- Model Jennifer Barlow's leg was amputated after contracting a flesh-eating bacteria infection while vacationing in the Bahamas. So far this year, twelve Americans died after contracting flesh-eating bacteria. Beachgoers are now being warned not to go in the water if they have even a small cut and experts say raw oysters are another way of contracting the bacteria. Inside Edition's Les Trent has more.

Went through same bacteria infection 18 months ago. Lost my left leg and uses prosthetics to day. I’m so happy that I survied.
Going through something like that is terrifying and horrific to just think about. The fact that she lived through it and is still pushing through and getting back to normal life shows how strong she is. Keep pushing girl!

It's soo sad seeing someone in that sort of condition in the hospital. Imagine if you were an older father and you saw your daughter in that condition. But life is precious and she has a lot in her life. Wish her and family the best

Why did he give humans free will and then punish them when humans make certain choices and then punish them for using their free will? I hope that she meets someone who is going to love, cherish and be faithful to her. She deserves to be loved.
About a month or 2 ago I was in hospital for 3 weeks with a flesh eating bacteria, was told i may wake up with an amputated leg and would most likely be disabled after surgery but luckily none of that happened, isn't nice at all catching this.
If they told me that. I wouldn't blink an eye for the rest of the night. Not gonna get me while I'm snoozing.
I'm ok living a life where I never touch the ocean.

My brother had that in his arm. H didn’t actually lose his arm, he just lost a lot of the muscles and connective tissues, so his arm wasn’t particularly useful any more.

Well she went to a pig beach, where you swim with pigs and stuff and they do poop in the ocean. I have no idea why the failed to mention that in the interview
I thought this happens only in rivers and lakes not the beach and pools . I stopped going to the lakes years ago because of the eating flesh bacteria .

I thought the flesh eating bacteria was only in still waters, like lakes and ponds. Didn’t know you could get it at the beach now! Can’t have anything anymore
Here in the bay area we have algae blooms now in our ocean 🌊 side

@@daixer3156 until the pain was unbearable lol pretty stupid really, but from when I first felt a bit of pain until the hospital was about a week. At first I thought it was maybe a bad cyst but apparently it was all black and rotten flesh underneath all the red soreness.
My dad passed away this past November from this. Just horrible. I'm glad she is okay.

I have been avoiding open bodies of waters and pools for years….
Same. After I first heard of flesh eating bacteria I don’t go in
I would not wish this on anyone, what a painful agonizing way to lose a limb.
the beach is so nasty, my friends make fun of me for never getting in the water but it’s disgusting and people have died in the same water they want me to play in. I also specifically live south of tampa, it’s not safe.
Going to the beach and eating seafood will soon be a Hazard
The decision to amputate her leg must be tough, glad she's doing alright now and can enjoy her life again.
All this from stepping in the ocean with a small scrap.. no way I step in that dirty ocean or lake water with water temp levels rising. Such a high risk for such a common place activity. No thank you.

This happened to my grandfather , it was his birthday two days ago and he has been in the hospital for over a month . Originally the doctor thought it was cellulite , but now it is a flesh eating bacteria . If he went to the hospital just 6 hours later than he did , he could of died . I can’t visit him as I am fighting a cold . ( not Covid , I tested myself ) . I can’t wait for this cold to be done so I can visit him .
His brain might've gotten eaten because flesh eating bacteria can also eat your brain and without the brain how would your heart pump so that could be the reason

Well one positive is there have been major advancements in prosthetics. She could get a state of the art leg and be fully mobile.

They need to be more accepting of models who have disabilities because it also shows the strength it takes to endure what would be a major life change to many of us, this should be something that adds to a person's overall appeal, not subtract. My condolences to this woman.

I live off the gulf coast. Visitors always want to go to the beach. I always ask if they have fresh cuts because we have flesh eating bacteria. Usually they pass on beach
Nothing can take her lovely spirit and smile away! Stay strong sweetheart! I always thought the ocean helped heal scratches and pimples etc. Several times I have nicked my foot or ankle on sea shells or rocks and got scratches while in the ocean and didn't even know it until I got out. This is terrifying!
The ocean wouldn’t have these nasty little microbes if people were not dumping raw sewage into them!

Why on her GoFundMe page does it say that she contracted the flesh eating bacteria in The Bahamas? However, that was not mentioned in the video. I have never heard of anything like that happening in that country before. I am glad she's doing well and still has a positive attitude towards life. Continue to strive young lady.
We were terrified of this disease in the 90’s. I knew someone who had it and first they took his leg then his second leg..arms …he was a torso. The drs we’re doing everything but they ended up just giving him tons of morphine until he died…I can’t imagine the terror of watching yourself being eaten away…

It’s crazy because back in the 70’s when I lived in Hawaii, we used to go to the beach after getting hurt because the ocean would clean it out and heal it faster. Or so it seemed. 😬
I get scratches often. I carry small isopropyl alcohol packages and use them to clean a scratch immediately. I certainly don't go into water with an open wound.
She is a good sport, managing to keep a positive attitude even after losing her leg to the bacteria. Truly lovely individual!
