Thanks Nutn, cool surprise, I'll be sleeping in. I have a pre Accutrigger Savage Axis I bought from Wallyworld on closeout when the Accutrigger came in. Under $200 out the door. I free floated the barrel in the tupperware flexi-stock and did a redneck triggerjob on it, stoned the sear and striker, lighter trigger spring out of a ball point pen, and replaced the screw it sits on with a longer one for a trigger overtravel stop. It is astoundingly accurate with the Remington 30/06 180 gr PSP's I already had in stock. It keeps 3 shots touching a dime at my sight in distance of 235 yards proned out over my hunting daypack. Miracles of modern machining. A lightweight, cheap ass bambi blaster that tickles my redneck heart. 3 7d The Nutnfancy Project You got a great value shooter there Lon, wow. That Savage Axis is another great rifle. When people ask me what rifle to get for hunting it's a top rec' for sure. That caliber is perfect too. 1 6d Boone Mill Farm This went well with a cup of coffee this morning. Thank you Nutn. 1 7d The Nutnfancy Project You are welcome, glad you could come out Boone! 6d Josh I bought the 30-06 783 years ago from Sportsman Warehouse for under 400. Bolt handle and barrel have terrible bluing that needs a good layer of oil to keep from rusting. One of these days I'll give it a full paint over to save me the trouble. I'm glad you gave the 783 a good review since I've been thinking about getting rid of it for quite some time, as it kicks like a mule. I think I'll keep it a while longer, though I should've bought it in 308 to save my shoulder and my wallet some grief lol. 2 7d Cory Risseeuw Want to sell it? lol 7d Load 3 replies TheTopMostDog Thanks for the vid, mate! I like the the $$ cut is in stuff like stocks and finish vs barrels and actions like in older days. 1 7d The Nutnfancy Project Exactly Pedro 6d NatvMan This was the first gun I purchased years ago to go Elk hunting, mine is in 30-06. Shoots great and have a Leupold VX-2 3x9 on it. I would agree with the comment above, if you don’t keep it oiled it will rust. The finish isn’t that great. All in all it has been a great budget gun. 7d Lon N Perfect guns for some Krylon camo fun. As soon as my Axis got the scope mounted it was assaulted with rattle cans. 7d Andrey Shlyakt Even in bolt guns I am a capacity hog. Worth a look. Though I’m a hipster with most of my hunting, since it’s usually between 0 and 100 yards, so I use a slug gun in a rifle state. And few things can beat the knockdown power of my savage 220 20 gauge sabot slug gun within that yardage. If you can find them, it’ll put Remington accutips within 1 inch at 100. That plus an aimpoint is my setup"
Hi Nuntn , remington is apparently back in business now and looks like these are back up on the new remarms webpage. So may get some new production of these soon.
There's a reason that Remington discontinued the 788 back in the early eighties... Because it was a $99 department store rifle intended for poors that regularly outshot the expensive 700s. Remington couldn't have that. The 783 was close to the same story.
Reminds me of wanting to poke fun at people who think they are special or tacti-cool. Kind of like pulling up to a guy in a Porsche and saying, "nice Volkswagen," because they are designed by the same engineers. Lt Col is right. With this and other basic rifles ( I just added a TC Compass II to my little collection,) you can not only be effective at hunting, you could be effective at long range. If you are half MOA at 100 yards, that whole rifle is sub MOA. Which means you could shoot good groups at longer distance. The TC rifles are guaranteed to be 1 MOA out of the box, first three rounds. And mine was true to that. I shot 1/2 MOA on the first two shots, before zeroing, just to verify the precision of the barrel. Even better, I was still shooting 1 MOA with a hot barrel once I changed to some different ammo. My rifle weighed 7.5 pounds empty and bare. Which is not a deal breaker for me, at all. I would rather carry another pound for accuracy, if necessary and I think the barrel is thick enough to be accurate, as well as the enclosed action, similar to this 783. The TC is to be my hunting rifle on the move, since I hunt on public land. You can be hiking a few miles in a day. This is not a case of being on the edge of someone's field of milo and you ride a side-by-side to your elevated stand, so you only have to carry a few hundred yards in. So, with the low price and relatively low weight, You can spend your budget on good stuff to make it better. I know this is about the 783 but I find it comparable to the TC, which has my direct experience. No bipod because bipods add weight. I have come to the conclusion that bipods are good for bench rest and competition shooting but not as practical for hunting unless you get the long ones. And for that, I just carry my Bog Pod tripod in the frame backpack I carry (I live an hour from hunting land. Go ahead, be jealous.) I also practice off-hand, contrary to the advice of Jeff Cooper and also, improvise support, such as resting on a tree, very much with the advice of Jeff Cooper ("The Art of the Rifle.") There is a chance that I will see a target before I have time