I love how the guys just understood the assignment. When Gerard couldn't sing the high note, the backing vocals didn't sing anything. But when he hits the high note, the backing vocals accompany him.
People are unaware that Mexico is 7200 feet above sea level and that many artists actually have difficulty singing and even breathing. Plus, the man is wearing a full suit with no ventilation, on a warm night, adding to the fact that he is already 40+ years old. Do you genuinely think he's going to sing the same as he did when he was 20? For me it was the best concert I've ever been to, the crowd was great and Gerard was amazing.

Very unusual and special quality and timbre. Singers that have to perform arena shows too often will usually try to save their voice by avoiding the most difficult parts. Think Bruce Dickinson. They give their all in studio recordings but they're careful in live performances where they can't hear themselves well.

He sings in a head-voice space, but in full chest and his songs, for many years, were sung at limit of his full chest range. You can hear it almost cracking and entering into the distorted "scream" notes on some of his songs. Think Helena, after the bridge, "If you carry on this way" - those notes are very peculiar in terms of vocal technique and it can very easily damage your vocal cords. Vince Neil blew his voice out many years ago too. Gerard is a big fan of Jon Bon Jovi too.. who also blew his voice out many years ago. - I think if they transposed the song into a lower key, it would sound MUCH better and would put less strain on Gerard's vocals too.
I think your analysis is definitely spot on, but I guess the only thing I’d disagree with is that I think the original key of the song is just perfect 😊 at least in terms of how it sounds
He did permanent damage to his vocal chords in the waning days of touring Parade, winter 07-May 08. He had to go to a vocal coach between 2008 and the recording of Danger Days to find new approaches to his singing to prevent further damage, kind of the "work smarter, not harder" philosophy. I'd say he's been successful. Steven Tyler and Elton John have had to have surgery to basically rebuild their vocal chords, so drama like that happens.
