Great timing that the Momma Moose & Baby showed up! Violet smiling at the end was perfect!
I was a visitor in Alaska, driving a rental car near Girdwood. Out popped a mama moose and baby crossing the road. Only by the grace of God did I manage to miss both. I was very aware it might happen, but still, it caught me by surprise. Thank you for the Q&A!

Yes, summer depression is more common than we think. Normally, people associate seasonal depression with winter, but that's not always the case. My children and grandkids think I'm strange to feel so down in the summertime. As soon as November and the colder months roll around, my mood improves dramatically. I hate heat, bugs, beaches, and the sea. I adore rivers, mountains, lakes, forests, cold, and snow. It's partly why I watch this channel. Alaska is so beautiful with all its snow. I feel at peace when it snows.
Same happens to me. Nice to know I'm not alone.

As someone who has dreamed of traveling through Alaska but will never be able to do so due to health issues, I am so looking forward to seeing Alaska through your eyes as a resident. Hope Violet gets better in the vehicles and can enjoy going on trips with the family a little this summer. Paring back your normal summer plans is to be expected for both your mental health and the family's well-being. Can't wait to see what Mark captures on his trips with the boys.
An Alaskan Planner by an Alaskan would be a wonderful resource. Your cruise last year propelled me to get back in the cruise life. We have been on an Alaska cruise, 20 years ago. We have been on many other cruises as well, but have not cruised since 2020. You documented Princess well and I wanted to try a different cruise line so we booked on Princess for September. Love your videos and your family. Those boys love their baby sister and she is going to grow up feeling so cherished and adored with her own special superheroes!

Can I just say how radiant you are looking and although there has been some sadness (I'm sorry, I don't know how other to type it here and I've been through the same but for you to still get up and carry on the way you do is absolutely remarkable) .. you've an amazing family with a beautiful New Baby to look after, new Adventures and a new outlook on life also. Violet will bring you just as much joy as your boys have. I absolutely adore your family and you've inspired me so very much ❤❤

My grandmother lived in Fairbanks for many many years and I got to go twice while growing up. Once during summer and the other time during winter. I absolutely loved both trips and got to see so much and experience what a lot of people never get to see. Gold rush days was going on during the summer trip. I loved panning for gold. Playing in the oh so cold Chatanika River, picking blueberries on the tundra, visiting the library with the enormous Kodiak bear in the foyer and eating the best pizza still to this day at the Blue Marlin, seeing sled dogs so big their paws when giving me a warm Alaska hello would reach my shoulders, so many memories from years ago (I'm 61 now). I'd recommend seeing this beautiful state if you ever get the chance.

The travel idea is brilliant and I think everyone would enjoy, regardless if we are planning a trip or just getting a better insight into Alaska. ❤ I so agree with you that to get kids off screens is what I always had as a family, and has been carried over by my kids to their families.
Alaska….. we got married in 1977 and Richard’s parents gave us airline tickets to Alaska to meet the rest of the family, who couldn’t come to the wedding. BIL told me it was HOT in Alaska in the summer. They lived in Juneau and I didn’t realize he was a real jokester. I was from the south and packed my summer clothes. We arrived and ai nearly froze to death!
The first flight, to Chicago, was more than a horror on Delta. It was my first flight and from my window, I could see the fuselage and bolts/screws vibrating. 😳🤯 The flight to Seattle was much better, very smooth. The Alaska Airlines flight into Juneau was smooth, but my luggage arrived in Juneau, VERY damaged. 🤬
We had a ball in Alaska, especially since we had private tour guides. Richard’s sister drove tour buses in the summer. We experienced halibut cheeks, (oh my! I asked about them and was told all the fishermen cut them out before selling the halibut.). a lot of salmon , picnics on the beach at midnight, an Alaska Ferry trip up the inside passage to Scagway, picking and eating boysenberries, etc. From Scagway, we had to catch a twin engine flight back to Juneau. I just wasn’t too sure about getting on that little plane, especially after my horrific experience on Delta! Turned out the pilot was wonderful and I did get used to it, after he had flown very low so we could see wildlife, whales, etc. Before we landed he told us he would be leaving the following week to go to work with Delta. 😳 All I could say was “Wow! They really need you!” LOL
We were both trained musicians and even picked up borrowed instruments to march/play in two July 4th parades as the cruise ships docked in Juneau. We stayed with SIL in sight of the Mendenhall Glacier. It was beautiful!