to settle down all calm and pretty. Just enough time to shoulder, get sight picture, and squeeze. The rifle is 1/2 MOA. But my wavering with off-hand may widen to 1 MOA. At less than 100 yards, I still get a dead deer. So, my rifle, loaded with 5 rounds of Federal Nontypical Whitetail .308 Win 150 grain, is 9 pounds 4.4 ounces, easy for me. Weight is not a deal breaker for me but I seek to shed a few ounces when possible or, at least, spend my weight and dollar budget (SAWR) in a way that works for me for accuracy and comfort. Muzzle brake, that kind that will accept a suppressor, later. Hydraulic recoil pad. That is my one weight concession to comfort. I have heavy high power scopes. Vortex Venom with zero stop, 35 ounces. Diamondback Tactical 6-24 / 50 mm FFP, 24 ish ounces. Crossire II 3-9 / 40 mm Dead Hold BDC (second focal plane), 14 ounces. So, after much consideration and the majority of my hunting in the woods is at 50 yards and less, I have put on the Crossfire II. Some say to zero at PBR, which, with my ammo, would be 1.8 inches high at 100 yards. I will still zero at 100 yards so that I can use the reticle for holds. And also, where I hunt, take off the dust cover, dial up two clicks, put the cover back on, I can aim dead on out to 50 yards. Good field of view, back off the mag just a little to get more of the deer in the view. You could do that with this 783. If, like Lt Col Nutnfancy, you like the Nikon Prostaff, I think they are not made anymore but I found a 3-9 / 40 on ebay for 130. I happen to like Vortex and you can get a new Crossfire II on Amazon for 117 + tax. Even though I am a Vortex fan boy, you don't have to buy one. If the Nikon that is more expensive by a few dollars, even used, is what you like, get that. I have done so. Others have disagreed with my choices but I buy what I want for the value it brings me.
Updating my own dang self. I changed back to the Diamondback Tactical 6x-24x / 50 mm FFP. I am just so comfortable with the EBR-2C reticle. And I get better mag. Granted, at 100 yards, I can zoom no more than 10 and still be clear, but that is a smidge more than the 9. And I have parallax adjustment. True, the Crossfire II has a thick crosshair that is always there. So, it is a matter of preference. Well, I re-weighed everything with the Diamondback on there and got the rifle solely on the scale at 9 pounds 7 ounces, which works for me.
My 783 is the regular black synthetic stock .308 caliber. Paid $300 CDN for it. I have cheap $99CDN, Bushnell scope from Canadian Tire on it. Zeroed my scope at 50 yards and it was bullet holes touching every shot. Moved out to 100 yards and fired twenty rounds and blew out the 2 inch bullseye completely. I was sniper trained in the British Army and carried a Parker Hale in 7.62 NATO with a top quality scope. I would match my 783 against that gun all day long. Great rifle!
Love the 783.... Bought my boy one in 243 and at 10 yo he was nailing a 6" plate at 500 yards. At the time it was under $250 and I couldn't be more happy.
Same here and I have not fired mine yet... wondering about the barrel life in 243.... I here they don't last as long because of 60k psi pressure and velocity. Wondering if I should have gotten the 308 in this??
I bought the 243 w/20" bbl in 2016. I got it threaded for my suppressor and installed a bipod. I use the stock scope. It does less than 1" groups with 100gr Hornady SPBT bullets at 2875fps. Great rifle and very handy for game up to antelope inside of 300yds.
Love my 783, Lucky 13 make 10 round magazines in Australia, not sure about availability for our mates in the USA, keep on fighting lads, it’s a nightmare over here.
Nutn-- I just left my LE career to join Remington which is relocating their global HQ near me. I have a LOT of inside baseball on the new 783 and other goodies fast on the way. It’s an all new Remington (RemArms, actually) and that’s a good thing. I can personally vouch; there’s QUALITY in every box.
Im a Remington man through and through, i have spoke to RemArms a few times in the past couple of weeks, and they have confirmed with me, that the Legendary 7600 will be coming back in the first quarter of 2023, which is the best news, and that RemArms is employee owned, the 760's and 7600's mean everything to me, i have a 1963 Remington 760 Game Master, ive used sense i was 12, and shot 95% of my Bucks with, i have a 1991 7600 30-06, and i also bought a 7600 from the last batch of 35 Whelen they made in 2019, Remington pumps are the best, and i will be buying my 12 year old son one from the first batch they release in 2023 as well, and im so glad America's oldest Gun Manufacturer is getting their feet under them again! AMERICA STRONG STAY FREE LONG LIVE THE REPUBLIC
I was jumping around looking at different .308s... I actually stumbled upon this model and I researched this rifle for days... Your video was one of the last I watched and found it to be a no bullshit assessment!! I chose this with no reservations and to add my family grew up with and used only Remington shotguns and rifles... When I was a police officer we used the 870 shotguns!! Remington is coming back and standing on their own merits!! Appreciate you brother!! shoot straight!!
