Bummer about the trans!! Just get the rebuild kit. That way you KNOW its good. And I would highly recommend the Pro 5.0 shifter. Same price as MGW and its SOOO GOOD!
It's funny the 91 GT in there this weekend that had the transmission and engine pulled and it had the Pro 5.0 shifter. Maybe i'll get that after all as the guy said he liked it.
Hey dude what we've been doing is going and getting a t-45 out of a new Edge 99-04 V6 and using your tail shaft off of the T V and taking your speedometer gear and marking it and drilling the tail shaft so you can put the clip in it and using that it's just as strong if not stronger and 90% of those V6 has the gears are perfect in. Ask your buddy there if he's done any like that because down here in Florida and Tennessee we've been getting them for 99 to a hundred fifty bucks out of the boneyards.
I had to do a 5spd conversion on my 1987 vert GT 347. So I splurged and bought a t5 z spec from lmr. That was 3 years ago. It’s held up to some abuse. Last year I purchased a tko600 for my 83 GT street strip project. Waiting to install that and finish the 351w for it. And just recently I purchased a refreshed t5 from eBay to do a t5 conversion on my 89GT. Still waiting to install that trans as well. After a nightmare scenario with a AOD 🤮 destroying the thrust bearing and crank on a new stroker I decided to spend big on transmissions.
I told you I would be here after the stream . And damn breaking into the transmission is some real shit. That is so cool that you have a chance to learn so much from Matt that you can put to good use and keep your cars running yourself. Keep digging man you are doing great
Either way I would rebuild it on the channel, it just may be later rather than for this car. My convertible actually does have a T-56 Magnum. Probably not for the SSP though.
Sorry about the transmission... a rebuild is cheaper & you could beef it up a little. A new transmission saves you time where you could work other ares on the ssp. If your still planning to autocross the ssp id see what a few of those guy recommend.

Man I hate prying on things & bustin my knuckles lol!!! I would say do a rebuild on your transmission (wich im doing in the next month or 2 on mine) that way you can beef it up with the billet cluster support hardened solid syncro keys brass shift fork pads and shim it right that way you & matt know whats goin on and how the gears are ridin... did you see brew2l's videos on his new t5?? im building basically the same thing and its worth it.Good luck in your decision either way!

Good video man. I would just rebuild the transmission it's not hard .I rebuilt my transmission my self. Even upgraded alot of the parts to make it a cobra spec. I even installed and billet aluminum cluster bearing retainer. Check out Eric the car guy he did a series of videos rebuilding his t 5 for his Fairmont, he even did that series of videos with transmission expert Paul Cangialosi and author of How to rebuild & modify Hi-Performance Transmissions. This guy know his stuff and has over 30 years of experience.
Keep the T5.. nothing shifts as smooth as a T5.. rebuild with the steel bearing retainer and either a 3.35 first gear or 2.95 first gear HD gearset... the TKO500 and 600 are much notchier.. unless you can swing a T56...
I have a 93 5.0 hatchback and I broke the 3rd gear shaft so I got a astro performance high alloy rebuilt trans for $750 not sure if there still around it was in 2006 but might wanna check them out
Sucks about the trans but a rebuild would be more content for the page. Also you know you got good parts and cheaper to rebuild then buy a brand new trans.

Hope you have been having a good weekend. I spent all afternoon til after dark with a shop light replacing the shocks and struts all the way around on my wife's car. I feel it today. Not as young as I once was. Thank God for my impact wrench because some of those bolts weren't coming out otherwise.
Hah hah, i'm going to always see that segment differently now LOL. The impact wrench is a LIFE saver when you can use it for sure. Good job getting it done!
My radiator support is bent way up on passenger side (from my sister driving it into a hole) I will address this one day. I will let you guys do it for free.😎

I say a TKO if you are going to autocross or drag. Need some beefy gears brother! I"m going to experience just how weak or strong a 4 cylinder t5 really is. I have been told they hold up and I have been told they do not. But there is only one way to find out. 6500 rpm drop will tell the story lmao!
Dude don't even bother with T5 rebuild, get a TKO or 3550 and be done with it. Yes it's more money but you won't have any more problems with your trans for a long time.

That sucks Lmr has a Tremec world class Heavy duty for $1896.99 I don't know what kind of money u want to put into the SSP!! Man I have that same shifter don't rag on my Econo shifter Brew2L has 1 in his other Foxbody the 1 before he started messing with the Cobra clone he said it's not a bad shifter so far!! I will probably replace the 1 I have later on down the road I still have to buy some more parts I guess it will be ok as long as I don't go throwing gears like I am crazy!! Believe Matt with all the work I have coming my way on my notch when the shit hits the fan I was hoping this April or May maybe next April or May I hope I have more to worry about then a shifter bud!!! But yeah man that blows about ur Transmission but u guy's already knew something was wrong didn't u guy's?? Well buddy until next time u guy's stay safe down there!! I say do it .it will be a good learning experience and a nother notch in your belt.

For what you are building I’d just stick with the T5. Either rebuild yourself or contact the gentleman at Junkyard Dogs and send it to him.
