USSR took France's nuclear arsenal very seriously, recently declassified documents of offensive plans over Europe the Soviets had showed that invading or or attacking French territory was strictly forbidden in fear or eliciting a nuclear response from them.
The plan, if it had been put into motion, was mostly to blitz through Germany and maybe the Benelux, but stop at France, no matter how well the attack goes, without the use of nuclear weapons to then show the US that 'it's done, what are you gonna do about it?' and hope that they too won't resort to nuclear fire after.

USSR was a bit confused concerning this little country we usually call France :
France has been an independent nuclear power since the '60s.
In case of a major Soviet offensive across Europe, some declassified files report that the Soviet troops would have stopped before the French border. Indeed France had "pluton" (tactical nukes on tanks) on the border, hidden in the forest, ready to fire on western Germany in case of a failure of the NATO defence.
Then ICBM (plateau Albion), Nukes carried by supersonic bombers (Mirage IV 3:36) and SLBM (submarines ) would be launched if tactical nukes wouldn't have been enough so that it would have been the beginning of a nuclear war.

Their tanks could go toe to toe with the German Panzers and defeat them in the beginning of WW2. That's why the Germans tricked them with the Blitzkrieg. They also allowed the Germans to build up for months after they invaded Poland and prepared to invade France. A direct confrontation between France and Germany in the opening months of WW2 would have been a very bloody battle.

@@stephenchappell7512 There were actually some Super Etendards visible in this video (at 1:57), flying in formation with an older Etendard IVM (or P). And the argentine navy bought Super Etendard (not the Super Etendard Modernisé that the french navy used in 1982), of the exact model shown in the video, as the older Etendard IVM and P didn't have the capabilty of firing exocet missiles due to their lack of surface radar (or any radar for that matter).