I have this same 16.5" Heavy Barrel Synthetic in 308 and it is my only plastic rifle, yet my favorite gun. Remarms is making them again but these Remington built Marlin rifles will be a good investment. MDT does make a 10 shot Mag called MambaMag. It is a direct fit, no bottom plate replacement.
Bought the 783 in 2014 in 30-06 a bit heavy, but took it to the range the accuracy was excellent. The limiting factor was certainly the shooter. Hope I get a buck or two with it next year.
I'm looking at this one for my next gun as I'm wanting to get into hunting... I figured 30-06 should be good round but didn't want spend a lot on first time hunting rifle would you still recommend this... Unfortunately I'm in Commie Cali this rifle is about $600 in 2023
I have had similar experiences with the 783 as well. My dad picked it up for a little over 300 bucks five or so years ago, and he runs it out of the box with the 3-9 scope that came with it. We zeroed it once, and he uses it for hunting due to it being so light to carry around in his old age.
Bought one of these locally at a wally world for 180ish on clearance. I always thought it was a solid rifle other than the stock. The molded in front sling stud broke off from very light bipod use. Right at moa with off the shelf hunting .30-06 Trigger was impressive for the price. Another good review👍
I have the HB tactical version, 16 inch hb 308 threaded. I put it in a Boyds pro varmint, with a Pacific Tool and Gauge bottom metal and AI mags. Absolutely love this gun.
Got one of these back in Feb. It's my 1st rifle. Got it in 6.5 creedmoor. In the uk it was £800 with a bipod, scope and moderator. It is a accurate rifle for a good price. ( guns and ammo are way more expensive here). Overall I'm very happy with it, no issues whatsoever .
I’m a fan of this design when it comes to accuracy. It’s essentially a Savage design. As long as the barrel is quality then that design is a proven super accurate design. The floating bolt head is a great feature for the money. In my opinion you don’t have to pay big money to get a super accurate bolt gun. The money starts stacking up when you want certain features on a bolt gun. I’ve owned several Savage rifles over the years and all have been super accurate. The bolt isn’t super smooth and has some slop, but dang do they shoot good. They honestly have been more consistent shooters overall then other rifles I paid a lot more for. Glad to see this Remington is solid too.
It's a savage design that was plagiarised into the marlin XL-7. When Remington took over marlin , they then took the design and made the it Remington 783. From memory the 783 and xl-7 bolt is interchangeable. I know a few guys who said the marlin XL-7 was a great gun once you bedded it down.
I have mine in 308, had a hard time finding ammo during the initial pandemic, but that isn’t so bad now. Just the price of ammo is still high. Because of the pandemic, I haven’t shot anything for a couple of years now, but at least I have ammo now.
I have one of these in 6.5 cm, took my first buck with it back in the day. So glad I bought it! MDT makes chassis systems for the 783 I turned mine into a target rifle and its uses aics magazines now.
proof that nutn will give credit where it is due. everyone in the gunstore i work at talks down on remington but i havent seen any of their rifles throw down those groups
Recently purchased off the used rack at my local store. Dime size group at 150 yards with .308 Federal Gold Match 185 gr. Was amazed at accuracy! Not letting this one go anytime soon!
When I was in law school I attended an upper level class with all the law school elite students on law review and moot court. They were like, "ya, we are going to ban ALL guns." I was thinking you people don't know my people. Seriously, the mindset of most lawyers is that the 2nd amendment is an anachronism and needs to be bent into being a legal fiction. I always mention that this is not a good idea because a defense authorization act in the 80s gave the President the control of the national guard so now only gun owning Americans are the state militias since the National Guard are now under Federal control. I am one of the few pro-second amendment lawyers out there and keep a low profile so my law license number does not get pulled by the bar association. People, they really are out to get your guns. It is not hyperbole. You have been warned.
Both "President" Biden and now Texas governor Candidate O'Roarke have both said, on national TV in main media outlets in public that they are intent on taking away your guns. Period, paragraph, end of book, forever, amen. There is no doubt, no rhetoric. As in your words, no hyperbole. Plain and simple, going to take your guns, hell or high water. Soi-disant President Biden has said, and I quote, "the amendment is not a permanent thing." So, my question as a non-attorney is, does that mean he will repeal the 13th? He and Obama and Bush Jr violated the 4th as if it did not exist.
I went to law school in the Midwest and live there, i.e. a purple battleground state. In the rural areas, lawyers carry all the time. In the urban areas of the state, guns are hated.
