- A six-year-old Chinese-American boy is being called a piano prodigy, after beating out thousands of applicants from around the world in a prestigious musical competition this year. Winning the prize got him to New York's famed Carnegie Hall where he was among the youngest to perform. CGTN's Karina Huber reports.

@@lehallway9773 Yes, you are right. “Smoke cannot exist without fire, and stereotypes cannot exist without truth”. The thing is, in today’s society, these assumptions come from people who make erroneous fundamental attributed observations of these people and come to a conclusion about their personal lives, personalities, traits, et cetera. And like in this case, there is the assumption (derived from some truth) that Asian kids are good at everything because they a forced to do it. But we see it as a prejudicial generalisation.

not only a question of belief but how many can buy musical instruments and afford music lessons, not all that many, especially a 20k piano

@@jonathandaddario5386 Actually, it should inspire and encourage anyone to magnify the talents that they have or can acquire. This applies to those that play the piano and those that don't. If one idea doesn't work, that's okay, try another! Don't give up. Do things in balance. There is a little bit of genius in all of us! Passion and endurance can bring that out in everyone! When I was growing up the best I got was a roof over my head which was a trailer. When it came to food I got lot of mac&cheese , fish sticks mostly cause that's all mom could afford. My dad was a truck driver so he was on the road most of the time. He took most of the money with him so he could eat steak and stuff like that.
But when he came home he wanted steak to eat. Now here is the kicker he never left mom enough money for mom to buy things like that.
The best memory I had with dad was when I was a teenager. He took me on the road with him on the semi-truck couple times. That's really the only thing I got cause like 10 years later he passed away from cancer.

Although a 20k piano forma child that age suggests that they do quite well financially as there are many families in the US that don’t have that much per year to spend on all purchases. Just saying...

AlohaLivin now that’s stating the obvious! On the other hand, if they are from China, chances are they are only allowed one child. That rule changed only a few years ago I think. So of course they would put everything they could into his upbringing.
Even if he weren't a prodigy, it's so sweet that his parents indulged a healthy passion.
Yes .. something my parents would never have done
This. It's not obvious what your child will seriously get into and be passionate about in the future but they went full PIANO. Hats off to them.
Do you seriously believe that a 2 year old can have a passion for piano?
@@internetheroin2561 I did...unfortunately the people who raised me only wanted me to play hymns out of a hymn book so I never went past 6 years of lessons. But I played a song with one finger at 18 months old, and by the time I was 5 I was playing fluently with both hands, no lessons whatsoever, just whatever I heard by ear. I started lessons at 5 and a half, and was on my way to playing in a Philharmonic orchestra and had won a state competition. I had a huge passion for piano ever since I was very tiny, and I could have, and should have, become a concert pianist.

This is a definition of a true prodigy kid. He was four at that time and look how effortlessly he played that piano fluent like liquid. It’s either u got it or u don’t. You're wrong to assume it was voluntary
When I was a young girl my family wouldn't buy me a piano no matter how much I begged, but eventually my grandmother bought me a classical guitar and I would have played it eight to ten hours per day if my hands could have taken the strain. Mm
Having a supportive family is a big plus.
You have a strange idea of what "successful" and "supportive" mean. They bought him a $20,000 piano to... play useless music. Why spend that money on something worthwhile when you can waste it on entertainment? Why encourage a kid to grow up to have a job that benefits society when you can make them an entertainer? We have a generation of kids who want to be pop stars, football players, and Twitch video-game streamers. When I was a kid, kids would tell you they wanted to be a teacher, doctor, fireman when they grew up. Kids now are lazy attention-cravers who want easy $$$ and care nothing about actual needs of their community. "I want to bring the audience happiness." Yeah, that's going to bring real happiness, right. Sure, we're born with an incurable disability that society stigmatizes, sure we lost our house in a wildfire or hurricane, sure we lost family members to covid, sure we have gun violence outside our own kids' bedroom windows, but hey, we can be happy because some little rich kid can play music. Priorities, gees. A supportive parent would lead kids in the right direction to grow up to be a good person, not to be a selfish attention-seeking person.
Why buy a 20k piano? They must be made of money? A Yamaha keyboard for $500 would of worked.

I don’t know if you have ever studied music but I will tell you what I love teaching and seeing the young mind develop and I have many clients in my home with my youngest student of three and my oldest is 76 years old!!
I have a wide range of ages in all of my clients... therefore I love my work regardless of age and I see that I was blessed to do what I do! Teaching people how to learn no matter what age is a gift and I cherish the gift that I was given to pass on to other students no matter what age they are! I hope this encourages you to know that learning at any age is a gift and one who processes to gift of teaching is also a blessing because for me teaching is an art...it encompasses the whole human being of teacher and student connection!

