Will Bad RNG Still Scratch The Itch? My Thoughts on The First Descendant.

- Let's take a look at The First Descendant, how it fits into the looter shooter genre and what makes its loot system unique.
I touch upon the problem of its arduous dedicated drops, and time consuming quest design.
Can the mod system make up for such an extreme grind? Let me know what you think.
There is grinding and then there is Outriders then there is The First DescendanT, the rng is bad and doing a mission or boss 30 times just becomes boring then I will juts stop playing the general rounds don't drop as much which doesn't help if you are fighting a long battle. The game is good I like it but things need to change on some of the things in game.
I have Ultimate Lepic and doing a mission for a certain item also drops normal lepic I have 13 of them now as the drop rates are just bad.
I think that there is a chance that you will never get your item even with high drop chances.
You may just have gotten unlucky.
I got all the ultimate bunny parts in less than 20 runs. And around 6 hours of grinding.
I put about 1.5 hours into ultra epic last night and got 2/4.
In this process I am one part short from making 4 other miscellaneous descendants and have also made 2 weapons….
These odd for me have been much better than warframe.
Keep in mind that some people will just be lucky and others not so much… you can’t create drop tables that won’t lead to some people being the unlucky ones even with 80+ percent drop rates.
If putting 4-10 hours into unlocking a character is intimidating to you… it’s not the games fault, you are spending time in a game genre that you do not enjoy.

Oh dang you got Ult Lepic? That is pretty rad... I need to revisit outriders to see what you mean. It's been a while since I played... I remember enjoying it but it's always fun to compare mechanics. It does feel like something needs to change in this case, though, I agree.
It sounds like you got some sweet drops there, and I love the vibe of having several unfinished crafting projects for which you are waiting on parts. It's a fun state of the game.
I feel like having those dedicated drops have a very low chance of dropping elsewhere would be a cool mechanic. But I can also see how making everything a world drop is not a good idea.
I love this type of game but sometimes over 20 runs of the same mission for just one part can feel a bit repetitive. Perhaps chasing down one character or weapon needs to be broken into shorter sessions over a longer period for me.
I hope you get the gley's ult parts soon, I'd love to try out an ultimate soon but it might be too much of a grind for me!
Reminds me of Warframe. Do missions to get an RNG controlled item rather than just being an RNG drop. Boss fight to open them is an added pain in the ass since you still also have the long crafting timer. Should be one or the other. It's worse than warframe. But I'm having fun for now. We'll see after the main story is over. I've make a couple of base purchases to support the game because I am enjoying it. Free to play never means Free to develop and if I "only" get 40 hours out of it, that is equal to many paid titles for value and they made the pay optional.
Yeah, you're absolutely right, I love to support the devs. (Although with the recent industry news, it gives a different feel.) i think the RNG controlled item is interesting, but would be cool to see it used more sparingly. But I get it, nothing is free! 🙂

@@zeroxepntance I tried to give it another shot but it seems like I need to pay or trade for platinum currency for more unlocks. I don't mind paying for games, but the premium platinum currencies kinda give me the ick
though i doubt they would add it, id like the ability to maybe lock in a certain amount of drops a day that gives you a progressively higher chance to obtain over the course of the farm - even if its just adding half of the original drop rate each time you do a mission where you *dont* get the item, therefore, it cant be abused to get mass amounts of the character mods to break the grindy aspect
in short, they just REALLY need to add some form of pity system for things - as "20%" seems like a suggestion, not the actual drop rate - just trying to get ONE part for the thundercage, i did 67 runs and only eventually got it after 3 ish hours of farming - for reference, that would be a 0.000973% chance of it not giving me it for 67 runs in a row. this is not even the first time that a "20%" drop chance item took over 30+ runs too, and considering ive only been playing a little over a month, its already becoming an issue.
The one thing that really irks me though is the limit to how many things can be crafting at once - i believe the base is 5, and it cant be upgraded - so you can only really be crafting 5 things at once, which sucks as it just decentivises me to even keep farming, if im just gonna be forced to wait hours before i can even craft things
Right? It just feels a bit misleading. I haven't crunched the numbers, but having played RPGs since the 90s, my spider sense is tingling about this. They did mention in recent patch notes they are looking in to such a system of which you speak! I hope it helps the gamefeel!
I did that Kuiper mine mission almost 20 times to get the drop once, it sucked!
That is a lot of runs, and I feel your pain on that one. I'm trying not to reach for my wallet to solve this RNG problem, for real!
It's nexon so it's exactly how I expected .I really enjoy the game then gring is just too much for me as a casual player these days.
I have 4 normal characters now and I cannot stomach the grind for any more.
4 characters is impressive to me. I want to get there. I also find myself to be casual. I imagine nexon leaning back, feet on table, softly saying "Got 'em" ...and they are right. Those that want a grindy looter shooter have found it here.
It’s a free game and “better” than most. Haven’t sunk a penny in it. Got a Plat out of it. Destiny was a grind fest, Diablo is a grind fest .. rinse and repeat. Diablo is worse though, you have to remake your toon ever season and I spent $100 for that game and haven’t touched it for months because of the rebuild aspect, that gets old fast

Youre wrong about the drop rates. Its not 20%, nor 3%.
Its 50%. You either get it or you dont
That's an interesting outlook on drop rates in video games! I'd like to take a peek at the code and see if your theory checks out.

1:11 BRRROOOOO! I just got my Freyna cells after 10+ runs, switching to Lepic instead of Bunny, and doing the operation in private instead of public. Reddit has a thread on this issue, seems to be common.
I would be happy with that lol I had to 70 runs to get one of kyles parts.

It does have potential but when Warframe offers almost the same exact system and one that has been refined over years, its hard to stay on it. Warframe has got it down with guaranteed drops for relics from missions and all you need to do then is hope RNG is good but TFD has RNG for its RNG. It's very early in the game's life so I'm hopeful for its future. The only thing that really sucks right now is farming gold to upgrade mods, that's whats slowed the game down for me
You may be right about Warframe being the way to go... I'm accustomed to games like Diablo and Borderlands, where you can restart a fresh new character at the beginning whenever you'd like -- a trope I found synonymous with RPGs but one that the online FPS RPGs seem to be diverging from. But I finally took the leap and had a fun first hour completing a questline this morning, with my progress from when I started back around 2017. I'll definitely be putting more time into warframe in the coming weeks! 🙂
@@andyglovergames with the amount of content coming to warframe soon with the warframe 1999 update, it’ll be worth it!
Just rush through the campaign. The drops are a lot better in hard mode. Also just think of a 20% drop of there being an 80% chance youre not going to get it.
Oh I bet the drops are way better at the higher difficulty! I need to buckle down and get there!
