THIS is why we need to be allowed to video our dancers. So that years later there is a history of Irish dance. Many will find this fascinating to watch and have a better understanding of ID. Much more than hearing-men used to dance a two hand together. That conversation would go nowhere and convey nothing. A VIDEO speaks a thousand words-and people listen.
I was a pupil of Rory O'Connor. I remember after one All Ireland in the Mansion House, all the dance teachers from the North, South, East and West strutted out on the stage and gave a display of their dancing. This was a big tradition and we got to see all teachers. It probably doesn't happen now. But I always remember being blown away by Kevin Massey. He was amazing.🍀🍀🍀😽😽
What year was that? I recall Rory's school when I competed in 70s n 80s. My mum wanted me to go to Rory but for some bizarre reason I didn't. He turned out fabulous dancers.
@@denig2000able Hi I'm not exactly sure but it was as you said in the 70s and very early 80s. I won the All Ireland in May 1981 so that wasn't today or yesterday. What dancing school did you go to ? I didn't catch your full name. 😺😺
I don't remember all the teachers on stage but I do recall there was a competition between clubs to see which club won the most medals at the Mansion House. Yes I agree Kevin Massey the best dancer of his time. I recall him dancing a reel in his hard shoes for the first time at Harry's shed behind his house. Even as a young child I knew I was watching something very special. Wonderful memories. Oh and Harry McCaffrey was my uncle, a lovely man and teacher.
@@angelamurphy3331Hi again ...I went to Ivory in Crumlin for several years then changed to Mona Bolton in Greenhills. I remember the Mansion House for the big comps. I think I first did the Leinsters or so in 1980 then every year after that til about 87. I recall Rory O'Connors school and Brenda Bastable being the big winners alot. Very good dancers. Great times. I still have my few big medals from the Dublin, Leinster and All Irelands.
Oh wow. Kevin Massey was the best Irish dancer of his time. I was in the group that danced in the 50;s and won the all Ireland. I have a photograph of the group taken a day or so after the event, unfortunately Kevin is the only one missing from the photo, but my uncle Harry is in it. (would you know who the boy was that would turn up from time to time at Harry's class with Kevin. His name was Brian (a good dancer too)and as children we all thought it was Kevins brother?
Two brilliant dancers in their day - Sean Fegan and Kevin Massey. Unfortunately both have since gone to their eternal reward as has their teacher Harry McCaffrey. Ar dheis De go raibh a nainmneacha dilis. Eoghan O Cuinn, SDCRG.
You didn,t know any better in them days.. you just did what you were told,an lads dancing together in those times was seen as so much better.. in a different league to us,boring dancers..just learning the steps. those guys were really pretty cool.not a step out!either of em!that took some doing ..especially back then

Great dancing. Enjoyed it.
Kevin Massey is my grandad's brother, my great uncle. RIP.

What marvellous exponents of Irish Dance these lads were, from the the Harry Mc Caffrey stable. RIP

More beautiful than river dance!!!!
So talented. Bang on timing!
Que belleza!😻👏👏👏👏
This is what irish dancing should be! They dance as if tgey are floating..
nice video
Fun fact: Kevin Massey helped Michael Flatley train for the Worlds
Thats brill!!!
When this was filmed the word gay meant happy
@lavendderrable Totally right.
Is that Margaret Thatcher on the fiddle?? ;-)
How unusual to see men dancing a two hand!
I am curious as to why 2 lads are dancing hand in hand? Where is the lass?
Because this is a two-hand, where it is just as common for two lasses to hold hands.
Is this the Kevin Massey from Monkstown who worked in Finlaters many many years ago
Yes

Gay dancing in Catholic Ireland in the 50s60s? Don’t be silly, that idea is 90 millennial rubbish.
That was superb irish dancing ☘️
what's with the gay comments. two men dancing together isn't gay ffs!
Is cuma an bhfuil siad aerach nó nach bhfuil is rinceóirí iontacha iad.
two gays: flatley and his partner
Gay Irish dancing
Homophobic little shit aren’t you?
