    OA3 looks noisier on TH-cam and still has soft focus. That said, I'm tempted by one, I have the OA2. The biggest selling point for me is that I can just plug in a small ext mic if needed without a media mod or adaptor. Colours out teh box do seem nicer too.

    • @HeHasTheCamera
      @HeHasTheCamera  ปีที่แล้ว +1

      Interesting. I have to go back and look at that. I didn't notice that it was noisier, however I stared at the footage so much editing that it all becomes a blur. External mic is a plus and the magnetic quick connect is really convenient. Surprising how many times that has come in handy. Thanks for watching!

    I have the action 3 and love it. The focus on mine isn't soft and it has a build date of 11/22. I've owned it now for about 3 weeks. I've owned 4 gopros over the years (last gopro was the 10) and none of them have been issue free.

      I have been using my action 3 for almost every video that I shoot unless I am featuring a specific product that requires me to review it by filming with it. I am very happy with it and I feel like out of the box performance is simply the most well-rounded. I never had problems with GoPros, I just feel like the Action 3 is easier. It certainly means the next iteration could have the potential to be amazing..

    I'm planning to buy the Action 3 in a couple of weeks, but I'm really worried about the focus issue. Just hoping the unit I'll buy is not affected.

    • @HeHasTheCamera
      @HeHasTheCamera  ปีที่แล้ว +1

      Yeah it's obviously one of the biggest comments that I get on any videos involving the action 3. It's just so hard to know and I feel like we haven't gotten the definitive answer about why certain units have problems. I will tell you that the video for sure softens in lower light. My guess is that DJI opted for a bit softer video with less noise. So to be sure, you'll want to make sure you have decent light out. If you shoot in the car on a sunny day for example, you'll see some loss.of sharpness. As far as the soft focus issue, I can only say that I'm happy with my unit. Your mileage may vary. Thanks so much for watching and for your comment.

    DJI must be hurting to sale these, they usually don’t flood TH-cam with small content creators doing sponsored reviews, but they have massively pushed this camera out to hundreds of small creators.

      Interesting. I didn't notice that. Of course my videos are not sponsored or compensated by DJI and of course I bought and chose to use the Action 3 on my own, but that is an interesting observation. Great video dude! I’m in the market for an action cam. I’ve been doing TH-cam for several years now, but I’m still very much a novice at videography. The GoPro 11 (and even the 10) does seem to have better image quality, but I’m concerned with it freezing up on me, as they’re reported to do. And I also like the usability for camera dummies like me in regards to the DJI Action 3. Thanks again for this video, this will go a long way toward my buying decision.

      I really appreciate you watching it! Yes, for me ease of use is a major consideration. I'm trying to do this channel while doing a million other things and I simply don't have time to tweak everything and spend time making adjustments. I need to get the video, get it cut up and posted in a timely manner so I go with DJi for this reason. Obviously the GoPro is a fantastic camera however.

  • @tonyoman5018

    I'm a big DJI fanboy. Love their products, own the mini 2, air 2, pocket 1, among others. I REALLY want to prefer the action 3 but it's just too soft. I tried to bias myself out of that realization but I can't. DJI hit everything else right. The UI is perfect and the stabilization is fantastic, but the video quality just doesn't cut it. I'm waiting for the action 4 and recommend others do the same. DJI has a history of listening to customers and giving them what they want. A few tweaks and the action 4 should be darn near perfect.

    • @HeHasTheCamera
      @HeHasTheCamera  ปีที่แล้ว +2

      I think that's fair. It seems your mileage may vary. I have been happy with my action 3, Though I am very much aware that many people are not. I also think you are exactly right, if it weren't for the soft focus this would be a standout product that nobody would be arguing against. That bodes well for the action 4. Thanks so much for watching!