Awesome review as always! They make this model (HBT) in 16.5 and 24 inch barrels. I believe yours you’re testing is the 16.5. Awesome little rifle! Thanks for the awesome content over the years!
This literally goes to show how out of touch and uneducated Nutn is on most all the gun topics he talks about. If you watch you will notice almost across the board. The dude is a idiot.
I purchased one in 308 from Cabela's several years ago on sale At 250$. Regardless of price one the best guns I ever purchased. Have taken deer elk and a ram with it.
I got one of the last 783’s produced in Huntsville Alabama. Was brand new, Just sitting in the corner of a shop in Huntsville. The muzzle brake had me hooked and I took it home.
I have two of these. One in .270 Win and one in 30-06. I only handload, and each one is two MOA, or better, depending on the recipe. I put Boyd stocks on each of them, also with Nikon scopes on each. I absolutely love these rifles.
My wife whitetail deer hunts in Wv with a 783 rem youth .308 win 20” barrel. I’ve been hand loading for 50 years and loaded up some 125 flat point hollow point (Sierra 30-30 bullet ) with H 4895 at about 2500fps !! My loads wouldn’t bolt up ! Inserted round and bolt wouldn’t close ! Called REM and sent 783 back and the camber was not bored deep enough! She hunted with her Marlin 7y 243 . Got 783 back and it shoots great very accurate! She killed her buck last year with the 783 nice little rifle!!
I bought a used one in 270 at a pawn shop for $270. I spent $550 on a new .270Win barrel with a 1-8 twist so I can take advantage of the new 6.8 high BC bullets. The thing shoots 1/2-3/4in at 200yards with a couple handloads.
They go on sale almost every year for $240 to $270 with a scope new every christmas. Things are so solid they rarely are seen sold though, now i know why
I bought a Rem 770 in 7mm08 for $269....8 years ago. It is a TACK DRIVER. Sure the bolt action is a bit clunky and the stock was cheap....but the cheap scope that came with it was just fine for the woods and against whitetails. I put it in a boyd's stock last year to dress it up and also a new scope.....its still a tack driver. And the sticky clunky bolt has finally smoothed itself out.
My Winchester XPR 270 makes me feel the same way. For the price, the XPR performs at a much higher level. Very happy with this rifle and it had taken many deer. I do wish it was a can ready model though.
One concern Nutnfancy, at that is: at the 16:15 to 16:45 mark of the video (where you title the review) it looks like you are struggling to open, cycle and then close the action, even hitting upward with the heel of the palm to open the bolt. Why was that? Is the action that stiff and difficult to maneuver? Thanks.
I have one and I struggled with because I had the original scope and rings and then I updated it to a better bushnell and still shot horrible. I didnt give up on it and I bought a leupold and and warne rings and I shocked how well it shot. I was blaming the gun in the beginning but as long as you buy a good scope and good rings and throw the other stuff away you will have a good rifle.
Same here. I took off the default scope and had a nikon put on, I think they over torqued the screws, still had some issues. When I went to a leupold, mounted it myself, this rifle is the most accurate rifle I have ever owned. Wanted to buy my wife one but they are hard to find now.
Awesome! But if you DO want to go down the rabbit hole, Timney makes triggers for it, there are match grade aftermarket barrels available and there are stock and chassis options that allow you to use aics mags - Oryx and MDT LSS for a couple.
Wow Nikon and the remington 783 both discontinued 😞. And someone correct me if I’m wrong but I heard Crimson Trace bought the Nikon devision of rifle scopes division and they have what appears to be a good warranty. Would love to see a review of their scopes and deep dive into it. But yes my 783 I’m going to be putting into MDT chassis system in the next two months with the side folding stock. I want to make it as compact for hunting trips as pissible.
Hey Nutnfancy! Love the channel and your reviews. Just a small point from the video in this 783. In the field you are slapping the bolt handle an extra 2-5 times on each reload. The video of Sean shows correct bolt technique...Up&Back then forward& down. 2 smooth motions and zero slapping at the bolt handle. Sean is smooth as butter. I know it’s a $300 rifle, but be kind to it.
I've used a Remington 760 Game Master .308 sense i was 13, so now 20 years now, and also have 7600's but they are the very best deer rifles available! AMERICA STRONG STAY FREE LONG LIVE THE REPUBLIC
This thing is awesome. As much as I want it I'm busy getting situated with supplies for me and my mom. But my buddy has one in .223 for varmints at his parents property. Thing is dead nuts accurate.
I have the same rifle. Bought it last December with my Trump $600 stimulus check. Added a vortex diamond back scope. Chambered in 6.5 creed. I got the gun, and scope for $499 as a combo. Can't wait to slay some deer this fall.
Got my 30-06 783 years ago and sold it to a friend of mine in hard times. He sold it back to for the same price and wants it back now that we actually have some rounds through it. Tough luck cupcake.
