Seb, just got back from Athens, Santorini, Mykonos, a day trip to Tinos, back to Athens all with a rental car. Loved Ferry Hopper, best app out there. Watched almost all your videos before our trip which made our vacation one to remember.

Mywife and i stayed 4 days in Santorini, i wish i would have stayed longer. I actually like Fira more than Oia. I found Fira to be more convenient in order to navigate and enjoy the Island. Traveling via the bus was easy. We loved our stay. I watched all your videos,. You may friend are ao helpful which is priceless.

You mentioned Pyrgos and Megalochori. I'm glad I found your channel with enough time to get convinced to go there!!! I consider them an integral part of the Santorini experience, if you're staying longer than three days and you don't go to Pyrgos and Megalochori, shame on you! (well, not really shame, everyone enjoys their holidays the way they want, but seriously, go to Pyrgos and Megalochori if you're in Santorini for more than three days, it's definitively worth it)

Take the boat over to Thirassia for a diffferent perspective. Pyrgos is a wonderful village and definitely take the walk from the Monastery atop the mountain down, down, down to Perissa and jump in for a swim.
Definitely walk from Thira around the crater rim to Oia if you can. 3 hours should do. There are wonderful views, different perspectives and a roadside caravan for refreshments halfway along.
The ferry services from Santorini are superb by and large. Ferryhopper's useful for plotting the news
..then go to Amorgos..and then you'll never want to go back to Santorini 👌👌🙏

I'm glad I found your channel before my trip to the Greek Islands. Thanks Seb for all your practical and useful tips. I was able to workout an itinerary that enabled me and my wife to travel to a few of the beautiful islands namely Santorini, Amorgos, Naxos, Paros, Zakynthos and then to Athens, before my flight back home. I just can't get over how beautiful Zakynthos was and how much it had to offer. It was also more affordable compared to the more popular Greek islands. Anyway, I'm looking forward to going back again soon, and thanks again Sebastian!

I watched lots of Sebastian's videos before we spent a week on Santorini in 2022 and we had a fantastic time and spent at most two hours on Oia and Fira... Loved the island. We stayed in Perissa and hired a car for 4 days 👌
We also found the heat on Santorini quite acceptable apart from on the volcano... That was stupidly hot and I got pretty badly sunburnt on one shoulder and I've never sweated so much...
But day to day, Malta is much hotter. It was generally above 40c when we visited and Santorini was mid 30's

One other thing I wish I knew was that buses are not the best options to do the transfers, to and from the hotel and between the hotels if you are to stay at multiple hotels, and that private transfers are expensive but no other option but to pay for it. I would have just planned for it if I knew beforehand.

Hi Sebastian. Thanks a lot for your very interesting and useful videos. I went for 2 weeks in Athens, Milos and Santorini (mid-June 2024).
I would like to know something regarding the water. In Milos, where I stay longer (but it is also true for Santorini), the water is not drinkable because coming from a desalting sea water plant. This technology started around the world in about 1950. What about water for the people living in the islands centuries ago?
I'm very anxious to know if there is fresh water sources in these areas.

I just got back from Santorini & Mykonos. I will say Santorini had some of the rudest people I’ve ever dealt with in my life. I had to hide my American accent & fake a foreign accent to be able to get treated with the slightest bit of common courtesy.
For example the “information” people at the bus stop whose job it is to help couldn’t be bothered to help us out. Wouldn’t even look me in the eye just point at the signs. I came back later that day and switched up my accent to the same person and then they were way more helpful. Or when a man in Mykonos threw my friend’s purse in the sand because she set it down on an unused sunbed for a few seconds to keep her balance while she fixed her shoe. The man then proceeded to mock us for using a tripod to take photos at the beach with an older Greek couple sitting on some beds, obviously staring and pointing and laughing at us. Sad world we live in. I can go on forever about the horrible experiences I personally encountered with the Greeks.
Only 2 spots where we were treated with genuine kindness in Santorini was Santo Wines by Ilias and the older man at Lucky’s Souvlaki’s. They made my trip have at least some sort of light.
Thank you for all your tips because without seeing your videos I would have been completely clueless going there. I appreciate all that you do! I don’t think I’ll ever go back, however. I’ve had happier birthdays.

