  • Welcome to The Lift Journal. A session by session record of my progression in foiling from a beginners perspective. Sharing the highs and lows of my experience first hand.
Sometimes in my least favorite conditions I make the most progress. I don't love foiling bigger then waist high just yet especially in unpredictable wind swell. But in order for me to get better I suppose I have to get out of my comfort zone. After pretty consistently linking at least one wave per session I really wanted to go for two. I knew that it mostly had to do with how I approached wave selection and calmness. Using the 210 Hyper 2 I know that the glide is more than I am used to and as long as I keep the mast high I will be able to maintain my speed well. With that in mind and planning my wave selection I linked multiple waves in this entry. It really started to open up the possibilities and how I look at the ocean. I also decided since it was a little bigger that I should use less angle so dropped it down to a .5 shim on my tail. I want to also thank Josh ‪@thefoilshop6371‬ for the hat and double coil Kaohi leash. As I said in the entry I hate leashes but hate this one the least.

Your Pump Body Position keeps improving. Keeping you back straight and driving the energy directly down the mast requires Core/Balance/Rhythm. Great Progress!

Some critical exits man! Looking good.. Now the leveling up is exponential with the double and triple dips

Nice to follow your progress. Nice vid! Why did you use Unifoil and not the Armstrong MA1225 anymore?

I wanted to try another brand and am digging the unifoil stuff at the moment.

@@theliftjournal Thx! I am thinking of the MA1225 for wingfoiling (95 kg). At the moment I'm on the HS1850, too big in stronger winds. Are you unhappy with Armstrong MA1225 in comparismn to Unifoil or could you recomment it?

@@rudiregenwetter I can't really give an opinion on which is better for you to be honest. Reason is I am only prone surfing and not wing foiling at all. I also weight 145 with a winter wetsuit and last but not least I have 5 months experience foiling in general. The reason why I am digging the unifoil gear as per now is because I like the stiffer mast which helps me with surf foiling in pump. I personally feel that Armstrong concentrates more on wing and prone second and uni is the exact opposite. This is just an opinion and not an answer. I have no issues with Armstrong gear and as I said in past episodes am truly stoked on what that equipment got me to do. But going forward I am a UNI guy.
