I have a 5yr old Red Pine and it is growing very fast. The roots are profusely growing and filled the pot in 6 months. It does grow much faster than all my Black Pines. Great info as always.

Wow that’s pretty cool! Do you keep it on the drier side and also little fertiliser? Or do you feed and water a lot?
@@TerryErasmusbonsai Water once a day and fertilizer once a month. On very hot days water twice.
@@bulebonsaibatam1758 ok, sounds fine but of course i am not familiar with your conditions. However Akamatsu should be grown slowly or they become too bushy, in nature they live in rather arid conditions.
@@TerryErasmusbonsai here’s in Indonesua its generally hot all the time. The tree is 5yrs old and only 30cm tall. But its developing well as far as structure and internode length. Trunk size is 2-3cm as well.
That was incredible I have a red pine that I am growing from a seed and I have no idea what I’m doing but I wonder if my seedling will ever look like that!
With patience it will Vane. Patience is as much a required bonsai skill as all the other skills. Enjoy the process.
I have a Dragoneye Japanese red pine how do I get it to backbud? It is a new plant and very leggy.
Never heard of that species but on a standard red pine they bud very easily. If it’s on old wood then you will need to graft but on wood which is up to around 3 years or so it’s best to fertilize a lot and it will bud automatically. However if extra stimulation is needed you can cut back into last years needles. However the tree MUST be healthy before you will get back budding.
