    Honestly 60HP gain with a bunch of overland weight is totally worth it & especially is if you plan on keeping your truck long term // motor swaps come with their own problems. Overland vehicles need to keep their reliability.

    That S/C kit is super nice and clean looking. Magnuson is the best! Kind of disappointed in your increase. I would thought to see more more of an increase...weird!! But very little bit helps. I just got the odin vmp supercharger build by magnuson on my 17 f150 5.0 and I got power increase of about 80% with full fuel upgrades running E-85 putting down 712rwhp on 37s, it’s crazy..bit wild and scary!!

    • @Clapxiomatic
      @Clapxiomatic 3 ปีที่แล้ว +3

      Yeah, but this is a kit for a stock engine thats meant to be as reliable as before. Of course you could put a smaller pully on and tune aggressively for E85 and increase injector size, etc and make 450 HP on the 3.5 V6 but this aint that. Its a simple kit.

    As a Tacoma owner, this video convinced me if I want more power, trade the Tacoma in utilizing the extra 5k not spent on a supercharger to get a stock v8 truck (or ecoboost v6) that runs 87 octane and makes more power. Assuming some driveline loss you are looking at 350hp at the crank .

    • @tacomabeast
      @tacomabeast  3 ปีที่แล้ว +11

      Just remember reliability, plays a big roll in this.

    • @Sieran83
      @Sieran83 3 ปีที่แล้ว +4

      @@tacomabeast I had a '12 F-150 Ecoboost and the thing was a beast taking off from the line or when towing... completely stock. However, I traded it in for my '20 Taco because after 67K miles (not bad for 8 years old) I had already been though 4 sets of spark plugs, had to drill a small hole in the bottom of the intercooler because it would near hydrolock on humid days, the two turbos were already dumping a ton of oil into the intercooler and smoke out the exhaust after sitting a day, the rear window decided to leak and soak half the headliner, the drive shaft slip yolk seizing up....
      I could keep going on and on about that truck.
      Anyways, to your point, reliability is a huge factor. So is not having to worry about all these other little annoyances.

    So don’t get me wrong here. It’s your truck. You do you. I’m glad you’re happy with it. If it were my truck, this would probably be the last thing I’d want to do. First off it’s expensive. I see people in the comments quoting $6500-$7000 for 61 hp!? No thanks. Also, a supercharger is incredibly inefficient in the way it makes power. It robs power from the engine in order to operate. A turbo would’ve been a better option IF you feel like you have to boost your taco. Thirdly, boosting any vehicle decreases not only the reliability, but the longevity of said vehicle. The biggest pro to Toyota’s is the unmatched reliability. That is now gone. Forth, fuel economy is way worse and you have to use premium fuel. That cost adds up.
    If it were me, I’d stick with the re-gearing and just get a tune to maximize the performance of the stock v6. Again, it’s your truck and I’m glad you’re happy with it. Vehicles are like adult legos. We can make them our own through customization. 👍

    • @jeffreycoon9634

      Congratulations!!! You won the smartest comment award! What I find completely disgusting is after 3 years it only has 3 likes and in the comments above the idiots are arguing about how reliable a supercharger is and the really stupid ones are calling it a turbo. But they are arguing with each other about how great and reliable that truck is now with the supercharger, that some are calling a turbo, compared to a $400 tune.

But after watching this You will eat a 3rd gen off the line and walk all day long and on every trail that he decides to go. That is why 2nd gens are a hot commodity here in Hawaii and go for about the same as a newer 3rd gen. Only mainlanders buying 3rd gens here when they move here LOL.

      @Larry Byrd my parents and I had the same 3.4 tacomas. Their's was stock. Mine supercharged at the dealer with 8 miles. They get 16mpg combined. I get 18mpg combined and I have a heavy foot. This is travelling the same roads everyday. They owned my Tacoma after I sold it to them and were surprised they got 21 to 22 hwy since they don't have a heavy foot like me. Sometimes they eat more fuel because we make use of that blower 🤣🤣🤣🤣🤣

    Does a cold air intake or a snorkel have any impact on supercharger performance? Is there any benefit (aside from increase height of snorkel) to changing out the stock intake when using a supercharger like this?

    Does this supercharger come with a customizable ECU tune? The Ovtune Twin Turbo comes with it and I believe it's cheaper. Matt does some awesome things.

    Now that you've got the Acceleration, you may want to look at Upgrading the Deceleration. Drum brakes suck. I don't know if there are Disk based upgrades for the Taco now, but I'd look at adding BEEF-ier Disks to the fronts, because of all that added weight, but the backs will help stop that beast too....

    Some of you guys are looking at this setup all wrong. The supercharger with stock intake, exhaust, fuel injectors, and other stock internals is very limited with psi and power output. The more boost the more damage to the engine.
    For a simple bolt on on all stock parts, 60+ whp is excellent and pretty safe for the engine.
    If we are here is because we care about overlanding, gear, and Tacoma’s not race trucks or rice rockets.

      @@victorgirouard1543 that's what I was thinking too. Toyota fans will frown upon anything not Toyota but that's ok. However, I'm talking strictly numbers here. A Ford performance tune on the ranger will have but around 280whp and 300wtq. I'm not brand loyal so I'll go with the Ranger over the taco.

    I have the kit on preorder and I don’t have a winch yet, but it is something that I’m thinking about getting down the line. Since you had to make some adjustments to the kit to fit with a winch, would the opposite also be possible? By that I mean relocating the winch controller to higher up on the passenger side of the grille given that the inter cooler pump is mounted in the location that Magnuson intended.

      If your changing the diameter on your tire, meaning going to a bigger tire size, we recommend you re-gear. Then you can star looking into adding more HP.

  • @NorincioAgnaran
    @NorincioAgnaran 3 ปีที่แล้ว +1

    ROFL Dustin tried to save you after the dyno 14:53 by saying "the bigger weighted tires" but you still kept pushing how much your truck weighs. On the road your truck has to push it's own weight, on the dyno your truck is pushing the rollers (and they don't care how heavy your truck is.) The weight hurts your acceleration, not horsepower.
    Otherwise you've definitely earned the Tacoma"Beast" That is one amazing taco!

    The tires are probably robbing hrsp after tightening those straps and pulling them into the rollers more than the weight of the vehicle normally wood. That would increase your rolling friction substantially and throw of your numbers if not taken into account..