About three years ago I had a choice between buying a Marlin X7 and the Remington 783 both in 30-06. I chose the X7 and I don't regret it. I bought it used in good condition for about $270 and it has been great at killing deer.
Same gun one was made when marlin was marlin, X7 became the 783 when Remington took over marlin. Marlin was probably a bit better on the quality control.
I have a XL7 in 25-06 and a 783 in 308 both are sub moa guns with several different factory ammos. Corelokts, fusion, eld-X are my personal best with both!! But I don’t think you could’ve went wrong with either
It reminds me of the Ruger American ranch.... I have one in 5.56 that uses ar magazine and it's a really awesome rifle especially with this primary arms reticle it's 500m easy hit gun and I mean real easy with 55gr fmj
Mine only likes 150 grain Federal Deer Season XP, but it shoots 0.5 inches at 100 yards with it. Everything else is over an inch. The scope that came with it sucks.
I have one of these in 223, in the standard black configuration. My only 2 minor complaints, the trigger was gritty on mine (some are better than others) and the stock was a little slick. Timney makes an outstanding trigger for these, and a little Talon tape fixed both. This rifle outshoots me !
Remington is definitely still around. The ammo and the firearms company split, the president of the arms company just posted something a bit ago that they were shipping guns now after the restructuring. The 783, most 700s and even some Model 7 (so underrated) sku’s are still in production, along with the 870s and such. It’ll be different than the Rem. that we know but that’s not necessarily a bad thing, Freedom group drove them and Marlin into the dirt, this could be the best thing for them, only time will tell. It is sad that basically leftist posturing and the anti gun machine forced Remington damn near out of business. Whether you like Rem. or not it’s an American icon and the oldest gun co. in our country, if the ant 2a crowd can kill it that’s a major blow to our heritage as gun guys and that means they can take any company down. Best wishes to you Nutn, Remington and any who took the time to read all this lol
@@YankeeWoodcraft What no they are not, Rem Arms is still producing their 870's, while Ruger bought and is making the Marlins now, but Ruger does not make any Remington shotguns, I just spoke with Rem Arms and first quarter of 2023 they will be making the Legendary Remington 7600's again as well, and Rem Arms is split from Remington Ammo now, and is Employee owned now as well and will still be making the guns out of the Ilion NY plant from what they told me
@@YankeeWoodcraft yeah not true at all lol. Marlin was owned by the Freedom Group who owned Remington too but has nothing to do with Ruger’s acquisition and manufacturing of Marlin lever actions, however I’ve seen some Ruger made Marlins, they are excellent lol. Remington arms was sold and now owned by another owner but are slowly spinning up production on all of their rifles again. From what I’ve seen of a couple new 700 models locally, they look to be much nicer than the later Freedom Group Remington guns were, which is nice. To Nutns question in the video, the 783 Threaded model is still very much in production, not discontinued, if most of them shoot as good as his it’s more than a good competitor for a budget rifle for hunting or a starter gun for a build along with the Savages and stuff like that.
I agree with you!! Love my Rem 783 chambered fir 22-250! One inch groups at 200 yrds easy with zero bullet drop and Using optic Nikon Active Target special 4-12x40 bdc! It’s a predator killing beast using Hornady vmax!
I have a 770 in 308. It’s not worth anything to anyone but me, so I keep it. It feels cheap and the bolt is hard to operate sometimes. But it shoots AMAZING! A true beater gun worth more than what I paid.
Just seeing this today 8/1/22 I took my 783 to the range this morning. I had a Sig Buck master scope 3x9x40 .first 2 shots same hole . After making adjustments it was a 1 inch group. I need to go back to the 100 yard line and group it.
Didn't know they were that accurate. About the only things I knew about the 770 was Walmart sold them and its possible to snap the bolt handle off in very cold weather(granted I've only heard of this happening once).
770 7mm mag did what I needed it to do. I haven't shot it in idk...10 years. I picked up a howa model 1500 in 308 the other day and im only deer hunting up to 300 yrds
I have one in 270 win.. I had used it in a game culling operation over 4 years.. Without any hesitation I am a firm believer in the reliability, accuracy, functionality and sterling performance of this ugly duckling.. I filled up the hollow stock with builders foam to eliminate the very cheap sound of "emptyness" when I accidentally bumped it against something.. That is the only modification I did. This is a very efficient piped-up Tupperware which has never let me down.. Regards from Namibia
After buying a Remington 7600 I can tell you they didn’t need “the left” to put themout of business. They did it themselves with the build quality. Having said that I do like it all the same, crap fit and finish aside.
@@Alan.livingston They didn't care , PE loaded it up with Debt stripped cash out for years and then let it die. It's the modus operandi of bad Private Equity funds who run businesses like that, unfortunately there are a lot of them. Your granny sounds like mine , buy once cry once!
