Like 2 songs from her beginning days and 2 songs from her new album K-12? I hope Part 2 comes where you watch the movie or look at the newer songs because I got kind of irritated you listened to all her slow ones while criticizing her soft voice..
If your tryna spread hate like that shit read this:you really tryna hate on domeone for picking their own stuff to listen to dude stfu its rude eben if its yOuR opinion
@@haylee2667 i actually agree with him/her. Melanie's voice isn't one of those "Ariana Grande" voices, it's soft because that's her signature voice. Please leave her and her opinion alone lmao.
This made me so happy, today I wasn’t in a good mood at all and I haven’t listened to Melanie in a while, however it cheered me up you listening to her because she will always be my favourite artist to me. It was nostalgic. Dollhouse helped me at a lot in the past, I was being bullied and experienced abuse from my chaotic family before Melanie I felt like I had to put on this facade and smile through the pain pretending I was ok, I would listen to music I didn’t like just because it was popular and to get along with people, I felt really lonely and misunderstood so when I heard dollhouse starting playing on the radio and started getting quite famous online I listened to it and fell in love, it was relatable to me and it actually sounded good instead of those sappy love songs about the same girl with vague descriptions and sounded the same. Not hating on pop it’s just a few artists kinds seems unoriginal. I also made lots of online friends just by liking Melanie. She truly means a lot to me
I’m happy more people people are discovering her music! Melanie is my fav singer and she has another album called K-12. That’s also good. Plus she made a movie with it
I mean. Her newer album might be more your speed if what you’re looking for is lyrical meaning. There is definitely a change from these songs to the newer ones

And principle and wheels on the bus and show and tell and my fav nurses office
Part of Pity party’s chorus actually samples a popular old song from the 60s called it’s my party by Lesley gore “it’s my party and I’ll cry if want to cry if I want to”

Oh another fun fact,
When she filmed dollhouse she wasn’t really as famous I mean she was on the voice but anyways her friends actually helped her with most of the video ( hair props etc)
And the song was released after her cry baby song to give more info about her daily life
you should’ve listened to it in order hjshshshhehejejw

Dollhouse hits close to home with me because i didnt have a great childhood but its also the first Melanie song i was ever introduced to. She makes alot of songs that describe difficult situations and her music is really comforting to the people who relate to them
'shes got a softer voice than i expected'
well...
I love how unique she is, from her music to her personality, and how she doesn’t just write a song and that’s it, she puts a lot of effort in the story of her songs, and in k-12 she talks about many important topics, she is sooo inspiring to me, idk, I just love her💕
Same
Him: I like her bow
Jojo siwa: here take mine instead
LOL
She is one of my favourite music artists.
Fun fact, Melanie died her hair half and half, because her favorite movie as a kid was the 101 Dalmatians so she died it like cruela devil. ( I don’t think I spelt that right but whatever)
Edit: I really need to learn how to spell😐
Dyed 😳
Cruella deville i think
Yeah she dyed it when she was 16 i think
Dyed* Lol
Here let me correct it Fun fact Melanie dyed her hair half and half because she was inspired by the villain from 101 Dalmatians cruella de vel
Dollhouse.
That seems more fitting for show and tell actually
I think you should react to some of her more recent songs, k-12. You might like them more!

GB2023 NatalieL aye two Natalies
Wow a string of natalies
Her newer album she released a movie with it on TH-cam. It was very well produced, whether you react to it for TH-cam or not it’s definitely worth a watch, I was never a big fan of her but after watching her album movie it made me appreciate the art that she produces.
Melanie was also a teenager during this album. Her voice grows so much more throughout each album❤
Edit: you should also listen to PORTALS now since it’s been released, it’s absolutely amazing💜💜
Wasnt she 20 or 19?
@@flqras yea? She was still a teen, and young. At 18 you're considered an adult, but your still technically a teen until you reach 20.
if he needs that drop that he was talking about then he MUST listen to mad hatter
Crybaby Martinez YES YES HE NEEDS TO LISTEN TO IT
I don't know how Pacify Her didn't do it for him. It has the fiercest hook out of the whole album. The bass hits really hard if you listen on speakers.
She is real and talks about subjects that other people can't get started on,!!!!!
Amen!
Personally for me her voice is so soft and kind. I went to her trilogy tour recently and she sounded so more professional then she did when she released her Crybaby album
Her song sippy cup pretty much explains what “goes down in the kitchen”
I feel like he should have been told about her aesthetic and stuff. Cuz then maybe he would have understood more
Tbh he seems to actually get it, that it's all a metaphor for often harsh subjects.
To bad he didn’t listen to any of her new songs :/
Yeah
New songs?, which ones?
Redacted .mp3 • 6 years ago. like- k-12 maybe?
Her crybaby songs are better, but k-12 was also great.
@@redacted.mp3243 K-12
Pacify her was the saddest song melanie created because of the ending and meanings of the lyrics

A song i recommend if you want to hear her voice go a bit high is "Recess" from her album K-12.

Fun Fact! The song Carousel was actually used in teaser trailers for the TV show American Horror Story and its season at the time Freak Show, which makes sense cause her music video relates to the season of AHS

u gotta listen to k-12. the lyrics are really good & she made a movie! its so cool.
If you listen to it in order it tells a story, and most of her songs lyrics are very deep.
I love how he acknowledged the actual music, and lyrics instead of just paying attention to her style-
also I believe that two songs in the album are kinda connected?

The music Carousel was used in American Horror Story, the Freak Show Season
So this is my first vid of his. And i love how much he digs into it. Melanie uses her art for it to he cathartic and what kind of parallels in our lives from a childish stand point. I LOVE MELANIE. And i love your honesty with this. I highly suggest k-12! I would love to see your break down of it
Welcome to the CRYBABY fandom! :)
I saw Mel in the title and got so excited that someone new is listening to her songs.
YAP! (don't bash me forgetting some songs, but as I said, these are just my favourites)
Y'all crybabies reading this can suggest other songs for the newbie.
:)
You know what, just listen to all her songs. They're so good!
I agree! But some people misread the title and are hating on him now :/
Suggestions for part 2, 3 and 4:
2. - Sippy Cup, the sequel to Dollhouse, what goes down in the kitchen.
- Alphabet Boy, the sequel to Carousel
- Mrs. Potato Head, her best song periodt.
- Teddy Bear
3. - Soap/Training Wheels double feature
- Tag You're it/Milk and Cookies double feature
4. - Bittersweet Tragedy
- Show and Tell
- High School Sweethearts
- Copy Cat

-Alphabet Boy
-Copycat
-Tag you're it
-Milk and cookies
-Mad Hatter

She truly means a lot to me
In pity party, it was supposed to mean that he invited her boyfriend over to her birthday party, when he didn't come she threw a pity party.🤨
yeah, it’s about her inviting her friends and boyfriend to her bday party and they don’t come
