    I only played this game for the first time, a year ago, but I have to say this is one of the best game soundtracks ever made. It's ambient, creepy and just pulls you right into the tense atmosphere of the Von Braun.
    This soundtrack is right up there with Ocarina Of Time, Deus Ex, and KOTOR.

  • @WeirdGuyGreen

    In the game they had the music broken up into little chunks that would play dynamically so it's not possible exactly to have it just as it was in the game, but I do have a CD sent to me which was burned by Eric Brosius the music guy himself, so that's the most official arrangement you can get. However, I don't think his version is what I uploaded on this video haha, ironically a fan made arrangement is maybe a little bit tighter, but they're very similar. I took months off the game from fear too

  • @Thepnastyone

    It's not only atmospheric but it fits this part of the game very well, after revisiting and beating it for the fourth time on impossible it seems to have gotten even better.

  • @DreamMorpheus42
    @DreamMorpheus42 12 ปีที่แล้ว

    @SirKuja This game was a goddamn miracle. It defies genre. There is no game like it. (not even Bioshock)
    Has another game pulled off the Epistolary story-telling device before? Like, it's got to be the oddest and most brilliant design decision of all time. Years before HL2 we had a first person game that told a robust story (predominately) without dropping the first person perspective and without interrupting gameplay. this game is 12 years old now and STILL ahead of the curve.

  • @SoDaR2007
    @SoDaR2007 14 ปีที่แล้ว

    @SiliconBong - Exactly my friend, them trusty old README files came in handy if i do say so. Figuring out what to do was all part of the fun and this is what made these game so memorable. Ultima Underworld is another example. You create your character, choose your skills and start the game with no indication on what to do next. The rest is all up to you, the player. This is how gaming should be!

    Yeah, that's what gaming, even PC gaming has become: shooters with pretty graphics, short campaigns, and repetitive multi-player.
    Today's big games are mostly just forgettable generic shooters that are interchangable with each other. But a game like System Shock 2 stays with you... even if you haven't played it in months, you really can't stop thinking about it. It's such a powerful game, that it's so memorable. The imagery, the music, the atmosphere... everything about it.

  • @SoDaR2007
    @SoDaR2007 14 ปีที่แล้ว

    @SiliconBong - Course, Pacman very was addictive. Wolf3D, when it came out, was just plain rediculous and fun at the same time. R-Type for me was unbelievably addictive as well as Wing Commander, remember playing those for hours on end. Other FPS' like Heretic, Hexen and even Strife (remember that one?) were great to play and Shadow Warrior, as you mentioned. Firing up the old Modem or a classic LAN game on any we have mentioned here were just plain awesome mate. Good to reminisce about these.

    SoDaR2007 "The rest is all up to you, the player"
    Isn't that the truth !! Every game that has revolutionised gaming, has put the onus on the player to figure out what works and doesn't work.
    Quake comes to mind immediately, unearthly music and unimaginable monsters and you-the player-have to figure out that using a grenade launcher, underwater, surrounded by barrels of explosive&toxic waste is not a good idea :)

    I miss the 'dark ages' of FirstPersonShooters, SoDaR2007.
    Necessity is the mother of invention: Programmers lacked the sophisticated code to render picture-perfect gameplay, so they used a free and abundant resource to complete the picture > the player him/her self. By engaging the player in a [semi]realistic story, ID made a name for themselves. With the addition of a few patches;GLQuake. . , compared to wolf3D, Quake was more addictive* than smoking weed :)

  • @pehmomarsu

    @carfoz I do understand. I think most of people like BOTH games. I think System Shock 2 was a great classic, Bioshock was also a good game. I think people are dissapointed with it (Bioshock), because it had a great potential to be much more. System Shock 2 and even the first System Shock were revolutionary titles. System Shocks "roleplaying-elements" in 3d-game were nowhere to be found before title...

    @SiliconBong - Dark Ages ha, now your just making me feel old damnit! Yeah i admit i miss the dark ages but there was just so much great stuff on many platforms to enjoy. Indeed, ID's games were very addictive like you said. Lost a lot of time playing Keen, Wolf, Doom, Quake etc, but well worth it. It was very hard to get off them once you started but more addictive than weed? Well ... i think on that one we will have to agree to disagree ;)

    ..finaly System Shock 2 had ideas that no other game had that time.. hint of antigravity, radiation (vs hazmat suits), more interactive environment (those light switches!). This ideas haven't taken place in Bioshock. (Those should have been in "System Shock 3"!) Now Shattered horizon will be remembered as first game with real antigravity effects. I think System Shock 2 had ingredients for much more than Bioshock. Bioshock is still a good game.

    @SiliconBong - Quake, haha now that is something i haven't played in a while. Great game as well as Unreal, another classic shooter. I feel like today games tend to be all about the visuals and less about depth. It doesn't have to be perfect to be a hit. Deus Ex is one of these games. Graphically, in 2000, it was not up to par with the games out then neither was the voice acting (hilarious though). However it is one of my favourite games of all time, a masterpiece. I miss games like these.

    There will always be those with passion. I, for one, am developing a game for the soul purpose of having a shooter that controls how I want it to. Will I sell it? Yeah, but just to fund it's growth. If you're going to call all game developers monsters, just think for a sec that every living thing on this planet is just that. Everyone has a different mind and different motives. There are still people in the industry that care.
