Good info. For people new to BFS, I'd recommend getting a cheaper setup first, if you're not sure you are 100% into BFS. That way if you find you don't like it, you haven't spend a ton of money on something you aren't really into. And if you find you really like BFS, you'll have that cheaper setup in your arsenal, along with more expensive rods and reels you will probably end up getting. Cheap reels like the fishband gh100, Tsurinoya spirit fox, fishband pw100 are usually around less than 60 US dollars on aliexpress. Kuying teton rods, are similar in price(certain models), and made with fuji parts. Another cheap option for BFS rods are spincast rods, meant for those push button type of closed face reels, like the zebco 202. These rods can be found in UL,L, and ML, locally at big box stores in the US, like walmart. Not sure about availability in other countries though. I am fond of the Shakespeare micro series spin cast rods. I have two 4'6" UL rods, and a 5'6 2 piece L model. The 5'6 rod was 20$ shipped from amazon. I got both the 4'6" UL rods from walmart, and were part of spincast combos. The 2nd one I got on sale before xmas, for less than 6$! Imagine that, a decent working BFS rod, for less than 6 US dollars! They typically run around 18$ for that combo, when not on sale. Some people might be embarrassed to use rods that cheap, but I have absolutely no shame. I think it doesn't hurt to try out cheap options. Hell if a cheap rod breaks, you can always get it replaced for next to nothing.
I only fish cheaply and found interest in bfs fishing but was almost turned off of the strategy due to the expensive nature of it. This allows me to understand i can do it all much cheaper
Mark from TM is absolutely fantastic and has helped me many times. But If you’re willing to forego the help and after sales service, you can purchase from top end reels like the Aldebaran from Japan. I bought the same model as Adam uses for £207 plus I believe £54 import taxes. The reel is classed as ‘open boxed’, which basically means its been handled in store but is as good as new. I don’t often buy rods or reels from Japan and would recommend buying local where possible, but this is another option if that’s beyond your budget 👍🏻
Last spring I was thinking about getting a cheap BFS setup. I was looking at the Tsurinoya XF-50. The day before I was going to buy that reel my friend contacted me and asked me if I wanted to buy his barely one year old Shimano Aldebaran BFS XG for a really good price. So now I own an Aldebaran BFS XG and have not yet purchased a rod specifically for BFS. I have used the reel though. I’m thinking about getting a Kuying Teton BFS because it seems to be a cheap quality rod with the right action for both soft finesse plastics and hard plastic baits. I’m already looking at new BFS reels though. I’m really interested in the Abu Garcia Revo LTX BF8, and the Daiwa Alphas Stream Custom seems lovely too. The reel I fell in love with though is the ISUZU BC421SSS. It’s a handmade JDM round reel made for stream fishing. It’s just such an amazing and unique reel. Any thoughts on this?
Picked up fishing again last year and bumped into your channel learning about nedrig. So much new cool things happening in fishing now. I live in sweden and mostly fish for perch. I was on a quest to get a ultra light casting setup 4 years ago but it was hard finding info and hassle with shipping outside EU. Used a Shimano Curado and a westin W3 rod which did good for 7-28g baits, was really fun but ended selling it off. I daydream quite a lot atm to save for my dream reel which is a modified Shimano Scorpion and a nice shimano finesse rod. Usually don't go below 3g even on spinning rods here since it's a lot more deep water fishing.
Cheers Darren! I really appreciate it mate! Yea I love it too not sure where to find them at the moment but it's one of the best things I've bought and not crazy expensive! Hope you are well mate! 👊🙌
Hey fella just found and subbed to your channel now gonna binge watch 👌. Very informative and I love fishing canals , chills me out. Loving content and explaining different methods -Ned rig etc. Cheers
Some quality kit the Adam👍 If and when the money becomes available I'll treat myself. I just treated myself to an SLX DC, which was the most expensive reel I've bought to date. That is a great reel. So can't imagine how good the aldebaran would be. Tight lines bud 🎣👍🎣
Hi Gavin! Thanks for watching mate! Sounds like a plan. That SLX DC is great though and you will defo find a few fish with it! The only time the Alde comes Into it's own is when the weight drops below 5 or even 3gr. Tight lines mate and thanks again for watching! 👊🙌
Great video. Good advice there. Helped with a few worries i had. Are you attaching braid directly to spool? If so what knot? What knot are you using to attach flouro to braid? Cheers.
Made the mistake of buying a baitcaster set up alas, wasn't quite good enough for the lite lure thing. No real big expense spared though. Having said, I may be able to upgrade the spool to a lighter and shallower one. My pal had nightmare stories of baitcaster lol, but I love idea of the very quick retrieve and thumb action to use with the lure....a clear advantage when casting over and over. To get some fishin I purchased a wicked rod from decathlon sports. Broke the first (my fault) second one is even better and more sensitive.