@@leadhead7338 in my neck of the woods a 7600 will set you back at least $1400. For the same money you could buy a Lithgow, CZ, Tikka or many other hunting rifles that look and feel better put together. Mostly for me it’s little things like the screws on the rear sights being made out of super cheap soft metal, the dust cover on the action is just a $0.05 piece of plastic, the finish on my stock wasn’t very refined. It just feels like someone built it to a price point.
I bought one of these last year and I have had a few issues with it. The crappy sling hoops broke cause the plastic stock is kinda poop. The firing pin hits a little light and some steel cased ammo takes two strikes to go off. Other than that it's accurate and for the price I definitely don't regret it. I am planning on getting a hardwood stock for it at some point though just to pretty it up a bit.
had mine since 18/19 ish in 6.5 creed hbt, sanded out around the barrel to free float it and it drives tacks. The Hbt. in particular got overlooked due to Rems poor reputation. My most fun and enjoyable rifle to shoot.
Found one on the used market in .223. Never shot it with the factory stock. Dropped it in an Oryx Chassis and it’ll hammer nails. I just wish I could shoot better. An amazing value for your dollar. Need to beef up the scope on mine but for now it’ll do.
I bought one of these used three or four years ago from my local gun store. Wasn't even looking for any particular gun but for whatever reason it caught my eye and I didn't have a modern bolt action. Honestly didn't realize I had such a affordable gem of a rifle. I'll have to take it out again soon and see how the accuracy of mine fares. Its usually not my go to plinking rifle. Just talking .30 cal I'm more likely to grab my Ar10 or my Garand. My 783 is in 30-06 and has a mystery scope it came with used on it. Very well could be a factory mounted scope. Haven't searched for markings on it.
My 1990’s Remington 700PSS does sub MOA consistently. It’s the 26” barrel . I’ve pitted it against my Sako 85 with set trigger and it goes toe to toe against it all day. The groups would match my Sako or sometimes better than. But of course the Sako has a better trigger.
@@zelenizub2036 they stopped making the gen 2 .308 predators with AICS mags for some reason! I managed to find a new one at a gun shop and bought it. It's one of my favorite guns.
I might have missed it but what caliber are you shooting on this video? First time viewer and immediately subscribed, thanks for the info. Been looking for a GOOD 1st bolt action rifle and I think I found it. It’ll be for long distance newbie target shooting. Merry Christmas & Happy New Year from Southern California
I own one and love it. I have had it for 3or4 years. I have 5 different barrels for it. They are easy to change out. When you look at the design , it is quality. Backfire tv says it is junk and dont buy it but I think they are full of sh-t. I have a timney trigger on it and a leupold back country scope mount on it but I upgrade all of my rifles. I have 6 700s but hunt with the 783. It just fits me.
I have a feeling that Remington didn't pay Backfire TV to say something good, so they got the dirty end of the stick. Unfortunately, most people don't realize that this is the way many TH-cam channels work. Money does the talking.
Thats a sweet little 783 you've got there. But the barrel on your gun is a lot shorter than 22 inches. I'm guessing 16 ¹/² or so, just long enough so Remington didn't accidentally make a short barrel rifle out of one of them.
Does anyone know if the 783 is built on the Rem 700 specs? As in, I want to get one and drop it in an MDT chassis that is spec'd for a Rem 700 barreled action but I cannot find any info anywhere if its built on the Rem 700 specs. Not sure if it will fit
I've taken many a deer with my 783 in .270WIN topped with a Leupold VX-2. Almost all heart shots and they all went down in seconds. I named her "Formality" because if I see deer and I have my 783, I'm dragging it out of the woods. I've read of a lot of 700 owners who got a 783 as a beater gun who ended up taking it out every time and making it their go-to. One day while dragging out a nice big bodied 9 pointer, I bumped a doe, dropped the buck, swung my 783 up into position and shot her on the run. Tossed her in the sled for a two-fer that day.

There's a reason that Remington discontinued the 788 back in the early eighties... Because it was a $99 department store rifle intended for poors that regularly outshot the expensive 700s. Remington couldn't have that. The 783 was close to the same story.
Yes. Value rifle as a tool vs expensive rifle as a toy.
Others have disagreed with my choices but I buy what I want for the value it brings me.
sounds like it was discontinued because it was too expensive to produce for the price it was sold.
Mossberg did the same thing with the Maverick 88 and the Mossberg 500. Now they sell twice as many Mav 88s as 500s, but they seem to be OK with that.
Same story here man, think I paid $289 for mine. Absolute tack driver in .308
Same here and I have not fired mine yet... wondering about the barrel life in 243....
I bought mine for $1.75. Top that.
