    Now you've done it....you've forced me to part with my money to get this kit. Not a bad thing as my grandpa was a Coxswain on those in the Pacific at the age of 15. He landed Marines at Tarawa, Saipan and Okinawa so I may have to build one in his honor. John R. Darre..9/27/27-11/02/02

    Great review Shane! I appreciate the helpful contrasts that you offered on the good and the bad of the kit. I have not had this kit on the radar previously, but now that may be changing! One of these might be a good break from my usual Sherman builds.

    Thanks for reviewing this kit Shane, it's one I've contemplated buying myself. Re diorama ideas, how about a landing craft beached on D-Day? Maybe a little morbid for some tastes but you could pose some bodies and the carnage of battle around it.

      I'm not really screamish about modelling human cost of war, I find when right it makes very moving and poignant stories, though I find that many modelers over do the gore and make their work like the set of Saw. If I had better sculpting skills I would model the boat based on that famous photo off Omaha of a Higgins sinking and the troops and crew bailing out

    Great review, your vids are quite relaxing and I often play them during hobby time. I ordered this kit directly from Italeri but its equipment sprues didn't have mortars and bazookas like in your video. Anyway thanks for the review!

    Nice review, mate.
    A question; what do you think about those 3D CAD (?) pictures that usally preview’d on the side and/or the back of the box?
    All though I like some sort of picture of what I am about to build but I don’t like a 3D rendering. I don’t know... It just looks fake🙄
    I rather take a
    1) a fully built and painted product
    2) an artwork
    any day of the week.
    Can’t wait until you build this kit; it looks awesome.
    Cheers, mate!

      @longlance67  6 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      my biggest issues with CAD drawings on the box art is that it does not necessarily repersent what you actually get in plastic, for example Dragon's CAD renders show great detail in some of their sets (check out their Rommel set) then actual detail is terrible

      Got one in my stash too but without figures. I'm just about to start on my first water diorama with a 1.72 old Airfix kit as a bit of a practise piece but also for my second build series on how i do diorama's. Not meaning to plug my own thing.
      Will be watching you with a kind interest as to how you get on for when i crack on with mine.

    If you do the kit with a load of infantry, adjust their heights by cutting some plastic from feet. No one will be able to see the feet and soldiers are not all the same height! I believe the landing craft is available without the soldiers for anyone interested in building one with a cargo load or small vehicle.

    Awesome kit there, thank you for showing us :) I had the pleasure to stand in one of those boats in Normandy some years ago, they are bigger than i thought. Those Italeri figures are not the greatest, i have their S-boat crew set, they are slightly better though. At least on the first glance. As you pointed out, it would require some really big effort to bring the figures up to the desired level. When i heard "Dragon Wagon" i was sold on that idea immediately :) Go for it hehe!

    • @longlance67
      @longlance67  6 ปีที่แล้ว

      not jealous at all Michi, I would love to calm around in one or better still get a ride in a seagoing one to see what it have been like running for a beach in one of these things! It is strange that crew sets for their torpedo boat range are not too bad out of the box, though with this set I think they basically
      wanted to do it for cheap
      hehehe I think it might well be the Dragon Wagon project that wins out lol

Also trying to connect with some other quality TH-camrs to get in on buddy builds or crossover projects. When you get a minute come check my channel out and maybe we can do a collaboration or something like that in the future.

      yes, I buy all my kits with the intent of building them

  • @SmallSoldier
    @SmallSoldier 6 ปีที่แล้ว +1

    Because the figures are so bad I'd go with the Dragon Wagon. Less figures so you can put a good effort into the boat and not have the figures let it down. Make some sprue solution with all that plastic waste from the figure trees. :)

    • @longlance67
      @longlance67  6 ปีที่แล้ว

      I had an awesome fleeting idea of modelling the boat sinking off Omaha beach and modify my own crew and troops in the process of abandoning the boat and jumping into the sea, would make a very dramatic scene but it would take me years to do, so the dragon wagon it is

  • @jerryvolpini7987
    @jerryvolpini7987 6 ปีที่แล้ว +1

    Back in the day, Italeri rivaled Tamiya for moulding and detail. Not today, nice kits but just not up to modern standards, crappy figures. Good review though, Shane 👍

      they are such an hit and miss company

  • @SmallSoldier
    @SmallSoldier 6 ปีที่แล้ว +2

    IMO Italeri are so far behind in what they're doing (for the most part)(not all) that it's really not worth spending the money for what they produce. Yeah those figures are crap totally useless... again IMO. I think you'd be better off getting other plastic figures and doing conversions than using those as why do it at all if the figures let it down. I mean the model really is representing figures for the most part. When you look at most other companies and what they're doing figure wise, these just don't come close. These would have been marginally passable even in the 80's. Good review none the less and honest which is the way a review should be.

    • @longlance67

      if you shop around you might find it cheaper, though least in my view for a kit of this size 50quid is reasonable considering how much a TAKOM King Tiger or Panther is going for