Between you and perch Jesus , you s have started my addiction again . Already got a G Loomis NRX 983c jwr casting rod paired with a Daiwa Steez 100sha , a similar . if not the same St Croix Legend Tournament casting rod paired with a Daiwa Tatula Type R , a Daiwa prorex Ags casting rod 10-30g paired with a Daiwa Steez sv 6.3r (jdm) , have a spare Daiwa steez sv 6.3r (jdm) reel waiting for a rod to go on (major craft maybe) , countless amount of Abu garcia , fenwick , Daiwa and Shimano spinning rods and reels . Ive got boxes and boxes of soft plastics and jig heads in all shapes and sizes plus weedless hook , jerk baits , spinners , spoons . crankbaits , fluorocarbon and braid lines . They take up half of my mums loft space once you include my match , river , barbel and carp gear . So im gonna have to get a BFS set up now to satisfy my obsession and addiction with fishing . My main Lure fishing stuff is in my home now in by bedroom and ive been blowing off the dust . Fter i buy all this BFS gear , you two titans are gonna have to take me fishing with yous one day because the beast is now awake and i ll have even more stuff that i dont know how to use it . Lol . The dreaded tackle monkys on my back now once again . Lol . Great content though mate . You and perch Jesus are the pioneers of the uk BFS TH-cam scene . Look foward to your nex vid . How much you charge for a little coaching and tips . I got all the stuff so you wouldnt need to use anything of yours bar your favourite set up i can assure you . Your guy at the shop doesnt have the Shimano 16 Aldebaran BFS XG in RH retrieve otherwise i would be purchasing it now . Lol . Tight lines mate look foward to the next !!!
Glad I found your channel i also live in London I'm using a very hevy baitcaster rod setup fishing for pike I like to go completely the opposite way and try go ultralight for perch and still use a baitcaster Is it possible to do dropshot fishing with a ultralight baitcaster setup?
Hi Karol! Thanks for watching mate. Glad you're enjoying. You absolutely can. It can be a great way to fish a drop shot. I just find it very comfortable in the hand! Tight lines mate. 👊🙌
I fish almost the same as you Adam bought the Aldebaran last year. Can you tell me how this spare magnets works, if I get them out only must get up in my dial from 2 till 6 doesnt make any differens when I cast 2.5 or 3 gram jigs and use 0.06 berkley x9 on Dragon toray rod 2 till 11 gram. Great video luv journey about casting BFS fishing and to watch 👍
Hi Richard! Great to hear you're also loving your set up as much as I love mine. Magnet wise I add them in as my opinion is more breaks can't hurt but I guess it's a feel thing for what ever your comfy with! So glad your enjoying the vids mate it means alot! 👊🙌
Cool videos about BFS thanks for sharing. I would like to give it a go. Could you please give me a bit of advise on a sort of entry level rod and reel combo you would recommend? Cheers👍🐟
Little strange question the drag is about 3 kg, so what kind of fishing you want to use about 10 grams is no problem too. All depends much on your fishing skills too, you can landed big fish too with it no problem. But keep in mind its not made for heavy baits and fish and got aluminium spool not so strong like steel. If you listning to Adam 111 cm Pike with it too and Zander etc Reels are strong but made for type weight of lures. Hope I answer your question as youtuber 👍
Yea I'm taking about PE. However within those parameters I don't use a line that is higher in diameter than 0.10mm and 8 strand. If you look for something in these parameters you can't go far wrong!
I'm currently using an HTO nebula braid in 16lb but any 8 strand would work well. I used to use a Gosen W8 braid and I know Shimano has a 0.6pe 8 strand as well!
So.... I have a very stupid question. Do people in the Uk have bass boats? Just never really thought about it. Always thought of bass boats as a mostly American thing... 🤷🏻♂️. Excuse my ignorance.
Hi Nate. I hear ya mate. It defo takes a bit more saving for and also I think over time with more people getting Involved the prices will come down 🤞 there are always the Chinese options of your looking for a cheap set up!! 👊 Thanks for watching mate! 🙌
Perch Finder TV true, I've seen a vid on a setup from aliexpress that looked nice. Never used that way of buying before tho so not sure. Think I'd rather save, always good using quality Gear
Mate I couldn't agree more. I've always thought the same when it comes to fishing gear. One thing I can say having done it is it's worth it when you do get it! Thanks for watching the vids mate! Speak soon! 👊🙌
@@nate8551 I've got an aliexpress BFS outfit. It's really nice and I only paid about $100 Australian. Kuying rod and Tsurinoya reel. have a look at kastking too...they have good stuff for the price.
There are a number of cheap aliexpress chinese BFS rods and reels that have been tested by various youtubers, and found to be good, reliable, starting, budget options. If you want a cheap BFS reel with pretty much the same breaks as the Shimano Aldebaran, check out the fishband gh100. Costs around 56 US dollars on aliexpress. I did replace the bearings in mine with hybrid ceramic bearings. There's also the Tsurinoya spirit fox, and the pw100. For good rods, check out the kuying tetons. These rods are made with Japanese fuji parts, and are really strong. People all over the world use them! I have a 5'2 2 piece super ultralight model, and the rod is like a noodle! The rosewood 6 foot 2 piece ultra light king, is a good rod as well.
Yes, Adam! Good shit. Got my aldebaran yesterday! (Y) thanks for the inspiration!
Well it's taken me all morning to find it but here it is. The no bs B.F.S video I needed. Thanks I'm now well informed.
A true legend of BFS fishing in the making keep up the good work. Once again thank you for giving me the BFS bug.
Grant thanks mate! It's much appreciated! I'm so pleased you're on the journey as well mate. So cool! 👊🙌🎣

Hi, whats best a solid tip or tubular tip for light work, like fishing the Ned etc oh and with a fixed spool
Never mind all that.. where can I get those new zman tech hoodies 🤣. One not quite as tight though
Hahaha they are not in the UK at the moment but when they are I'll let you know. It means I can't out on any weight 😂😂😂
Hi Adam. What knot do you use for fluro to braid? Regards Ernest.