YA!!! Finally the 783 is getting the respect it deserves. Mine is 300WM and it is just a great shooter

I got one in .308 as a beater hunting rifle and first groups out of it were well sub MOA. I was very happy with my purchase!
Unfortunately I'm in Commie Cali this rifle is about $600 in 2023
I have the longer barreled 308. Absolutely love it. No matter how hot I get the barrel, it still shoots the same. Awesome rifle!
I have had similar experiences with the 783 as well. My dad picked it up for a little over 300 bucks five or so years ago, and he runs it out of the box with the 3-9 scope that came with it.
We zeroed it once, and he uses it for hunting due to it being so light to carry around in his old age.
i love the 'always wear safety glasses' the moment the guy shooting isn't.
Bought one of these locally at a wally world for 180ish on clearance. I always thought it was a solid rifle other than the stock. The molded in front sling stud broke off from very light bipod use.
Right at moa with off the shelf hunting .30-06
Trigger was impressive for the price.
I dropped my 783 in to an MDT XRS chassis. Super capable at the range but not too precious to hunt with. Absolutely love it.
proof that nutn will give credit where it is due. everyone in the gunstore i work at talks down on remington but i havent seen any of their rifles throw down those groups
Been a big 700 BDL fan for years but never thought about economy rifle being this accurate but now I think I want a 783 after your review .
I don't understand people who don't believe it when others say they want to harm them.
Where did you go to law school? I take it you don't live in the South.
@@9thchild358 right, several of the Attorneys I've interacted with here in NC carry daily. 👍
Soi-disant President Biden has said, and I quote, "the amendment is not a permanent thing."
So, my question as a non-attorney is, does that mean he will repeal the 13th? He and Obama and Bush Jr violated the 4th as if it did not exist.
I went to law school in the Midwest and live there, i.e. a purple battleground state. In the rural areas, lawyers carry all the time. In the urban areas of the state, guns are hated.
I bought two Remington 783 back to back! I was impressed with it in .243 so I bought it in .270 as well.
Awesome review as always! They make this model (HBT) in 16.5 and 24 inch barrels. I believe yours you’re testing is the 16.5. Awesome little rifle! Thanks for the awesome content over the years!
As of 11/19/23 Remington is STILL producing the 783 & their IS more than a few companies making 10 round mags for the 783
Who makes 10 rds mags for the 783 and where can I get a stock for it?
@@spartanlukas You can get a stock from Boyd’s.
Looks like a good setup. Time will tell. Nice to see a rifle review again.
I bought a 783 450 bushmaster around Christmas this year I absolutely love it it will drop them in the same hole just about every time
I got one of the last 783’s produced in Huntsville Alabama. Was brand new, Just sitting in the corner of a shop in Huntsville. The muzzle brake had me hooked and I took it home.
Been watching since late 2008. Almost 14 years ago! Holy crap that makes me feel old!
Ditto. I can’t believe it either.
I've had a 710 in 30.06 since it came out. Does everything I need
Dig the show nutn...I also dig the watch..........gota take a closer look at the Remington 783...KEEP ON ROCKING IT!........nutnfancy...........
This is why I'm glad I bought this rifle when everyone else was telling me to pay more money for other budget brands...
My Winchester XPR 270 makes me feel the same way. For the price, the XPR performs at a much higher level. Very happy with this rifle and it had taken many deer. I do wish it was a can ready model though.
This is the first review that's is positive on the 783 model.. Thanks mate ..😁🇦🇺🤙
I bought one yesterday for 349$ from Cabellas. Im super impressed so far, just gonna use as a hunting beater but I am really happy with it so far.
I think he was raving about it because it’s fine the way it is! And it’s cheap
I have the varmint laminate variant with a 26" heavy barrel. And yes I'm getting half Inch MOA In 243. I have a Weaver 3 x 9 x 40 scope .
I own one in 300 Win Mag. Bought a few extra mags too. mounted a Bushnell Elite 4500 on it. Thanks for the review!!
Thanks
I have a 783 chambered in .270 Winchester.....what a sleeper. It shoots straight. No question about it.
It’s a tool beat the hell out of it.
I've used a Remington 760 Game Master .308 sense i was 13, so now 20 years now, and also have 7600's but they are the very best deer rifles available!

This thing is awesome. As much as I want it I'm busy getting situated with supplies for me and my mom. But my buddy has one in .223 for varmints at his parents property. Thing is dead nuts accurate.
Yup. I got a 1moa group at 500 meters with my 308 which is probably as good as I can personally shoot with the stock rifle. These rifles are amazing.
I have a Rem 783 300 win mag. I modified it with a boyds stock and put in a bottle metal from pacific tool and gauge, to take after market mags.
