Jerzy Janowicz suffers a game penalty vs Shapovalov, three code violations in a blink

  • Three code violations in 5 minutes for Jerzy Janowicz and if the first 2 were justified the third was definetely not (a misshit/shank of the return that went into the stands). Denis Shapovalov himself entered the hall of infamy after he smashed a ball into the umpire's face earlier this year. Shapovalov, the reigning Junior Wimbledon champion, was instantly disqualified and Canada lost the fifth and decisive rubber in the Davis Cup tie against Great Britain. Shapovalov faced a 12,000 US Dollars fine, althought it could be increased by the ITF (International Tennis Federation). By entering the final of the 2017 Guadalajara challenger, Shapovalov extended his winning streak to 17. He won the Drummondville challenger last week by beating some top challenger players and rising stars (Felix Auger Aliassime). This week he beat Vasek Pospisil and saved a match point against Jerzy Janowicz. Both Shapovalov and Janowicz are hitting some great form and the quality of their semi-final match was very high. They're very likely to get back into the top 100 by the end of the year. Janowicz won the Bergamo title and pushed Marin Cilic to five sets at the 2017 Australian Open.

    • @paulepstein9739
      @paulepstein9739 4 ปีที่แล้ว +13

      4:53 is completely wrong -- you must not have heard the umpire's reason. He said "For me it was intentional". If the reason was "verbal abuse", that would have made no sense. The real reason is that the umpire thought that, for a second time, Janowicz had deliberately hit the ball into the crowd.

  • @Zeda1002

    Initially Jerzy was right IMO, ref should have repeat the point after someone from crowd yelled out and after he saw Jerzy stopped playing because he thought linesman called out. He cannot be certain who yelled out. Other Jerzy's reactions were inappropriate, but they followed the injustice being done to him. And it's not a mistake that should be tolerated like a wrong call, ref had enough time to think a bit and then call repeating a point.

Unsportsmanlike conduct in basketball is a major penalty and it is a technical foul and a warning, it is also a major penalty in football which draw a 15 yard penalty and sometimes the player will be disqualified for unsportsmanlike conduct. In tennis, unsportsmanlike conduct will results in fines and one or two game suspension.

Fabio Fognini was fined 90+k last year and given a suspended grand slam ban for verbally abusing an umpire. • @madabbafan
      @madabbafan ปีที่แล้ว +1

      Usually given for serious breaces of the rules of the game or unsportsman like conduct. The first one given was a nonsence. Someone in the crowd shouted 'out' and he thought it was the linesman. Whilst under the rules of the game state the point is NOT replayed here the player had the right to ask about it. The second for hitting the ball away in anger as it didn't hit anyone this comes down to the umpire, some will ignore it others will give the code violation. The third one probably would have got a code violation from most umpires as it was the second time he did it. In my mind he should have only recieved one which is the warning.

      In that case don't look and keep playing, you have a better chance of winning the point than to stop playing completely and expect to get the point. And yes I have played competitively and have had it go either way in those situations. I'm just saying on the professional tour they should be expected to be hard on the rules rather than to be considerate to the players that decide to stop play

      There have been cases where a player taps their racquet on the ground and the umpire calls it a hindrance, because they distract the opponent and make it so they can't get a good shot.
      Don't they have a rule now about yelling too loudly during a point for that reason?
      And that isn't even calling a ball out.
      Were there also not some cases where a player calls a ball out before it bounces twice and the umpire deems that to be a hindrance because the opponent did not play the ball effectively thinking the ball was out?
      There are lots of times where the ruling is the opposite of this one, so what is needed to be fair is for there to be some consistency.
      You can't have one umpire say it is fair, and another to say it is not.

    いーから講義なんかしないで試合やってろよ 一つ目のは確かに審判の判断はおかしかったけど次で切り替えろよボールが入ってないか入ってるかの際どいボールはとりあえず打っとけよ。
