    I just bought 2 36in wright stander I mowers because, of your fine detail in building your machines. Also the rep Brian from pace was outstanding in demoing the unit before the purchase. Thank you for building a machine that's has a fine cut quality.

    Great info!. I have a question. Why are some spindles vented? Is heat an issue? My mower has vented spindles and I end up with packed grass/ leaves packed around the spindle after every mow.

    excellent video
    I got into looking at spindles since I picked up a toro timemaster. There is a Big Market for 30", you all should consider it.
    now..servicing this unit, the bearing are dry, all sorts of dirt-clippings..nastyness. This is a common reason for failure, I think.
    I heard your comment on over greasing....and thats interesting. Quality of grease..yes..Ill go out and say there is a you tuber that did sometesting on the lucas red and tacky, and it looks good. Im sure there are others.....I wish you would elaborate on this.
    Wright has a great rep on the street. Think about a 30....people like them.

    Thanks for the video good information. I have a couple of questions if I may ask
    1) My mower is a Husgvarna M-ZT52 zero turn. The blade mandrels need bearings it's a cheap popular bearing 6204-2DLRS. The lower bearing is sealed only on the one side that is on the outside facing down toward the blade but open to the inside of the mandrel to collect grease. The top bearings are sealed both sides. My question is can I replace the lower bearing with a bearing sealed both sides so as to eliminate the need to pump grease into every 8 hours of operation or so.
    2) On breaking down two mandrels and removing the spindles it became obvious that on the bottom of the spindle there is this steel cup which covers the outside base of the mandrel, it has inside a cup seal of sorts probably just an extra dust and water seal before the bearing seal. One mandrel had the cup of the seal facing up and the other facing down. Which is the correct way the cup seal should be facing when it slides up inside the base of the mandrel. Hope this makes sense.
    It's stupid money to replace the whole mandrels when bearings are cheap and the units have not suffered any wear on the spindles themselves. Thank you.

    Hello From Mark In Kentucky. Thanks for your great video regarding the deck spindles. What brand or type of grease do you recommend for your mower deck spindles? For my John Deere mower decks, I have been using the Lucas RedNTacky grease which seems to be working out pretty well for my equipment. I do know that some brands of grease do not work well together in which they actually have a negative reaction to one another.

    Interesting question. How can you tell if the spindle you have can have its bearings replaced? The top of my pulley has a nut that can be removed. It does have a squeak and was thinking of changing just the bearings. This is on a 1974 Dynamark. The spindles were replaced three years ago and one is starting to squeak.

    I demo'd an X Stander before I bought my ZK. I loved the bolt on Spindle set up on the X and assumed the ZK had the same set up. I was very disappointed when the dealer delivered my ZK only to find out it has through bolt spindles. We change blades in the field quite regularly and it's a pain changing blades with through bolt spindles. My Intensity had through bolt spindles but, it was a 2015 model so I thought the new ZK would have bolt on like the X and like my eXmark Lazer Z has. What would it take to change out the spindles dollar wise? I can do it myself. Thanks, another great video.

      Hi James, i'd be pretty costly to swap all three out. We haven't moved away from the thru bolt because it seems to take the higher torque on the bigger machine. I agree, it's a pain now that everyone has cordless impacts. -Ed

    Can bad spindles effect how well the blades mow the grass? I have an older 38" hp Murray mower that seems to struggle mowing grass. I have to hit the clutch/brake to let the blades speed back up. I also hear a sound like tires burning out when it's struggling to mow.

    What about the effect of a big impact on the deck with a large cast iron spindle like a toro or husky spindle?

    • @WrightMowers
      @WrightMowers  6 ปีที่แล้ว

      A "big spindle" is not so much of a feature. Many companies reinforce either the deck or the casting (or nothing). What's important is that something is being done to be sure it's strong. Large casting tend to be very costly to replace and make the mower heavier and so we tend to reinforce the deck skin. -Ed

      @pementerprises7706 3 ปีที่แล้ว

      @@WrightMowers Very true, I just exchanged the spindles on my Z master from the old cast iron to the new cast aluminum and the deck is much lighter. Also I really like the hex bushing design that protects the deck and the housing.

    This may be a novice question but how do you know when to replace your spindle? What are signs your bearings are going to need replacement soon? Is there a way to physically check on bearings or a method of which to know your bearings are good? Can wd-40 be sprayed under cap to push any water out after pressure washing? Or should cap be removed and add grease? Thanks Ed

    What about roller bearings on a scag vs the ball bearings on the wrights

    • @WrightMowers
      @WrightMowers  7 ปีที่แล้ว +6

      Hi Palmer, Yes--I didn't address it in the video. SCAG is the only notable company that uses taper bearings. The benefit is they can survive really high side impact. The down side is that they must be greased very regularly otherwise the top bearing will blow out and also taper bearings are not good at high speeds (a trailer bearing might be good at 600-800RPM but a mower spindle goes 3000-4000RPM). Our first spindle was actually a taper roller bearing but we didn't have good success with it. -Ed

    • @blessed7fold
      @blessed7fold 5 ปีที่แล้ว

      @@WrightMowers Not understanding where you come off saying tapered roller bearings are not good at high speeds. High speeds is one their greatest advantages.

    • @blessed7fold
      @blessed7fold 5 ปีที่แล้ว

      @Duke Of Prunes I respectfully disagree with ED. Tapered roller bearings are superior to ball bearings in about every single way. Just do your research and you will find out.

    I am halfway through editing a video about rivets and it was just as boring as this! I have tried to make it exciting, and no amount of cutaways to flying sparks seem to make it so..., it is what it is!!!
    By the way, this is a compliment, I recognize someone who KNOWS his subject inside out and I say BRAVO! I do hope my British humour lands here.
    I am just about to replace two spindles on my McCullough mower here in a French forest and this was useful thank you.