We were on Santorini about ten days ago courtesy of a cruise ship, three in that day so one maybe two too many, been quite a few times once for two weeks when we hired a scooter for the duration but the experience is getting a little thin now and with the queues 2.5 hours long to get back down to the dock by cable car then another 1.5 hours waiting to board a tender back to the ship it's questionable if we'd leave the ship if we should ever visit again? Oh and people who use the donkeys (mules) shame on you.

Correction: wish you HAD known. What you didn't realize is that Santorini is now a dumping ground for cruise ship tourists who speak no Greek, know nothing of Greek or Byzantine culture, and have no interest in learning such things. The advent of cruise ships was the final step in turning Santorini into an amusement park. Those of us who knew Santorini in the '60s can never return.

  • @artnwordz2763
    @artnwordz2763 ปีที่แล้ว

We just came back from Santorini….
Stay away from Oia. It’s a tourist trap. 50 percent of the people are rude. The food is blatantly either awful or unextrodinary. With the exception of Amoudi Fish Tavern. But you either have to pay a ton to get down there since parking is almost impossible. Or you walk down 1100 some odd slippery rocky stairs amidst donkey crap All the way down. Not super super fun.
So many of the stores and food places are operated by folks who come from Athens since they are paid twice as much to spend the “ summer months “ on that island. This means they are there to fleece you. And they don’t care much about tourists.
I even encountered some dude who tried to get me to tip him at a gas station. A gas station. Realllllly ????
You can’t find any food quickly in Oia. It’s one restaurant after another. And you’re paying for the views. Not the food.
Good luck w crowds once the cruise ships arrive. Your a sardine in a shooting can … not fun.
Again Oia .. you get a view. But it’s not something you need for more then a day and a half.
The ferry .. to another island.
It’s crowded. Feels like going to a third world . People pushing and shoving to get on the ferry. And off .. Yelling staff everywhere. And if you are unlucky enough to take a late night ferry. People sleeping on blow up mattresses sleeping bags. On towels everywhere. Under stairs.
In front of bathroom doors. In hallways. It’s a friggin zoo and really an ugly scene. Chaotic and again like a third world ferry experience. Not cool.
The “ beaches “ of Santorini .. do not pay for a lounge at any place in Kamari or perisa beach. Eat at a place and get your lounge for free. Other wise it’s a huge rip off. Kamari has no sand. And unless you are near the rock cliff. You have to navigate rocks to try and even get in the water. It kinda of sucks.
The archeological site. Do not buy your tickets online. You’re going to get 9 different stories on opening and closing hours and all THIER websites are happy to take your money and when you show up. The place is closed. Yet they state “open “ online.
Basically here’s the scoop. Want to see the views of Santorini ? And the unique structures ? Go for a day and half. But stay on another island with beautiful beaches and friendlier people. Cuz you won’t find it 100 percent on Santorini.
You have to realllllllly do your homework for this island or you will be ripped off.
In fact Eden if you ask a “ local “ where to eat they will send you as it happens to us to some awful awful food place if only to support that restaurant as if they are all in on the “ joke “.
Chances are you will be treated rudely by many and pay wayyyyyy to much for what you get.
You will witness people yelling at each other daily. If unlucky enough like us you get to see dogs attacking each other in a public travelled alley area and then the owners fighting over it. Awesome. Regular island life.
Get there. See it for a day and half. And get gone. That’s all you need of Santorini especially Oia.
    Blech.

I wish you had mentioned. That in Santorini all Scuba Diving Places are closed on April. You never mentioned it. We got our plane tickets a month ago and looking to book scuba diving and the answers is not. Let other people know that for people is important.
