I didn't think anyone did this. Best Buy guys were like this is beyond our capability. They told me to try TH-cam and here we are. Really... thank you!
I want to upgrade the audio on my 2016 EX, but I don’t want to change the head unit out. Might just swap out the speakers for better ones as I don’t want to lose any of my cargo area to a subwoofer and I can’t fit it under my seat because mine is AWD.
Smart move, the stock headunit has a fairly decent speaker amp at 180Watts. The built in speaker amp on the kenwood sounds like shit compared to the stock one. Plus the screen on the kenwood is crap (for being their higher tier model too), the stock Honda one was easier to see during the day I’m in the same boat, didn’t wanna give up on cargo space. But I started looking into some of these shallow mount sub boxes, may give them a shot within the next year.
My HRV has an issue where the radio freezes when I answer a phone call at times. Thinking of upgrading the radio but not sure if this problem is my specific radio or something else in the car. Any thoughts? Thanks for the video!!
Which model do you have? I have the EX model from 2016. I know the 2019 and up have a different one from what u have with built in car play. But can’t tell ya cuz there’s 4 different versions. I never had issues with my old one tho
I think the company that handles compatibility conversion “idatalink” stopped producing updates after the 2018 because 2019 up already came with CarPlay. You can still do it but risk losing steering wheel controls, side mirror, etc. ask the companies to see if they’re willing to experiment with the module but setting the car configuration to the 2018 one. Idk if the connectors or signals have changed between the 2
Arkady Avizbakiyev I don’t see why not. Idk about the rear and side cameras though. If it already has that then yes. But basic features like the steering wheel controls should work. Buy it at Crutchfield, they sell all the kits you need like the dash trim and the radio antenna adapter
Yeah the crappier LX model only has the backup camera and that's it, do you think I would need the other modules? I don't really need SiriusXM. I'm also worried about the steering wheel controls.
Hi I’m a 2017 EX-L Trim HR-V Owner, I want ask If I choose Pioneer DMH1500X or Sony to replace the audio system am I able to keep those two camera’s OEM functions?
I would steer towards Pioneer personally, better compatibility for the 2 camera inputs. I just checked and yes, that pioneer model has the 2 camera inputs (for the side mirror). Go wild man :)
Yes. Voice button only engaged the stock headunit’s basic voice guidance thing. but now with this head unit, it engages the iphones Siri AS LONG AS you have the iDataLink Maestro as well as the Honda harness, also the call pick up and volume and channel changing all works now
Looks like you did your homework, and you got everything all figured out. Well done. However, the process in your video was jumping all over the place, a bit hard to follow.
I hear ya. I first wanted to show off the end result so people know what to expect & then it was the overview & some of the process, but it was longer than I have wanted to make it
I had the same equipment put in my 2016 HR-V, but then it developed a problem when the doors would unlock. After multiple unlocks, there would be a pop in the audio. The next time the doors unlocked, volume output of the Kenwood would be driven to 100% but the volume controls would still be at 'normal'. My installer couldn't figure out why this would happen other than it doesn't happen with a Pioneer head unit. Are you seeing anything like this happening on your setup?
Dale Nemec I heard popping only once and I thought it was to do with me rolling the window up\down to get into the parking garages. Maybe the speaker cable is not secured well and moves with door unlocks? What year is your car?

Man I'm gonna try this, my girl is craving apple carplay and No shops have been willing to to it, thanks for the vid!
Impressive. Very nice. Let’s see paul allen’s hrv.

@Jason Zakerowski did you do this? If so did you retain your blind spot camera?
Thanks for the details. This will help me a lot.
Could I put this head unit in a base model hrv without apple carplay?

Can I ask what is your dynamic rearview backup camera here?
It’s the stock that came with my EX model. I believe the iDataLink Maestro is providing the conversion as well as adding the dynamic parking lines
Been waiting for someone to do this ! We have the same car. What state are you in bro?
Carson Nguyen Virginia, I love this car. Besides the transmission, it is the best looking car in my opinion
How about the Apple CarPlay? Is it working?
It is, really nice. The wireless CarPlay is a bit annoying tho. Likewise I would’ve preferred a stock headunit look but it fits the bill
I have a base model 22 and I'm dying. Local audio place told me there's nothing compatible for it

Would I be able to install this on a Honda HRV 2016 LX?

Arkady Avizbakiyev the steering wheel controls should work. You’d need the datalink maestro and the HO2 adapter and you’re good

@@AMPTechGrade Thanks for your response!
Hi were you able to get everything working . ?
Yup, I haven’t had any issues with this so far.
Any recommendations or help on a 2021 HRV?
No idea. I feel like you might be able to try the same way but when using the idatalink maestro, treat it as a 2016 HRV but I’ve never tested it
Would this still work with the 2016's HDMI?
Nah. But look around, there’s headunits with HDMI in
Are the handsfree buttons on the steering functioning with the headunit?
Yes. Voice button only engaged the stock headunit’s basic voice guidance thing. but now with this head unit, it engages the iphones Siri AS LONG AS you have the iDataLink Maestro as well as the Honda harness, also the call pick up and volume and channel changing all works now

Does this work on the Honda hrv 2018
Don’t see why not. They changed the stock headunit in 2019 but I think it would still work.

That’s Cool
