    I would love to see a video about the advice our grandmothers gave us and what a holistic nutritionist take on it would be. Like an apple a day, cut your hair on a full moon, vinegar for shiny hair, sleep in your bra lol kind of things. Or maybe I just had a weird grandma! But it would be fun to hear what other people’s grandmothers advice was and how valid it all is today in light of holistic nutritionist science.

    I use a humidifier next to my bed at night, drink lots of water before bed and as soon as you wake up, and I use a heavy duty lip balm right before I sleep. All of those rituals, have seriously helped me stay in good shape, inside and out!

    Dry skin brushing also good to drain toxins off lymphatic system. Feels so good doing it especially in the morning.

    I have dry skin by nature and like you, I keep it pretty simple with only 3 skincare products; only 2 that I use daily. At night, I take off my makeup and cleanse with cold cream and that helps to keep the moisture in my skin. Excellent tips!

    Oh yes, I love my lip balm! We live in Washington state, on the east side, so it's dry and cold over here! I have dry, sensitive skin, so it's been a big learning curve over the years trying to figure out what works, and what doesn't work, for moisture! I take EFA capsules made with Coconut & Hemp oils, plus Vitamins D & E capsules, and that has been helping with my skin and hair/nail growth/strength. I also have to be really careful what soaps, lotions and other body products that I use, so I've been experimenting with making some of my own at home using really good ingredients, like pure oils. I've been wanting to get some Shea butter though, that's next on my list! :)

      I also take vitamin C and B12 as it helps keep bones, teeth strong and replenish red blood cells. My Dr and dietician told me to take both as well as vitamin D because aside from summer, no other season do we get enough sun. It also helps with Seasonal Affective Disorder in winter.

    I use beef tallow! Sounds weird, but it’s magical. Animal fats are closer in their makeup to our own cells. So our body more readily absorbs them! Unlike plant oils. You can buy tallow balm online, but it’s much cheaper to make at home. I just melt it with some olive oil to make it spreadable and maybe add some essential oils. Boom. I only need to use it about once a week, as opposed to daily with other products

    I have oily skin. I really dislike it, but I try to take care of it as much as possible. I use a face cream whenever I go out and minimal make up. It's quite a struggle to find natural solutions for my skin. But I found a really gentle cucumber and vitamin C soap. And also a lavander and ylang ylang soap. I alternate between these two, so my skin won't get too used to one and not respond to it anymore. Both have made my skin better. I have breakouts from time to time, but nothing major. As a make up remover I use either coconut oil, that i wash off with the soaps I mentioned, it's important to not leave it too much on my skin, or a special make up remover from a company based in my country. I sometimes use face masks, but I usually avoid to use too much product so I can avoid irritation. I wish I found a really good face cream that wouldn't make my skin more oily, and I tried, but nothing that was recommended to me was as efficient as I expected. If anyone can recommend me something, I am very open :).

    Thank you for this.... I need to try these. I have IBS, eczema, seborrheic dermatitis so it can be frustrating as my hands break out into cuts in winter. I'm limited in what I can use for makeup, soap, hand sanitizer, shampoo and skin products. I use Head and Shoulders at times and while it's good for my scalp, it hates my skin so my rosacea breaks out and my face will hurt after the shower, as even water can hurt my face. I have to dab my skin after the shower or the skin flakes. I do have some prescriptions I get from my dermatologist too.

    Such a great video idea coming into these cold Ontario winter months! I am so prone to dry and cracked skin during this time so it was a good reminder to see this :) quick question - would you recommend taking more than 1000mg of vitamin D during the winter to help with SAD? I live in a basement apartment, and as much as I try to spend time outside when I can, it’s not always a possibility. I’m hoping I can try to remedy some of the effects this year!

      You can whip it with a hand mixer for about 15-20 minutes. It'll make it easier to use. I warm it in the micro wave for 30 seconds to make it pliable, then put it in a large bowl and mix it. You could add coconut oil to it to make it even better. Or essential oils for it to have fragrance

    Do you have tips for moisturizing the skin that don't include oil? Because my skin is dry and oily at the same time... (and also I don't like that sticky feeling)
    In Summer it worked surprisingly well without any moisturizer, I just washed my skin with water and that was it. It wasn't dryer then usually and it was less oily in the end of the day... but now my skin starts to become dryer :(

    I heard lavender is very irritating for the skin. Is that really true?

    • @sarahali3362
      @sarahali3362 5 ปีที่แล้ว +2

      Yes, it's a skin irritant, like most essential oils are :(

    • @meghanlivingstone
      @meghanlivingstone  5 ปีที่แล้ว

      Lavender is generally regarded as a safer essential oil for the skin and can be quite soothing, however, this depends on the exact brand you are using and if it's been cut with other ingredients. It will also depend on your unique skin and if you have any sensitivities to it. I've personally never had an issue with lavender and I've always found it wonderful in my cleansers :) Hope this helps!

    • @meghanlivingstone
      @meghanlivingstone  5 ปีที่แล้ว

      Many essential oils are indeed skin irritants, and while lavender has the potential to be, it's very often used safely on the skin. But always a good idea to be cautious if you have very sensitive skin!