I too began studying the piano at age three like William and the Piano Accordeon from age seven. Although I never became a famous pianist or accordionist, music is what defines me even today although I earned my living as an in-house counsel and transactional lawyer. Children will show talent for one of the arts from a very early age. A child's brain is like a sponge or a hard disk and gifted children can handle a great deal, as long as they are having fun and enjoying what others might consider hard work.
Such a precious young boy. I love seeing kids find their passion at such a young age ☺️
..
precocious
His young passion also got his babysitter pregnant.
the fact that the stool is so tall that he is practically standing makes this just the more impressive. he is this tiny child who has only really played piano for around 1.5 years, and yet he rivals those with many more years of practice. it's also the pure joy that sparks happiness. the fact that he looks like he genuinely loves and enjoys this, his smile glowing the entire time that he plays.
2 years old they get him a $20,000 piano and can't afford a piano bench that fits? He'll probably be crippled by the time he's 10

I like how he's like 80% standing and 20% sitting when he plays
That's right!😊
Jerry Lee Lewis did that, next thing you know 20% his feet will be on the piano.

Interesting comment. I've been playing in that position for the last few months, because I had to put my keyboard is on a table, and I've also found that I'm playing better than usual. I hadn't thought of it, but this position might be an important key to better playing!
Guess they didn't want to saw off the legs of the seat just for him.
Saw the thumbnail and wanted to see what they considered a "prodigy." This boy is amazing. Not only that, but he seems sweet and his parents are really nice. I hope he continues to enjoy his music.
Mom and Dad thank you for believing in the precious child of yours. I smiled when you said that MUSIC makes him happy. I totally understand. That is my happy place too. Congratulations to you all. Be blessed beautiful family.
“He can punch the little keys”
Any 2 year-old can and will randomly plonk the keys, this does make him any different. Parents pushing their kids that early ruins their opportunity to find true passion. However, he does seem to enjoy it (luckily) and all the haters saying he’s never going to have a childhood are just jealous. He’s talented, probably more than most of us were at 6 years old, so I say kudos to him.
“I have small fingers to play instruments” is not an excuse anymore.
It is on a bass guitar
It does on a cello
@@charless3484 but that’s why there are smaller and bigger sizes of that instrument
it actually can be sometimes with the piano. although my hands are quite flexible, they are really small and can't reach a tenth.

He's this good now; imagine how good he will be when he can reach the pedals!!! Of course, he deserves most of the credit, but his incredible talent wouldn't go this far if it weren't for his amazingly supportive and loving parents. I love to see and hear about kids like this! The future of music is bright with kids like him around.
Just like Joshua Bell, he has the rest of his life to improve his technique and interpretations as well as dabble in all those other things he said he was interested in like composing.
This adorable boy is bringing so much happiness to the world with his incredible talent. An absolute joy.
When he said he wanted to bring happiness with his music, I was really moved.
He certainly brings happiness.
May God bless him always.
i love the parents, they’re so sweet, they’re not forcing him to do anything but motivate him, and allow him to chose his own path, and go at his own pace. that’s how it should be

Parents paid enough attention to recognize his interest in music. How many of us pay enough attention to our children to know what THEY enjoy, instead telling them what they ought to want? Perhaps we are just too busy to spend the time necessary to get to know our children.
U sound like a disgruntle daughter or son.... sounds familiar lmao
parents didnt pay attention. just typically Asian parents drilling it to the kids.
or money
Not me! Both of my son's like to draw and I encourage them to do it! Try to send one to art school but couldn't afford it. But he's still drawing at the age 47!
David Chan just cause their Asian dosent mean anything. I hate that stereotype. My mom is Asian and she doesn’t “drill” stuff into me. She lets me do what I love and enjoy.

Hey Hoof Grip. Yes. Stereotypes. One of my high school chums wasn't really interested in college. We went to work as an auto mechanic and Loved it. Another friend in college bound determined to go into Nursing. One of the stereo types I kept running into was that idiotic Mormon racism back in my younger days. A few of my Native American friends kept receiving so-called reeducation because of their darker skin. I, for one, got something similar because I am larger and I used to do a lot of heavy work but yes, cooked and tried to sew up things too but I 'm not that delicate? meaning I didn't bow down to asking a man for permission about everything. That cult approved of psychiatric treatment of women for all kinds of things. Back to our situations. Those beautiful eyes or no, Math just wasn't your thing.
