Day 8 - Imerovigli & Fira, Santorini 🇬🇷 2nd of November 2023 (Filmed mainly on my phone as I had ran out of SD card space!) Our last full day of our Greek getaway… I had a phone call from the accommodation host in Fira (our final move) to say it will be ready from 11.30am (check in was 3pm) and would we like a lift?! We had pretty much explored Imerovigli by then and a lift was a much better option than catching a bus or taxi so we agreed. I would 100% recommend the Kallisto hotel in Imerovigli- the staff were super friendly and helpful, views amazing and not far to carry cases from a car park or bus station… on Santorini that’s an amazing perk lol Valentini our host in the Opera Mansion accommodation in Fira, picked us up nearby and was so lovely and gave us lots of information about the mansion (it’s a 1 bedroom cave villa) and its history…. In 1830 it was owned by a local doctor who also loved to act. As the old port was below the mansion, he utilised the space to create an opera house and charged people coming to the island to watch his nightly performances. The money was then used to purchase medicine for the islands people. They have a book which have extracts from the times it was used as an opera house from people visiting… truly fascinating! I wish I could have seen what it looked like. There was a big gap which Valentini didn’t elaborate on but went on to tell us that it was bought by its current owners in 2017 who transformed into what it is today. It is a wow accomodation, the most expensive place we’ve stayed in all trip by quite a bit but I managed to get a good discount on booking .com (as I’m level 3 awarded) and it was a 1/3 of what 1 night would cost in July and we felt it was definitely worth it for £240 with breakfast. It has an outside pool and an outside hot tub and an indoor heated pool with jacuzzi which we had a lot of fun in. It has a wine cellar full of wines to purchase and couples have the option to hire a private chef to make them a candlelit meal down there. It was really busy today with many brits - there were a few cruise ships in port so maybe one from the UK?! It wasn’t as busy as the summer months but a huge difference from a few days ago when we were last in Fira. Fira is the capital so besides the nightclubs and bars, nearly all the shops and restaurants are open all throughout the year which obviously draw people to go there. Plus, the caldera views are stunning!! The rest of the day was spent wandering about and souvenir shopping. Then later headed to the 3 bells of Fira for sunset and our last meal at Pelican Kipos a restaurant we went to a few times last summer which we loved. Back at the accomodation, it was pool time until we went to bed. Breakfast was made for us on the property and we were called at 9am to say it was ready up on our top terrace… it was huge! We ate the lot and were so stuffed but absolutely did not regret it! I went into the hotub for a bit before we started to get ready for our taxi at 12pm to take us to the airport to go home. We flew into Gatwick then caught a National Express bus to Swansea where my husband met us to take us home. I’d definitely recommend going to the islands (well Crete and Santorini anyway) this time of year as accommodation prices are hugely lowered, the weather although can be unpredictable is around the mid 20’s and places are quiet! We both loved it 🇬🇷 UPDATE: I loved this trip so much i went back this year!! I've not long come back from Santorini, Naxos, Paros & Mykonos and I've vlogged it all!
I'd definitely travel there in November, thank you for sharing with us! I was put off Santorini because of the crowds in the summer, but this looks perfect. Beautiful hotel, but, I've loved all the accommodation you've stayed in; I wouldn't spend £750 a night to stay there that's for sure, but glad you managed to book a night where you really wanted to stay for much less! I think I've said this before, but, I'd never book with Tui. My holiday to Puerto de Mogan in June is costing me £500 less with EasyJet for the same month and exactly the same things (transfers and luggage included); the only thing missing was a rep and I'm so not bothered by having a rep!! Looking forward to seeing where you go next!!
