      with the big demand that came in for opal stones, id imagine they're doing more innovative methods of finding them, leading to more variation in what they find probably based on the geography of the place and how the rock of the land formed etc.

      They mine in different areas and the different groups don’t mine the same ground... so you will only find certain opal in certain areas

    It was such a great experience mining in Koroit and we got so many beautiful stones.
    They were put for sale through our website and now I’m back on Outback Opal Hunters, there will be more celebrities stones coming up

    Guy pulls out a piece of dirt the size of a grapefruit taps the side and all of a sudden its shrunk to the size of a mango pip and has a totally different shape with smooth sides and is wet ! Magic hammer that.

    It's best to grind and shape opal using a 220 grit diamond wheel. I use sintered wheels because they'll save thousands of dollars over the years.

    Whats the best way to polish a boulder / Koroit nut? anyone? don't think the cerium oxide works, certainly not on standard queensland rough, powders the surface rather than polishes... inn my experience anyway....

      they don't really know what they have. yes they could get way more if they had cut the gem out of the nut but not knowing what's inside would take forever. could just be a rock like most times.