I have the same rifle. Bought it last December with my Trump $600 stimulus check. Added a vortex diamond back scope. Chambered in 6.5 creed. I got the gun, and scope for $499 as a combo. Can't wait to slay some deer this fall.
Finally, it's a great value option, glad I picked up a few when I did. 👌🏻
Mine is a tack driver in .308
Got my 30-06 783 years ago and sold it to a friend of mine in hard times.
783 is better
I have a XL7 in 25-06 and a 783 in 308 both are sub moa guns with several different factory ammos. Corelokts, fusion, eld-X are my personal best with both!! But I don’t think you could’ve went wrong with either
It reminds me of the Ruger American ranch.... I have one in 5.56 that uses ar magazine and it's a really awesome rifle especially with this primary arms reticle it's 500m easy hit gun and I mean real easy with 55gr fmj
I’ve got a gen 1 ranch in 300blk and a gen 2 in .556 that takes ar mags both are great rifles and shoot sub moa with my hand loads.
Imho the Ruger American is the best of the lower cost bolt actions out there.
I’ve got one(308) and love it. I changed the stock to Boyds.
Ruger us producing the new 870 phenomenally better.
Just got one. Thank you for all you do🙂
Got one in .300 win mag love it shoots great and smooth bolt just an awesome rifle in every way
I have a 770 in 308.
Bolt handles BREAKING OFF is the weak link, I've actually been at the range when 2 of them broke off.
05:50 MambaMag 10rds mags are available now.
After buying a Remington 7600 I can tell you they didn’t need “the left” to put themout of business. They did it themselves with the build quality. Having said that I do like it all the same, crap fit and finish aside.
That can be blamed on the Private Equity company who owned them !
@@thehopperhopes6365 Penny wise, pound foolish as my Grand mother would say.
@@Alan.livingston They didn't care , PE loaded it up with Debt stripped cash out for years and then let it die. It's the modus operandi of bad Private Equity funds who run businesses like that, unfortunately there are a lot of them. Your granny sounds like mine , buy once cry once!
what? i own many 760's and 7600's my 35 Whelen 7600 is from the very last batch in 2019 and its still amazing!
This is impressive.
Thanks Todd
What da eff? Lol Todds comment was posted one week ago ? How could that be? Lol

I take it you were able to cycle the bolt with your chairforce limpwristic bolt manipulation style that gave you fits with the Ruger Hawkeye?
Never knew about this rifle, sweet little bolt gun man.
had mine since 18/19 ish in 6.5 creed hbt, sanded out around the barrel to free float it and it drives tacks. The Hbt. in particular got overlooked due to Rems poor reputation. My most fun and enjoyable rifle to shoot.
Great review!
Own it!
Love it!
Found one on the used market in .223. Never shot it with the factory stock. Dropped it in an Oryx Chassis and it’ll hammer nails. I just wish I could shoot better. An amazing value for your dollar. Need to beef up the scope on mine but for now it’ll do.
Love the GRV's nutn! Hoping for a redskies part 2 someday!
I saw them available at Bass Pro shop today.
Cool suppressor wrap, nice gun, good stuff thank u nutn
Probably is factory junk, put a decent scope on it and have fun
I bought this in .243 in 2015. I had it rebarreled with a 24 in Shilen match in 6.5 Creedmoor and got 1/4 min accuracy.
Great rifle! I had one until the divorce, she sold it.
Thanks for the review… still only going to watch on YT (which needs more gun content.) Don’t abandon the fight.
It's not out of production. You can find them everywhere
Bolt actions really need to have AICS magazone well options. It's the closest thing we have to a standard for bolt actions.
Ruger American predator/ranch, I do not look any further.
@@zelenizub2036 they stopped making the gen 2 .308 predators with AICS mags for some reason! I managed to find a new one at a gun shop and bought it. It's one of my favorite guns.
@@Synergy7Studios i got 308 and grendel predator also grendel ranch but can't find 7,62x39.
Got one in 223 black , very accurate
Thank you mr fancy
Thats a sweet little 783 you've got there. But the barrel on your gun is a lot shorter than 22 inches. I'm guessing 16 ¹/² or so, just long enough so Remington didn't accidentally make a short barrel rifle out of one of them.
Does anyone know if the 783 is built on the Rem 700 specs? As in, I want to get one and drop it in an MDT chassis that is spec'd for a Rem 700 barreled action but I cannot find any info anywhere if its built on the Rem 700 specs. Not sure if it will fit
Have this exact same rifle in 308 not bad for the money the only problem i have is with rem out of business can we get parts if needed
Paul Harrell Just shot up his Remington 783, in 223 Rem. JS.
Did they make left-hand models ?
I got mine for $250 used! Just like the one you were shooting but in .223 phenomenal rifle!
I paid $1.75 for mine. Top that.