  • @RossHoekman
    @RossHoekman ปีที่แล้ว +1

    Thanks for the video! I'm in the market for an action camera for concert videography with my band, and am leaning towards the Action 3. GoPro may be slightly sharper, but it sounds like DJI has the focus issue worked out with the newer batches, and I'm not interested in all the hardware freezing/glitching that I keep reading with GoPro. (Surprising they still haven't worked that out after 11 versions of the camera.) Insta360 X3 is the other one I'm looking at... Kind of apples to oranges since it's a 360 cam, but It would be interesting to hear your thoughts on that one as well!

    • @HeHasTheCamera
      @HeHasTheCamera  ปีที่แล้ว +1

      I haven't had any experience with the Insta360 X3. I had a terrible experience with the little "Go2" which I had purchased to do some vlogging. It simply stopped working and had lots of issues so I sort of stayed away from them. However I've considered reviewing the X3, it's just that it didn't make it because of other projects. The support / customer service at Insta360 is virtually non-existent as well. The only concern I have with the DJI is that you have to have good lighting. So if you are talking about action outside during the day you should be very happy with it. But then again all action cameras need good light. I just find the Action 3 degrades a bit more on lower light than GoPro. I think you would be interested in the fact that the DJI has much better connectivity with external mics (which might come in handy for you) and also the quick mount might be very useful. If you are looking at external mics look into the "Rode VideoMic NTG"

    • @RossHoekman
      @RossHoekman ปีที่แล้ว

      @@HeHasTheCamera Thanks for the reply! I've read reports of the same thing about Insta360's customer service. We're under bright stage lights for our show, so I'm thinking the DJI will work well. I've seen a lot of eye-catching X3/360 footage ("continuous shot" style edits), but I question how much I'd ACTUALLY use a 360 camera for a band situation.

      I wouldn't say that they have fixed the focus issues. More like, my unit does not experience the same focus issues that many others have complained about. Mine was produced in September 2022. So I feel like it's still a bit of a gamble. If you have one without focus issues, I prefer it to the GoPro, However, you are correct. The GoPro Hero 10 is a very good deal right now. I have two complaints about action 3: too much contrast, even d-cinelike (the profile should not only have less saturation, but also less contrast, and it's still the same), and the outdated h.264 codec, which makes the files large and average quality for 2022. so it's very hard to decide which camera to choose.

    • @HeHasTheCamera
      @HeHasTheCamera  ปีที่แล้ว +1

      I actually feel like the action 3 crushes black less than the GoPro in its automatic, normal color profile. My problem with GoPro is that they are too heavy on contrast on most of the settings. With my GoPro I always film and flat and too much contrast is part of the problem. Obviously it's personal preference but I haven't had an issue with the action 3. The point on the Kodak is valid for sure. Thanks for watching!!

    If you don’t want to color grade, then don’t buy the DJI. Almost every good video I see from the DJI requires color grading. The GoPro runs rings around the DJI with out-of-the-box image and color quality. DJI is catching up for sure, and if they bring out an Action 4 next year, with lessons learned, they may well have a great product.

    For me, it is not that it has soft focus, it is just kinda blurry when there is text in your footage, it showed up quite blur for the unit I purchased. If it's just general outdoor scenery in good light, I guess it's ok. But, for example, if you make video of road trips where there are plenty of road signs. and building with interesting signs, it's not good. You can't read them properly. With my Go Pro, there is not such issue out of the box. I just think currently DJI is spending more money on marketing, paying media outlets, and may be some TH-camrs to say how good the OA3 is, instead of trying to fix the real issue. I supposed it may be the design/manufacturing issue in which they decide it is not worth going back to redo them. So buying the current OA3 is like playing the lottery.

    • @HeHasTheCamera
      @HeHasTheCamera  ปีที่แล้ว +1

      I think a lot of that is fair. I've received no contribution from DJI and I do like the camera a lot but I don't think anyone can dispute that it is not without flaws. GoPro probably represents the "safe" choice given the way you frame the argument. Thanks!
