    You are awesome! You teach pretty much all the tests that I've ever searched for. You should also make videos where you combine the tests to differentially diagnose the diseases that are most common or severe (requiring rapid treatment).

    is it possible to have De Quervain's radial Tenosynovitis without having pain in Finkelstein Test ? I've been diagnosed with this but I conducted the test myself and didn't have extra pain. I've been resting for 2 months now without workout or Handball and it's starting to get better however I've been required to take anti-imflamatory treatment for a week at some point because I was scared it would heal fast enough.
    The pain I have is when I apply force with my thumb extended, like resting on my hand flat on the ground or gripping a handball ball was extremelly painful (and caused the injury in the first place.)

    I can push my wrist and thumb down as in the video without pain. But if I lift upward it causes severe pain on the underside of the wrist towards the thumb. What does that mean?

      @@FOURTEEFIVE After getting an MRI the orthopedic Dr. said I have a partial TFCC tear, mild carpel tunnel and symptoms of De Quervain's Tenosynovitis. There wasn't enough damage to need surgery. If I sleep with my hand bent weird I'll have wrist pain the next day. Sleeping with a hand brace on made a huge difference. Still have some minor pain from the TFCC tear every once in a while.

    I got this I'm 21 I cook, and got it so bad. I did nothing for months til I found out what it was, I could not do shit with my dominant hand. Had to drive, eat, buckle up, dress, with my left hand because it hurt so intensely to grab things, I went like that for months. And it clicked painfully when my thumb rotated. I got a splint from urgent care. Then a real bone doctor gave me a steroid shot and it's better already. It hasn't come back but I was researching whether it can or not. Thanks for this! The pain was exclusive to the wrist and base of my thumb on the thumb side on my main hand. I was doing eggs a lot at my job, a ton of mixing scrambled eggs lol (I miss the eggs, they where better than doing everything with no staff b/c corona)
    But yeah I told my work I can't do eggs for a while, I needed help carrying things that weighed nothing because it was the simple movement of grabbing something that gave me sharp intense pain. It came out of nowhere and left like the wind after my shot thankfulky

    Question please. Aside from the pain I feel when I move my thumb or wrist in certain ways, when I stretch my thumb out, I feel something popping near the base. Also when I twist my wrist, I feel something popping on the top side of my wrist. Is this common with this condition? I have had x-rays done and they are negative for any fractures or breaks. Thanks

    Great video! I was diagnosed with De Quervain's a week ago and given a splint to wear all day (except when eating and bathing) and told to use ice 4 to 6 times daily and also take Aleve tablets a day (Naproxen 220mg: - 2 pills in the morning and 2 at night - total of 880mg per day) until I see the orthopedist again (2 weeks from my original appointment).
    MY question - Are NSAID's (Naproxen in my case) really required for treatment IF I do not have pain at all during the day? I am concerned about POTENTIAL Aleve side effects such as risk of bleeding etc. E.g. in my case, I can lift objects with the 'bad' hand and turn a door knob without that hand pain. Moving my thumb in all directions also does not hurt. Only when I 'twist' / extend my hand to the outside, as part of the test, I start to feel the discomfort.... I would rather avoid the Naproxen if possible, unless it will help heal my tendon / sheath / condition for long run EVEN if I am not experiencing any discomfort / pain during the day.

    My thumb pain only hurts to put pressure on it like doing a pushup or bench pressing/over head pressing. It does not hurt to do anything else (texting, rotating the thumb, etc. do not hurt) and I don't feel discomfort in my wrist and did not feel any pain during these tests. Could this be De Quervain's Tenosynovitis or something else?

    is this condition likely to present in an athlete who uses a hook grip while weight training??

    • @Physiotutors
      @Physiotutors  7 ปีที่แล้ว +5

      It's more related to repetitive activities that include thumb abduction and extension. With the hook grip you're doing the opposite.
      However, literature is controversial regarding the causative factors and any repetitive activities involving grasping, pulling, pinching or pushing may cause it. So yeah, general lifting might be a risk factor, besides using a computer mouse intensively, piano-playing, knitting,. golf, bowling etc.
      Additionally, pregnancy seems to be a risk factor as well as fluid changes and hormal changes.

      @@asxnkmb I would not recommend wrist exercises. your wrist muscles in your forearm are already strong likely from your job. I'd recommend soft tissue release techniques to decrease the tension. a good 30 minute massage on your forearm should help a lot. but it's tough to find Massage Therapists that are knowledgeable enough to spend 30 minutes on the forearm. there are over 20 different muscles that would likely need work. Good luck, hope you don't have to do surgery, but in some cases it is helpful
