Honestly, were I in charge of this series, I would've just started on Nancy as single, had her date a few guys before getting to Ned, had her break up with Ned in time, had them both drift apart and date a few more people before getting back together for a while, broken them up again (probably for good or at least the indefinite future), had them remain as friends while dating other people, occasionally played up the fact that there still exists some latent sexual tension between them, and had them to act on it once in a while (with kissing, etc.) but to also purpose that they will not get back together with each other either for a considerable while or for good. That would've been MUCH more believable and would've made them both seem FAR less trashy than they do by staying together but making out with new people every other book in this series.

Yeah she should have gotten a longer sentence. Nancy and Ned should either break up or decide to stay together but they can date other people.
