    I’m in the CCC program and I’m happy to be apart of the crew I’m in and it’s crazy to see how bad the aftermath is . We’re camping there for 8 days to help clean up trails , cut down any necessary trees and help bring back the park back to life 💪🏽

    Fire crews were thinned out across the state. They couldn’t get planes over the fires because the smoke was billowing so bad the pilots would have no vision. I don’t think anybody was ready for the freak lightning storm we got. Very good memories in the Santa Cruz area. Sorry for your loses very tragic. Let’s get through 2020 together

    Boulder Creek was my home as a kid in the 60's and 70's. I lived on the river two blocks behind the BCFD station. Hate to see the community suffer and have losses like they did. Great memories of the area, playing golf at the golf course, riding my motorcycle all over the mountain trails, HS in Felton - great times. Hate to see the destruction.

      If they were woken up by the Camp Fire then not all their hard work is gone since they would have gotten fire insurance. At least then they would have something to start over with. Before you think that i'm cold or an ass you should know that my parents live above the Boulder Creek Golf and Country Club and almost lost their house, their neighborhood was hit form 3 sides. They also lost a house in Paradise and I had friends evacuated from both fires. My heart goes out to the people that lost their houses but i hope that the got the insurance that they needed to.

      They had 22 fires in the Butano state park area and big basin area. Believe me, they were trying there best to put them out. No out of county resources for the first 4 or 5 days due to the 1000+ other lightning fires in the state. Sorry for any loss that may have occurred but I can tell you they were trying their best with no sleep for 72 hours straight.

    • @scooper72
      @scooper72 4 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      Living trees are more fire-resistant than houses. Houses may be ignited by flying embers, even if the flames on the ground aren’t close.

    • @Sovereign_Citizen_LEO
      @Sovereign_Citizen_LEO 4 ปีที่แล้ว

      Trees (especially Redwoods, Fir, and others) have thick layers of fire resistant bark layer sometimes up to a foot thick, as well as tannins in this layer. Trees also contain a lot more moisture compared to dry wood buildings, grass, chaparral, etc.

    Nobody is talking about this - right there in the middle of all these fires is the Santa Cruz Naval Industrial Ordinance plant. It's a very secretive facility that stores thousands of decommissioned plutonium cores for nuclear warheads - mostly for Trident SLBMs.

    The defensible fire space has always been a problem in this area, it may look all wonderful green and foresty but combined with residential, it was a matter of time for this incident to happen. I pray no lives were lost.

    The Thunder People came dancing, and left the fires in their wake...there have always been fires of this magnitude along the Coastal Mountains of California, just as there has always been droughts. I agree, this should have had planning and better preparation and task forcing. Given the amount of taxes folks pay there, I would have expected such. Those who worked hard to protect are Heroes.

  • @chrisw.3077

    We need to stop with “this fire is so terrible”. This was/is not a terrible fire. It was a grass fire that gave CAL FIRE a license to neuter residents who with a little preparedness could’ve saved their own homes. That’s why this fire was terrible. Notice how no areas beyond sites where homes were are “devastated”? I see green bushes for gods sake. These houses are burning because of flying embers, not because they were overrun with fire.

    • @happyraccoon4791
      @happyraccoon4791 4 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      Right. And our home in Paradise didn't burn by luck. Neighbor too. He has a pool and couldn't use it. Never crossed his mind. I saw zero pools used in Paradise and CZU. One news story shows Bonny Doon residents upset after Cal Fire crew refused to hook up to their 15,000 tank. They drove away, gave them zip. San Lorenzo Water District put a plastic pipe on the ground. Four+ miles melted and dumped 4.5 Million gallons of water on the ground. I watched Cal Fire reignite the Aspen Fire, on the San Joaquin, in 2013 and play for two weeks. In 2005? A Mr Gray appeared on Last Chance Rd. In the summer he tried to light "controlled burns". He was confronted and repulsed twice. His burn permit number was expired. And I have other stories.

      Joshua Kuehn bingo. They inflate the acreage numbers expecting they’ll get more money to fight the fires next year and the year after. The burn scars don’t match the advertised size of these fires.