Many years ago my husband and i went on an Alaska cruise for our honeymoon. It was absolutely amazing!! There was a 4 day land portion 1st and we rode the train you were talking about. Highly recommend it!! It's on our bucket list to do it again someday with our kids.

The moose were so amazing. I live in Utah and we were up in the mountains at our sleepover night shed and just sitting out on chairs. and a moose walked right by us stopped and looked at us and then walked on. It was about 10 feet away we just stayed really quiet and still and it was amazing. So it’s awesome that you get to see these things all the time.
It is still always fun when you see a moose, no matter how many times!! I saw a moose in Utah once. It seemed really small compared to Alaska moose.

Lauren, my husband and I are coming to AK for 7 weeks late in July through September. I would love to have a "Local's guide to visiting Alaska." created by you! However, since my trip is coming up soon, I know you can't possibly do that this year. We plan to seek out "off the beaten path" activities as much as possible. We are renting a truck camper so we can do our own thing at our own pace. BTW, it is no one's business about your decision to have/not have more kids. It must be hard to draw the line with regard to privacy when everyone watches/scrutinizes your every move. I do love watching your videos because they give the local perspective on life and family in Alaska. You have been a big help in showing everyday Alaska to me.💜

I was lucky enough to go on an Alaska cruise with a bunch of my cousins. It was quite a few years ago - 2001. But I just Loved it. Violet is really good, looks like she's really holding her little head up good. She is a sweetie when with those smiles!

Sounds like a wonderful summer. Would love to hear more ideas on Visiting Alaska. We started watching your channel because of your cruise last year. It was a couple months before we got to go for the first time. And I took some of your information to guide us. And since then we have completely fallen in Love with your family. We did an Alaska cruise and did the inside passage and it was incredible!!!! Would love to come back. Glacier Bay was my favorite!
😊 Its Morel season. Finally the temps are right, the birch leaves are the size of mouse ears, only need three days of rain for them to pop. These are highly sought after for their earthy nutty taste😊 yum. Easily to identify and easy to make sure these are the rules ' if not hollow do not swollow. Thats it! I find the morels in the burn areas or around the cotton woods at the local parks here in central alaska. Take the morel and cut length wise from tip to bottom and it should be hollow if not then it will have cotton looking center which would be a false morel and throw that out. These grow together and are easy to tell apart. Something the entire family can get out and do together. Sounds like a lot of summer fun ahead for you and the family. The train trip to Denali sounds like something I would like to do. Violet is so big now, very good to see her progress. God Bless❤️

Hi from Australia 🇦🇺. Just got back from an Alaskan cruise. Love your state. Only one day of rain and the rest of time was beautiful. Just wish it was not so far from us. You have such a great organised life but could not stand the cold. 😊 love seeing your young lady as she is growing.
We’re having an early summer her in Florida. Temperatures we have now don’t come till late June. We have humidity for sure! There’s nothing wrong scaling back for the summer. Some videos show people that constantly have to go somewhere and they get boring. It’s fun watching road trips with kids but adult children, not the same. You set your priorities well. I do the Kiwi engineering kits monthly. They are cool and I’m 61 yrs old. Winters can be way too cold for my back. Geez, unlike Mark, all the accounting jobs I had years ago with 3 companies all went under. So I went to work for NYS.

I would say to put together the travel planner if you're feeling drawn to it - I'm going to Alaska this summer and insight from a coworker who grew up in Anchorage (and goes back often) proved exceptionally valuable in making our plans. Not everyone has regular access to a local. Plus, given how far everything is from everything else in Alaska you really have to select activities carefully because each one will literally take an entire day. We're doing the train to Denali and back too! Very excited :).

Do Gold Star when doing the Alaska Railroad. You get the cars with a glass roof for great viewing and a dining car. When we vacationed up here, we always did the Gold Star option when available. I think a vacation guide by an Alaskan resident is a great idea.

Between Ninilchik and Homer is a great Russian village. We found lots of info at the post office/sewing store. We had borscht soup and a wonderful meal at a women's home who makes a living by entertaining, cooking and history. There was a beautiful church. It felt alot like an Amish village.
