You don't need a ball winder to make balls of yarn. You can use the back of a chair and your hands to turn the shank into a ball. Or, your wife can hold the shank while you wind the ball. Just saying.
Using a ball winder is so much fun! My kids always want to do it for me. After your last video I went to the Lobby and got some of the Chromatic Spectrum yarn. I’ve already knit up a hat in the indigo and now I’m working on one in the purple.
